Okay, this one took me a while to figur e out, but nonetheless I found it and will shar e
it.
In or der to tur n off or disable the MySite or MyLinks functionality you need to be an
Shar epoint administr ator .
Select the gr oup you want to limit the functionality for . Mor e than likely you will just
have NTAuthor ity\Authenticated User s.
Once you find it, disabling the functionality is pr etty easy, but if you ar e new to 2007
like I am it will take a while to find. Hopefully this will save you a few cycles.

Thank y ou for y our feedback.
H mmm. It is unfortunate that the permission screen doesn't make this dependency more clear. I
guess w ith that being the case, I am not sure y ou can use the M y Links functionality .
I guess in some w ay s it makes sense, but others it is a bummer that they are so closely linked.
A lso y ou hav e to select how the url w ill be determined w hen the user first creates the site. F or
example if it w ill contain the /domain_username/ or just the /username/ in the url path.
I hav e display ed the "M y site", "M y Links", "w elcome message" and help in my site. But w hen
other users try to v iew the site, they are not able to v iew these links in the w ebsite. What could
be the problem ?
I ev en tried giv ing full control to the w ebsite to those users, still they are not able to see these
links.
Thanks

In order to see if the other users should hav e access to those links, go to the personalization

It seems that ev ery thing that y ou do in S hareP oint is accessable by the O bject M odel.

A s I mentioned abov e, M y S ites and M y Links hav e been disabled…this w orks fine. H ow ev er, the
option still exists for users to 'A dd Links' ev en though M y Links has been turned off. We hav e
about 7 or 8 different groups/users w ithin P ersonalization S erv ices P ermissions (w e require a few
people to hav e M y S ites/Links but most people w on't). But it seems because a few people hav e

appeared in P ersonalization S erv ices P ermissions w ould get to see the 'A dd Links' link.

S o ev en if y ou don't allow them to create M y S ites or v iew a M y S ite, if they hav e access to
other areas of S hareP oint then y ou w ill still hav e to purchase a license for them.
To answ er y ou question more directly , I am not positiv e that y ou w ould be able to do this.
We license our users of S hareP oint, how ev er w e can control w ho has access. If w e allow those
licensed users to create M y S ites, w e w ould w ant to prev ent those users from inv iting
non-licensed users to participate in M y S ites (the public area), as this w ould require that w e
license the inv ited participants. M y question is technical - w e can limit w ho can create M y S ites,
but can w e limit w ho can be inv ited to participate in someone else's M y S ite? 10/7/2008 12:29

In the JS y ou can see M S failed to w rap the code that inserts this in any ty pe of if statement tied
to permissions so it display s for ev ery one.
I just comment out the lines. O pen the js file (back it up first) and do a search on "A dd to M y
Links". This edit needs to be made on ev ery single WF E . A lso, because y ou are modify ing a
M O S S core file, y ou cannot be guaranteed that the next patch w ill not ov erw rite y our change.
A lso, this is a G LO BA L change. If y ou remov e it, nobody reciev ing content from the WF E s y ou
modify w ill ev er get the link.

to be honest, the article about the w ay to disable the my site and my link on the M O S S truly
helps me in dev eloping my site. I hav e my M O S S site hosted at A S P H ostP ortal
(http://w w w .asphostportal.com/Window s-M O S S -H osting-P lans.aspx) and initially , I alw ay s hav e
a problem of broken link and after I remov ed these links, ev ery thing is smoother and I get more
v isitors.
With M y S ites, there is a link from their my site to the profile edit page.
The profile edit apge actually liv es on the my site host, and doesn't require the user to hav e a
my site to use -- if they ty pe in the url manually they can get to it, eg,
my sites.w hatev er/person.aspx?account=john.doe
