2.0 Instructions for Crane Operation
2.1 General instructions
The crane driver must be certain that the values for load and radius which are given in the load
capacity table are in no way exceeded.
The loads are given in metric tons.
The radius of the crane is measured from the slewing centre.
The capacity charts also include capacities for horizontal boom position. Thereby, the angle of
main boom head has to be not less than 2 degrees. Attention: For main boom angels lower than 10
degrees, only an even number of rope lines is permissible.
Two hook operation is not monitored by the load limit device.Two hook operation can lead to
overloading and tipping of the crane.
Before operations are commenced, the load limit device must be set to the current configuration of
the crane.
When the crane is supported on outriggers, all wheels must be lifted from the ground completely.
Only the values given in the capacity chart are permissible for the outrigger support area.
The loads apply to the crane when it is supported on outriggers in a horizontal position. Before
commencing work, position the crane horizontally and monitor constantly during operation.
Even without load, the boom may only be moved within the areas for which load values are
specified.
The supporting surface shall be sufficiently firm
max. outrigger load: front 422 kN (43 t)
rear: 598 kN (61 t)
All capacities are valid for pinned telescopes.

2.2 Free on wheels lifts, travelling with loads

Before starting operation the suspension cylinders on all axles must be fully retracted. This position
shall not be modified!
The crane may travel only with superstructure position 0 to the rear.
Prior to travelling with loads, the outrigger beams must be extended while the crane is in unloaded
condition, and the outrigger pads be lowered close to the ground.
The load has to be taken up with the superstructure position 0 as stated.
The load and outrigger pads must be clear of ground while travelling.
Be sure the surface is level, firm, and stable to support the weight of the machine and its load prior
to travelling.
Set the slewing brake before travelling.
Slewing the superstructure out of this position is prohibited!
Keep the load close to the ground.
The load forces in the load capacity table must not be exceeded, even when there is no obvious
danger of the crane overturning (observe permissible tyre and axle loading).
The load must not be allowed to swing when the crane is driven. If necessary secure with rope.
Maximum speed 2 km/h (walking speed)

2.3 Temperature operating limits

Following the instructions given in the operating or lubrication and maintenance instructions, the
crane can be operated at ambient temperatures of between -20 C and + 40 C.

4.2 Min. no. of hoist lines

In case there are no different instructions, the no. of hoist lines given in the capacity chart must not be
lower than 2. Nevertheless, if the situation requires a no. of hoist lines of 1, the capacities given in the
capacity chart will have to be reduced by 20 per cent; this also applies to capacities lower than the
maximum single line pull of 6,8 t!

5.0 Wind speeds
5.1 Crane in wind, with load
max. permissible wind speed: 9.8 m/s
5.2 Crane in wind, without load
see operation manual
5.3 Wind speeds - dynamic wind pressures (calculation)
The wind causes to blown areas a dynamic wind pressure q. This dynamic wind pressure is calculated by:
q = v / 1,6 v = wind speed [m/s]
q = dynamic wind pressure [N/m]
also see diagram on this.
The permissible dynamic wind pressure can be calculated into a wind speed by converting the
formula: v = q 1,6
Attention! The gust speed acting in the maximum height is measured by the anemometer of
the crane. This gust speed must not exceed the permissble wind speed for the crane
in operation.
The resulting wind force Fw on the load is then calculated by :
Fw = cw q A A = wind area of the load [m]
cw = drag coefficient
Attention! The drag coefficient cw is not a constant. The loads can also have differing cw values!
aerodynamical coefficients can be taken from e. g. DIN 1055 / part 4.
Provided that there are no different instructions given, the following asssumptions will be taken into
account for calculating the capacities
wind speed v = 9,8 m/s
dynamic wind pressure q = 9,8 / 1,6 = 60 N/m
wind area of the load A = 1,0 m per ton of capacity, but at least 2 m
drag coefficient cw = 1,2

Example 1: Capacity = 40 t A = 40 m, cw = 1,2

The wind force on the load taken into account is then calculated by:
Fw = cw q A = 1,2 60 40,0 = 2880 N
Attention! Major wind areas of the load or higher cw values endanger the safety of the
crane. In this case, reduce the permissible wind speed according to the following
examples. Please contact the manufacturer in special cases!

Example 2: Capacity= 40 t determined wind area of the load A = 40 m, cw = 1,2

wind force on the load = 2880 N bei v = 9,8 m/s (see example 1).
If the existing wind area of the load is 150 m and cw = 1,4, the permissible dynamic
wind pressure will be calculated by converting the formula for Fw :
zul q = Fw / (cw, vorh A vorh) = 2880 / (1,4 150) = 13,7 N/m
The permissible wind speed is then:
zul v = zul q 1,6 zul v = 13,7 1,6 = 4,7 m/s

Notes on Crane Operation according to
EN 13000 / ISO 4301, Crane Group A1
Example 3: Simplifying, you can reduce the permissible wind speed by means of the following
formula:
cw v 2 A 1,2 9,82 40
zul v = = = 4,7 m/s
c w, vorh A vorh 1,4 150

Attention! If the lifted load is less than the capacity, this load must be used in the wind speed
calculation.
Example 4: Lifted load = 30 t determined wind area A = 30 m, cw = 1,2
existing wind area A = 150 m, cw = 1,4

cw v 2 A 1,2 9,82 30
zul v = = = 4,1 m/s
c w, vorh A vorh 1,4 150

6.0 Interpolation of capacities for intermediate radii

The cranes capacity on a radius between two values given by the capacity chart can be calculated
according to the following formula.

P = P1 (R R1) * (P1 P2) / (R2 R1)

R = intermediate radius
P = capacity at intermediate radius
R1 = next radius in the chart before the intermediate radius
P1 = capacity in the chart at radius R1
R2 = next radius in the chart after the intermediate radius
P2 = capacity in the chart at radius R2
