Based on current Membership records, there are approximately two hundred fifty active members who are Eurasians and/or whose parents are of Eurasian
descent. This number is clearly not representative of the number of Malaysian Eurasians in Selangor and Federal Territory. We need to further strengthen
our Association through membership and participation to meet the objective of SAFTEA which is to preserve and promote the moral, cultural, social,
physical and intellectual interests and development of all Malaysian Eurasians through education, social and community service, and sporting activities.
SAFTEA strongly urges Eurasian youths to register with the Association in order to build the next generation of leaders and expand the youth programmes
in SAFTEA. Young adults, below twenty five years of age and who are students, register for FREE!

Members Say AYE to Build-Our-Own Bangunan SAFTEA!
93RD ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
31 July 2016
Member turnout at this once-a-year meeting was overwhelming given that the Special Business agenda
elaborated on the Bangsar Utama land. Sheila De Costa, who is not only SAFTEAs President but also the
Chairman of the Building and Development Committee, presented members with 2 options for development
of the land.
The options presented were:
Option 1 To develop the land and build on our own
Option 2 To enter into a joint venture with a developer
It was an unanimous decision by members to pursue Option 1.
At both these EGM meetings, members were updated on the Bangsar Utama land project on Lot 348, Jalan
Bangsar Utama 8, Bangsar Utama, 59000 Kuala Lumpur.
During the 11 June 2017 EGM, members were enlightened on the history/chronological order of how the
Association lost the land in Jalan Pudu up till the time to winning the piece of land in Bangsar Utama.
Correspondences between various parties dating back to 1933 were presented at the EGM.
Members were presented with preliminary plans on the building concept and were informed of funds required
for development. The group of renowned individuals in the local real estate industry who are advising the

SAFTEAs Annual High Achievers Awards Presentation for 2016 was held on 28 August in conjunction with the
Sunday Family Curry Lunch at The Eurasian Club@Duta Vista Executive Suites.
Datuk Nick Peterson, Chairman of the Education Committee and Sheila De Costa, President of SAFTEA presented the awards to the recipients at the event.
The SAFTEA Education Fund is administered by Chairman and Fundraising Coordinator, Datuk Nick Peterson, along with his committee members Mr. Leslie
Armstrong, Ms. Vivienne Edmonds, Mr. Stewart Edmonds and Ms. Jean Monteiro.
One of the Objectives of the Association, as specified in the Rules and By Laws, is to preserve and promote the well being of the Malaysian Eurasians
through education, social and community service, and sporting activities.
SAFTEAs Education Fund was started in 1960 to assist the children of Ordinary Members of the Association, who had the ability to continue their studies
but were hindered by the lack of funds due to unfortunate circumstances.
The fund was dormant for a while and was reactivated in 1999. The High Achievers Awards was introduced in 2007 to reward students who excelled at the
STPM, SPM, PT3 and UPSR Examinations and is organised annually.

Sunday Curry Lunches 2016
The Sunday Curry Lunches held on the last Sunday of most
months is a staple of SAFTEA. This monthly fundraising event
sees an average of seventy paying guests coming together to
spend the afternoon and evening catching up with family and
friends over a generous, well-planned lunch buffet and high tea
delights. Lucky Draws are also organised which help to support
the revenue stream of SAFTEA.
At a mere RM40 per pax, it is simply a bargain these days to spend almost the whole
day feasting and being entertained to live music performances.
The ever popular Winds of Change (William Anthony and Eric Bastian) and Finian
Lowe have been the regular favourites. Their music selection has always been a
crowd pleaser.
Eurasian staples such as Devil Curry, Western fare with roast lamb and chicken curry
are mostly featured at the Curry Lunches. Local Chinese fare and noodles are also
served. High-tea sees an assortment of cakes, pastries and other delights, where
some are even home-made by our members.
The main objective of these lunches are to foster and strengthen ties between
members. We are also honoured to host members from our sister Eurasian
Associations from other states, who do patronise our Curry Lunches as well.
A big THANK YOU goes out to everyone who has patronised and contributed
generously for Lucky Draw prizes and donations to ensure the Curry Lunches maintain
its quality offerings.
Come join and support our functions. While your presence is greatly appreciated, we
ensure a thoroughly enjoyable day!

Curry Lunch. The crowd was entertained by a talented Rock Band
and the entry fee of RM50 included 1 drink, food & live music. The
event, a JV between the operator, Arnold Monteiro & SAFTEA saw a
commendable turnout. One of the members even took the opportunity
to commemorate a family members birthday as well that night.
Happy Birthday to you!

various other mix-media mediums she has worked with over
the decades. A dedication which spans thirty years.
Art lovers came from as far as Singapore to revel in Tiannes outstanding exhibition.

charmed the judges with her powerful vocals and impressive stage
