WALMART THE HIGH COST OF LOW PRICE

PART 1 How Walmart Destroys Communities

Lee Scott CEO of Walmart stores incorporated

We had record sales, earnings, and reinvestments back to our company. Walmart stores incorporated has generated
fear if not envy ins some circles. We should focus on doing the right thing and doing thing right everytime.
2 things that we should do:

- Tell the Walmart story Get the message out there

- Stay the course. Walmart is important to indiv families who are stretching the budget, etc

This company is going to continue to grow.

H and H started in 1962 and was worked very hard on by everyone in the family to be built at para lumago

The community relied on H and H for many things. But then, Walmart happened.

The mass merchandisers dont in any way provide excellence in service. Walmart is an example, kung meron mang
marunong ng plumbing sa plumbing section nila lucky ka.

One customer: was against the Walmart movement. Don Hunter never liked their (Walmart) principles. He has seen
many communities crucified and forced out, maw and paw operations closed out just because of one entity (walmart).
FREE ENTERPRISE is great but, the people who own the company are the richest people in the world.

America and Walmart dont go together daw because its like a Chinese company with American boardmembers. The
government should have more control. Walmart is a monopoly. America should remain free but regulations should be
established. Walmart seems to be going on a rampage through the American economy and nobody seems to care. There
are things going on within this country particularly in an economic standpoint that arent for the good of the people.
Segment of the people is doing well but the majority isnt.

We have people in this town, familys who cant feed their children and their life in a car / trailer because they have
been evicted from their homes because they cant find work. Any community on a grand opening is going to see change:
dropping sales.

After 43 years, H and H hardware is closing.

You cant buy small town quality of life in a walmart cause they dont sell it but once they steal it from you, you cant get
it back from them at any price.

Walmart Drives Down Retail Wages 3 billion dollars every year

WALMART IS CRUSHING COMPETITORS AKA COMMUNITIES.

PART 2: How Walmart Profits from Proverty (And Sticks Taxpayers with the bill)

CEO: The number one thing in this company is our associates and weve got stores that arent treating associates as
well as they should be treated

Diane Del- Walmart Employee for 6 years. When she started working there, she had so much pride in her job. She didnt
mind that they were short staffed without knowing that this was really their intention.

Always having to stay late.

The company company doesnt allow the stores enough payroll dollars on their budget to get this job done and the job
is enormous. This company is rowing in the line, raking in the dough in sales. Jon Lehmann, Walmart store manager
They dont care about what you sacrifice, it doesnt matter how many people lose their families. It doesnt matter if the
associates have good health care, anything doesnt matter but what the bottomline profit is for that store that month.

It makes it really difficult to have a good family life at Walmart

If you can squeeze every dime of out of them, you go for it. And it doesnt matter what happens to their families. If they
fall apart, they get sick, The hell with them.

Impossible to pay bills, daycare, etc and work. Walmart insurance- isnt affordable. Theyre a billion dollar corporation so
it doesnt make any sense whay they cant offer a better medical package for their associates.

They had full time employees that worked at Walmart, And they had medical. But the medical was so high, so they had
to go out and Medi cal, some type of govnt program.

Walmart is promoting the people to go to Healthy Kids, and to get food stamps and section 8 housing. Theyre the ones
using the system.

Walmart costs state taxpayers 86 million dollars a year, while county taxpayers up to 25 million dollars more to pick up
the tab for public health care, income tax credits, housing subsidies, food stamps.

Employees cant afford the companys health care benefits thats why they turn to government assistance

Who is going to take care of their health care needs? The personnel manager said let the state do it.

Employees dignity is not there, pride not there, they go to work knowing that they are not making enough money to
make ends meet but they had to go fake a smile.

Walmart workers on public assistance: ALABAMA: 3684 children of walmart employees are enrolled in Medicaid.
Arizona: 2700 walmart workers on Medicaid. Arkansa, 3971 walmart workers on public assistance. Connecticut: 824
walmart workers have children in a state health care program. Florida: 12300 walmart workers and their dependents on
Medicaid. Georgia: 10 261 children of walmart employees are enrolled in peachcare for kids etc.

WALMART COSTS TAXPAYERS 1,557,000,000 dollars to support its employees.

LUOY KAAYO ANG MGA EMPLOYEES

PART 3: HOW WALMART ROLLS BACK WORKERS RIGHTS

Employees at Walmart: a lot of jobs at the same time (running the cash register, ringing people out for groceries etc)

In walmart, there is only one 4 percent raise per year without good health benefits. Employees cant afford to live by
themselves anymore and most of it is due to poor treatment from management at walmart.

Walmart is very opposed to unions, one of the most anti if not the most aggressively anti union in the history of the US.

Managers make the employees life miserable, they put up illegal surveillance, they put up cameras in work stations,
work areas, and break rooms.

One of their favourite tactics: we have to freeze all our raises in the store because we cant appear to be bribing
anybody.

Theyll instruct managers to start hiring associates in the store. And what they do this for is to try to dissolve the
percentages of the people in the store that are for the union.

