Overview
In this report, we take a look at the beer consumed on the day of the big fight between Floyd
Mayweather and Connor McGregor (Saturday, August 26, 2017). While The Money Team
(TMT) was celebrating the win by their guy (Mayweather), BeerBoards The Beer Team
(TBT) was diving into pour volume data generated from BeerBoard clients.
The Mayweather-McGregor fight was a sporting, pop culture and social phenomenon - and the
beer was flowing to prove it! Total volume for the day was up a staggering 36.3% over the
previous Saturday (August 19).
Entrenched as the #1 beer style in American, Light Lager saw a bump on fight day, climbing
3.5% over August 19. The biggest climb in the category came from Coors Light
(+11.8%),which checked in as the #3 Light Lager.
Irish fans are noted for unwavering support of their fellow countryman, Connor McGregor. The
Beer Team draws a direct correlation to a strong showing from Guinness. The #1 overall Stout
was up 18% on the day.
Bells Two Hearted took over the #1 spot for IPAs on fight day, up 43%. Founders All Day
IPA catapulted up the IPA rankings from #7 to #3, growing 65% over the previous Saturday.
Lagers, the second-ranked style overall, were down 12.7% on the day, but two beers stood out
above the rest. Budweiser, the #1 Lager, bucked the trend and was up 15.4% on the day. Modelo
Especial (#3) grew an impressive 40% over its performance on the same Saturday last year
(August 27, 2016).
