Subject: Design Parameters Ventilation System

The building basement parking, toilets, utility rooms such as pump, electrical and
elevator machine rooms shall be properly ventilated with suitable exhaust blowers/fans as
required.

Design Criteria:
a. Toilets - 10 l/s per sq. m (1.97 CFM/sq. ft)
b. Basement Parking 8 air changes per hour
c. Utility Rooms 25 air changes per hour

Ductworks for the basement ventilation shall be of plain G.I. sheets and with
gages as per SMACNA standards. Ducts shall be machine fabricated either TDC or
Fabriduct.

Fans and Blowers shall be products of refutable manufacturers and with service
back-up locally. They shall be capable of supplying/discharging the correct amount of air
as required. Fans/blowers shall be provided with suitable vibration isolators as per
manufacturer's recommendations.

AIR-CONDITIONING AND VENTILATING SYSTEMS DESIGN CRITERIA

1.0 AIRCONDITIONING SYSTEM


1.1 Outside Conditions: 35 deg C dry bulb & 27.8 deg wet bulb (95F db/82D wb)
1.2 Inside Conditions: 23.8 deg C dry bulb +/- 1 deg C & (75F db +/- 2F)
55 % relative humidity +/- 10% RH
1.3 Load Densities for Cooling Calculations.
1.3.1 Occupancies:
a. Canteen: 1.30 m2/person (14 ft2/person)

1.4 Description of System:

a. The Building shall be air-conditioned using direct expansion, split type


air-conditioning units.
b. The Ground, Second, and Third floors shall use air handling units (AHU).
An air distribution ductwork system shall be connected to each AHU to
distribute conditioned air within the rooms. The matching air-cooled
condensing units (ACCU) of the Ground and Second floor AHUs shall be
located at the ledge of the Building in the Second floor, while the ACCUs
of the Third floor AHU shall be located at the Third floor ledge.
c. The Fourth, Fifth and Sixth floors shall use a combination of AHUs and
free-blow fan coil units (FCU). An air distribution ductwork system
shall be connected to each AHU to distribute conditioned air within the
rooms. The matching ACCU of the Fourth floor FCUs shall be located at
the ledge of the Building in the Fourth floor, while the ACCUs of the Fifth
and Sixth floor AHUs and FCUs shall be located at the Fourth floor ledge
and at the Roof Deck.

2.0 VENTILATION SYSTEM

2.1 Toilets: 35 m3/hr per m2 (2 CFM/ft2) (If adjacent to air conditioned area,
will be transferred from room air and would be taken from
conditioned air supply duct. (50 m3/hr per m2 (3CF/ft2) if no
conditioned air is available.
2.2 Kitchen: 35 m3/hr per m2 (2CFM/ft2) of kitchen space or as indicated in the
kitchen equipment layout. (If kitchen consultant would require air-
conditioning for this area. They will be designed to be maintained
at 27deg +/- 2 deg C (81F +/-4F) and 60% +/- 10% RH
2.3 Elevator Machine Rooms: 40 air changes per hour or as required by the
elevator supplier.
2.4 Storage Rooms 10 air changes per hour.
2.5 Electrical Rooms 5.2 m3/hr (3CFM) per KVA minimum or ventilation that
would not exceed 5.56 deg C (42F) rise in room based on supply
of 35 deg C (95F) ambient or as required by the Electrical trade.
2.6 Sewage Treatment Plant: 60 air changes per hour or as required by the STP
equipment supplier.
2.7 Description of System:
a. Mechanical ventilating system shall be provided for the Toilets, Machine
rooms, Transformer and other utility and active storage rooms of the
Building.
b. All fire stairwells at the read of the building shall each be provided with a
pressurization blower that shall automatically start in case of fire.

1.0 EQUIPMENT:
a. Air-cooled condensing units shall be furnished factory assembled, tested and
piped complete with compressor, condenser coils, fans, motors, integrity wired
control panel, starters, spring type vibration isolators, steel bars, and refrigerant
control accessories. Units shall have heavy gauge corrosion protected
weatherproof casing.
b. Air handling units shall have extended surface cooling coils, draw thru
arrangement with filter and mixing box sections.
c. Fan coil units shall be suitable for ceiling mounting, free-blow type complete
with cooling coils, air filters, fan section and remotely control package.
d. Kitchen exhaust fans shall be centrifugal type with backward curve blades, SISW
with outboard V-belt drive and motor assembly.
e. Exhaust fans, such as those for toilet exhaust and utility rooms shall be of the
centrifugal type with forward curve blade and shall be of the cabinet type
configuration or floor mounted type.

2.0 DUCTWORK
2.1 Air duct sizing
a. Main air-conditioning ducts shall be designed based on air velocities not
exceeding the following:
Supply --- 1500 FPM
Return --- 1200 FPM
b. Main exhaust duct and ventilation supply ducts ---- 1800 FPM
c. Kitchen exhaust ducts
Main --- 2000 FPM
Branches --- 1800 FPM
2.2 Duct Material
a. Air-conditioning and ventilation ducts shall be made of galvanized steel
sheets, low velocity construction, conforming to ASHRAE and SMACNA
standards.
b. Air-conditioning ducts shall be insulated with fiberglass, 32 kg/m3 density
and with integral reinforced aluminum vapor barrier on one side.
Insulation thickness shall be determined based on preventing outside
surface condensation but in no case shall be less than 25 mm.
c. Kitchen exhaust ducts shall entirely be constructed of Ga. 16 stainless
steel sheets with welded joints and then insulated with 50 mm thick high
temperature fiberglass.

3.0 PIPING

3.1 Refrigerant Piping Piping shall be type L hard drawn seamless copper,
suitable for a working pressure of 2413 kPa. Fittings shall be wrought copper
or brass designed for use with high temperature solder and suitable for
working pressure of not less than 2413 kPa. Joints from soldered to threaded
joins shall be made with standard adapter fitting using high temperature
solder.
3.2 Condensate Drain Piping Piping shall be galvanized iron Sch. 40 and sized
to liberally dispose of the condensate to the nearest floor drain. A P-trap with
a clean-out plugs shall be provided at the outlet for each drain pan.
3.3 Insulation Piping insulation shall be applied on all refrigerant suction and
condensate drain lines. Insulation material shall be flexible elastomeric pipe
insulation 25 mm thick. Joints shall be sealed with appropriate contact
adhesive. Insulation installed outdoors shall be provided with a weather
resistance protective finish and aluminum cladding.
3.4 Refrigerant Valves Shall be installed in the suction and discharge lines
adjacent to the compressor and on the liquid line discharge side of the
condenser. The valves shall be wrought copper or brass for use with R-22 and
suitable for a working pressure of 2413 kPa. Each fan coil or air handling unit
shall be provided with a thermostatic expansion valves, solenoid valves (for
units with capacity above 26,370 watts0 dehydrators and sight glasses.
4.0 CONTROLS
a. Operation of the air condition system shall be fully automatic. They shall be
capable of maintaining a full or partial loads Inside conditions of 24 deg C dry
bulb (+/- 1 deg C and 55% RH +/_ 5% RH. Room thermostat shall control the
operation of the compressor through relays.
b. The controls shall be wired in such a way that whenever a condensing unit is in
operation the fan coil unit or air handling is also in operation.
c. The compressor crankcase heater must be of such capacity as to provide sufficient
heat to the oil in the crankcase during inoperative periods so that serious oil
foaming and slogging shall be prevented. The heater must be automatically
energized whenever compressor operation stops and de-energized when the
compressor starts.