When theres a campaign, everything is done to keep the union out:

- 7000 dollars for anti union camera package per store

- 30 000 dollars undercover spy van per store
- 100 000 24 hour anti union hotline
- 7 000 000 dollars rapid response team with corporate Jet

In other countries, If walmart says were all a big family and we have nothing to hide, then I dont understand why the
colleagues in America cant have a workers council, cant establish a union.

PART 4: HOW WALMART STEALS WAGES AND DISCRIMINATES

Do more with less They want the associates to do more and they are going to pay them less.

Employees are asked to work off the clock with the implication that if they dont work off the clock, that is what is
expected at this particular store, they are going to lose their job, and they do it as a matter of survival.

The company has cheated employees out of hundreds of millions of dollars in overtime pay.

According to CEO policy is that we pay everyone for every hour worked. WEH.

Managers cheat the associates working hours. If someone worked at 41 42 hours, they changed it to 40.

They needed that extra hour. =( Walmart refuses to follow the very American ethic that to serve the country well over
many years, people should be paid for the work they do.

Walmart faced lawsuits in 31 different states for wage and hour abuses. Potentially involving hundreds and thousands of
workers.

As a managers, you are responsible to reduce your expenses every single month. And the only way to do that is to keep
the associate numbers down.

Walmart paid 11 million dollars to settle federal allegations it used illegal immigrants to clean its stores.

Walmart discriminates women in their stores. Bottomline, if you were a female you just werent worth it. You werent
worth the time, money, effort, nothing.

Manager to female employee: There is no place for people like you in management.

Walmart also discriminates in the context of races. If you complain about discrimination, they would get more people to
try and work you out of there or whatever.

PART 5: WALMART: CORPORATE WELFARE QUEEN

Before: IGA store: fulltime employees had full coverage insurance, 401k pension plans

In other words, before employees were loved.

In the mid 90s Walmart was given subsidy, family businesses were threatened.

It isnt fair for walmart to come in with all the funding from the government to put their sewers, roads, parking signals,
grass etc in compared to what the independent retailer gets. It isnt fair to help them to build roads for their business
and at the same time when they open other businesses are closed down. Everyone knows it was unfair but no once can
do anything about it.

40 years of hard work was closed. =(

Walmart subsidy in Brookfield: 300 000 dollars

Cameron: 2.1 million dollars

Nationwide: 1.008 billion dollars

While esrys family subsidy: 0 dollars

Due to the subsidies given to walmart a lot were closed down including 3 schools in Denver by which the 1.7 million
dollars given as subsidy could have sustained the schools.

Cathedral City made a 1.8 million dollar investment but because of Walmarts lies and not stepping up to the plate with
their commitments, theyre short on policemen, firemen, eliminated the recreation division of the city. The residents
were not provided with the services they deserve.

The subsidies have affected the community: schools, services, etc. The budget for these needs have been cut due to the
subsidies given to walmart.

Currently in the US there are 26,699578 sq feet of empty walmarts. Enough room to build 29, 666 classrooms and
educate 593,326 kids.

PART 6: How Walmart contaminates drinking water

An investigation: 7 walmarts in the Catawba river valley to see their envi. Practices and judge whether their current
environmental practices would have an impact on the drinking water of the town of Belmont. And in every single case,
Walmart had a practice of storing herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers in the parking lots. What concerned them about
this case is the proximity of this walmart and the creek running right by the walmart site and that creek empties right
here at the intake site.

These pallets with bags and bags of this material, many of them broke and busted and spilling on the pavement, when it
rained, the material was washing right into storm water and eventually to the Catawba river, source of drinking water
for almost 2 million people in the region. (violating storage laws)

However, when expressing their concern, no one from the corporate Walmart was giving them answers.

Walmart had a lack of corporate response and they had apparent disregard for these consent decree and they had not
taken them seriously.

1991: All new Walmart construction halted in state of Pennsylvania due to environmental violations.

2001: EPA orders Wal mart to pay 1 million dollar fine for clean water violations in texas, Oklahoma and Massachusetts

2004: Wal mart fined 3.1 million by EPA, the larges ever for are retailer for Clean Water Act violations in Texas, Colorado,
California, Delaware, Michigan, South Dakota, New Jersey, Tennessee, and Utah

2005: Connecticut EPA orders walmart to pay 1.15 million dollars for Clean Water Act violations in 22 stores

PART 7: Life at a Walmart Sweatshop

CHINA: Magjowa <3 haha Wendy and Wen Yi

Walmart factory: night shift and morning shift

Night shift: finish at 7 am

Morning shift: 7:30 am overtime 10 pm

They had little time to spend together

Meals offered by the factory were really disgusting. However the dilemma is whether you live in the dorms at the
factory allocated or not, they always deduct the rent from the wages. You have no choice but to live inside. If youre
going to move out, the factory will tell you you can move out and well not charge you electricity and water but rent is
still charged. Inside the dorm, not only the rent is paid for but also the utilities, which is charged by how much you use.
Very few fans in the workshop thus it is very hot, and no wind at all.

