What is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall
be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the
end of the earth. - Acts 1:8

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is when the Holy Spirit comes upon someone and gives them power
for service and testimony to be witnesses for Jesus Christ. Every Christian gets the Holy Spirit
when the get saved, John 20:22, but not everybody has the baptism of the Holy Spirit which came
after salvation and the disciples were told they were going to get Luke 24:49.

What is the Baptism?

Light and Life believe people who have the baptism of the holy spirit will speak in tongues as
evidence that they have been baptised in the Holy Spirit. This happened in the Bible following the
baptism of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2v11, Acts 10v46, Acts 19v6.

But what some people think today that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues, that is
wrong. Baptism of the Holy Spirit gives us power in our testimony & service Acts 4v31-35, if you
claim to have been baptised in the Holy Spirit but have no power in you life, there is a good chance
that you haven't been as through the bible boldness and power follow the baptism of the Holy Spirit
and takes someone with no power to someone who has an effect in others lives. Acts 2v14-39, Acts
4v31-33, Acts 9v17,22.

We have to remember the gift of tongues is one gift of many spiritual gifts listed in the bible, Read
Romans 12 & 1 Corinthians 12 for the gifts mentioned.

Why is it so important?

The main reason for baptism of the Holy Spirit is to be witnesses, this does not mean just preaching
the Gospel, but in our daily lives, those in the book of Colossians were known to be Christians by
there conduct Colossians 4:2-6 We witness with our lives not just with our mouths. It's also not just
for Pastors & Preachers but for everyone, a mother who has to look after her sick child won't be
able to reach many lost but with this baptism the Spirit will give her the power to look after the
child and testimony to those whom she sees, many people in her position whom we think need our
encouragement end up encouraging us when we leave, that is a gift given for the service they are in.
Many may not be good at preaching the gospel or teaching others but they could have the gift of
giving to aid others or the gift of helps to aid them.

We must remember that this power is from on high direct from God, the Holy Spirit when He
baptises someone will give the gift that He wants to give them 1 Corinthians 12:11, not everyone
has the same gift 1 Corinthians 12:30, but we are to seek the best gifts of the Spirit to be baptised
into service 1 Corinthians 12:31, this means not to want the best gifts for a selfish reason so we
can be seen but to be baptised with the gift that will serve the Lord where He wants us to be, the
Holy Spirit knows what place for you to serve and what gift to give you, dont covet someone else
ministry.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is needed more now than ever, many have no power in their service
and testimony, we need this power. We are in the last days many are falling away, we need the
Spiritual gifts active so we can pull through together.
Foundation Lesson 10

How to get the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?

Just ask God for it! It is really that simple but remember to ask according to His will 1 John 5:14-
15. We know that God wants to give good gifts to those that ask Matthew 7:11. In Scripture it can
be received by laying of hands Acts 8:17. But you have to be willing to receive it John 7:37-39.

How do you know that you've been baptised in the Holy Spirit, you'll have to believe what you ask
Mark 11:24, it will show in your area of service, you will serve with more power and be more
effective than ever before, you may feel the power of the Holy Spirit come upon you or you may
not, everyone is different. But remember this it shows in your life, your have a boldness like
nothing ever before, you proclaim Jesus with more boldness and you receive great power from on
high that when God moves by His Spirit things are seen.

But you have to be willing, pray to God to help to give you will over to Him, that the flesh will not
hold you back and He will bless, He wants you to have the baptism of the Holy Spirit, He wants the
church to be effective for Him.

We will be looking at the different gifts in the next few lessons.

Question

1) Have you been baptised in the Holy Spirit? If not why not. It's important to have this baptism if
you want to live an effective Christian life. If you dont understand something, please go to your
pastor and He will help you, and will pray with you to be baptised in the Holy Spirit?

2) If you've been baptised in the Holy Spirit, do you have power in your life? If not maybe you need
to pray and see whats making you lack power, maybe God has another gift for you. Or maybe there
is sin in your life. Seek God and pray to reveal to you why.
