CMU GRADUATE PROGRAM IN PHYSICAL THERAPY

ENTRY INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

ADVISEES NAME: Mara Gosen DATE OF INTERVIEW:6/27/17

ADVISOR/INTERVIEWER: Dr. Sansom

1. ANYTHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF?

During my undergraduate experience at Central, I was involved in Greek Life, the Pre- PT club, went on
an alterative break, and studied abroad in Italy.

2. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A PT? WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE PROFESSION?

I wanted to have a hand on profession that I could build relationships through. I always knew I wanted
to have a career in the heath field because I wanted to help people be at their full potential of health. But what
really drew me into Physical Therapy was the fact that I get to see my own progress with helping an individual
become back to their normal state weather it be day by day or after a couple weeks.

3. WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS/HOPES FOR YOUR LEARNING EXPERIENCES IN THE

PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM?

My expectations are to learn all of the information well enough to be able to retain it throughout my
time in the program and my profession.

4. HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR PT PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION WILL BE THE SAME AS OR

DIFFERENT FROM PREVIOUS EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCS?

I think the education I will be receiving during this program is different from undergrad because during
undergrad not all of the classes I took pertained to PT. Also this program provides more hands on learning and
real life experiences I will face where undergrad did not.

5. HOW DO YOU FEEL YOU LEARN BEST? WHAT FACILITATES YOUR LEARNING?

I learn best by writing out notes, watching videos, doing hands on activities, and many examples.

6. WHAT HAVE YOU FOUND INHIBITS OR CONSTRAINS YOUR LEARNING?

I cannot learn in a distracting environment or when the professor jumps around in lecture.

7. WHAT STRENGTHS OR SPECIAL CONTRIBUTIONS DO YOU THINK YOU BRING TO THE PT

PROGRAM AND PROFESSION?
Once I start something I am very determined to finish it and put all of my hard work and effort into it. I
feel that those characteristics are good to have for this program since it can be hard at times and I may doubt
myself. I have also developed good communication skills that will help me succeed in doing group work.

8. WHAT AREAS WOULD YOU LIKE TO GROW OR IMPROVE IN DURING THE TIME YOU ARE
COMPLETING THE PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM?

I would like to step outside my box even more throughout this program and be able to approach professors
when needed and be involved.

9. WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR SHORT-TERM (1-2 YEARS) PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL
GOALS?

I would like to participate in Hands for Health and experience early on in this program to be presented
with situations I will encounter in the work field. I would also like to successfully make it through all of my classes
while gaining all of the knowledge I need to be a PT.

10. WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR LONG-TERM (3-6 YEARS) PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL
GOALS?

I would like to get a job that is in Traverse City/ Charlevoix area so I could move there. Then start making
money to pay off my student loans and possibly start a family.
