Q1

Defects Good Sample Defect Rate

Baseline 6,290 613,710 620,000 0.01015
Pilot Test 466 48,534 49,000 0.00951
Q1.1
The test hypothesis is

The null hypothesis is H0: p 1 p 2 = 0

The alternative hypothesis is H1: p 1 p 2 0

Q1.2

Q1.3
Given n1= 620000 n2=49000

p1*= Defects baseline / no. of Sample baseline = 6290 / 620000 = 0.0101452

Also

p2*= Defects pilot / no. of Sample baseline = 466 / 49000 = 0.0095102

So the total population defects will be,

p* = Total defects / total no. of Sample = (6290 + 466) / (620000 + 49000) = 0.01009865

95% confidence interval for the baseline process defect rate in %

p (1p )
Formula - p1 z1(/2) n1

for 95% confidence interval with = 0.05 from the Z table the value of z_(1-(/2)) is 1.96.

0.01009865(10.01009865)
0.0101452 + 1.96 = 0.010394
620000

Thus the upper confidence interval in % =1.0394

0.1009865(10.1009865)
0.0101452 1.96 = 0.009895
620000

Thus the lower confidence interval in % =0.9895

The class interval is {0.9895, 1.0394}

Q1.4
95% confidence interval for the improved process defect rate in %.

p (1p )
Formula - p2 z1(/2)
n2

for 95% confidence interval with = 0.05 from the Z table the value of z_(1-(/2)) is 1.96.

0.01009865(10.01009865)
0.0095102 + 1.96 49000
= 0.01039549

Thus the upper confidence interval in % =1.039549

0.01009865(10.01009865)
0.0095102 1.96 49000
=8.62490 * 10-3

Thus the lower confidence interval in % =0.86249

The class interval is {0.86249, 1.039549}

Q3.1

A nuisance or uncontrolled factor that adds variation to a process or product. These factors,
such as multiple machines, raw materials, can be built into the experiment so that their
variation doesn't get put to gather into the unexplained, or experiment error. Noise factors can
affect actual measurable results but they are of not prime interest. The key strength is the
ability to determine factors and settings that minimize the effects of the uncontrollable factors.
All experiments have noise factors. The tester needs to spend some time deciding which noise
factor are important enough to keep track of control, during the experiment.
