Editable Polygons 3D Modelling

Starter
When you see the Weebly
logo create a blog entry and
answer the following
questions in as much detail
as possible

1. Using all of the techniques covered

in last weeks session including;
move, rotate, scale and boolean
select appropriate standard
primitives and construct a chair as
closely matching the provided
reference image as possible. YOU
ONLY HAVE 15 MINUTES TO
COMPLETE THIS SO WORK
RAPIDLY

2. Save a white render of your final

model to Weebly together with the
original image taken from this
PowerPoint document on estudy.

3 AXIS Explained

VERTEX>POLGON>MESH
A vertex appears as a dot but is really just a mathematical location in a 3D space defined by three
numbers or the X,Y,Z location.

Session Objectives
Recall previous standard primitive manipulation
techniques to produce a given asset

Modify standard primitives in order to generate new

objects using editable polygons

Apply a range of techniques including extrude, inset and

slice planes to convert a Standard primitive into a new form

Produce models using this Box Modelling method

Use symmetry to reduce the workflow and improve model

accuracy

How to convert to
editable polygon
mode
1. With a primitive selected right click>
convert to> convert to editable poly

2. In this mode you can select a

number of options to manipulate the
form

3. This process known as box

modelling is commonly used in
gaming to rapidly model shapes

How to convert to
editable polygon
mode
1. Create interesting forms
experimenting with the modifier
upload a range of images to Weebly
2. Include reflective commentary
explaining the sorts of tools used to
create the forms and evaluate them
in terms of the final aesthetic

Symmetry

What is symmetry?

Editable Polygons 3D Modelling

Modify Panel

1. This is where you will find many

other ways to manipulate shapes

2. All options are listed alphabetically

3. Symmetry is listed here

4. Select it and then edit the point at

which it mirrors the object

5. This can be turned on or off to make

life easier during the modelling
process

Primitive Shapes

1. Using the skills you have acquired

with editable polygons. Construct a
space ship

2. Upload screen shots of its

development to Weebly and add
analytical commentary about its
progress