Walmart informed the factory that it was going to send people here for inspection and, they told them how to lie for the
inspection: workers must respond that they work for 6 days when they were asked even though they worked for 7 days.
Workers dont dare to say anything wrong cause they are afraid of being punished. Walmart informs the workers in
advance and a meeting is held to teach them how to lie. If you lie well, youll be rewarded, if not youll be punished or
fired. The worker is given a fake pay slip, and they never let you have the chance to speak out the truth but threaten you
to deliver false information.

Workers worked day and night to get the wage of less than 3 dollars a day.

Cost for Walmart factory worker to assemble: 0.18 dollars

Retail cost at Walmart: 14.96 dollars

2004: Walmart imported 18 billion dollars from China

BANGLADESH

189 000 young women in Bangladesh sew garments for Walmart. They wake up at 5:30 in the morning, brush their teeth
with their finger using ashes from the fire because they cant afford toothbrush. Forced to work from 8 am to 10 pm 14
hours per day, seven days a week on wages from 13 to 17 cents an hour. They are hit by their supervisors, trapped in
utter mystery as the largest company in the world, Walmart sets the standard that other companies are going to
follow. So Walmart right now is sucking down standards all across the world. These are workers who have NO RIGHTS.

Everyone was deceived by how Walmart reported things.

The system was designed to keep the goods flowing to the US. When push came to shove, they did not stand up and do
the right thing. What was happening was that they were getting fired for telling the truth about the factory
certifications. And that was shocking. Employees were trying to look out for Walmart for years.

PART 8: The Greed of the Walton Family

Lee Scott earnings for 2005: 27, 207, 799 dollars

Average Wal Mart hourly sales employee earnings: 13, 861 dollars

Five members of the Walton Family combined are worth more than 102 billion dollars.

Helen Walton 13 billion

Alice Walton 18 billion

John Walton- 18.2 billion

Rob Walton 18.3 billion

Jim Walton 18.3 billion

The widow and four children in the last 20 years have emerged on the list of the top 10 wealthiest people in the United
States. They could have taken 10 billion each and see to it that every employee of Walmart in teh US has health care,
adequate pension, and adequate wages.

Cost of walmart jet fleet: 125, 350, 000 dollars.

Walmart after the 9 -11 attacks on the World Trade Centre and Pentagon, they apparently decided that they needed to
have a bunker. There is a facility for the Walton family in case of an apocalyptic attack a residence that they can live in
and reside in, in case they had to do that. Theres a helipad, where they can come in by helicopter and theres satellite
dishes behind the facility. And most of it is underground.

The Walton family has given less than 1% of their wealth to charity

Bill Gates has given 58%

The Walton Family made 3.2 million dollars in Political contributions in 2004

A walmart worker may donate money from their paycheck to the critical need fund, a program to aid other employees in
times of crisis like a fire or tornado.

2004: Walmart employees gave over 5 million dollars to help fellow workers

The Walton family gave 6000 dollars.

The Walton Family received a federal tax cut of 91,500 dollars per hour in the 2004 tax year

PART 9 Danger in Walmarts Parking Lot

Customers arent safe in Walmarts Parking Lot: rape, attacks, kidnapping, gunshot, etc.

Laura Tanaka attacked at the parking lot

Insid the store there are more than 200 security cameras and 4 security guards on patrol. Outside, there was nothing.
The police recommended on site security but there was none. They assured the community that they would provide
security and make sure it was safe for the neighbourhood but it was not.

Majority of the crimes in the state occurred in their parking lot but they did nothing to protect the customers.

Walmart study showed that 80% of crime at Walmart locations occurred in parking lot but when they added roving
patrol in several sites, the rate dropped to almost zero.

Walmart did not disclose that it had conducted a safety study a study that found if Walmart put employees in golf
carts patrolling its parking lots, crime there would drop to zero.

Unfortunately for the customer, they dont care what goes on after you spend your money in there and come out into
the parking lot to go home.

Walmart focuses on protecting their property and not their patrons. If people are putting profits before safety, theyre
putting profits before human life.

PART 10 TAKING CONTROL

No Walmart in our neighbourhood

We have the power to make sure that all have what they need

The lesson that we learned in Inglewood was that we have the ability through our democracy to take power and take
control: to make the companies responsible

People from different neighbourhoods took action. =) They opposed building a Walmart super centre on site
(Inglewood)

Walmart represents plantation capitalism.

A lot of people sacrificed an awful lot to have the freedoms that we have. And that flag to me represents all of our
freedoms; our freedom to fight Walmart, our freedom to live where we want to, work where we want to, have a say in
our government.

They won yay. Haha

Inglewood California, Monroeville Pennsylvania, Cobb County Georgia, Hickory North Carolina, Helotes Texas, Biloxi
Mississippi, Thornton Colorado, Sanford Maine, Plainfield Illinois, Las Vegas Nevada, Lakeway Texas, Hayden Idaho,
Colchester Connecticut, Centerville Utah, Harrison New Jersey, and a lot of others rejected Walmart (VICTORY)
