EXPERIMENT 2: DOUBLE ACTING CYLINDER

Objective:

o To observe the construction and functional differences between a single acting

cylinder and a double acting cylinder.

o To understand the operation of the indirect command by means of a monostable

air-piloted valve, with another 3/2 valve controlled by pushbutton.

o To understand the functional and constructive differences between the air-piloted

monostable and bistable valves.

o To understand the operation of the bistable valve as an item of memory.

Part 1: Direct command

Description:
A double acting cylinder will be moved by the effect of a spring-return air-piloted
5/2 monostable valve.

Activation by push-button of a second 3/2 valve will provide the signal to activate
the valve moving the cylinder.

The cylinder will move out when the push-button is pressed, and will move in
when the user releases it.

MCTE3210: Electromechanical Systems and Actuators
Part 1: Indirect Command With Bistable Valve

Description:
o A double acting cylinder will be driven by theeffect of an air-piloted 5/2 bistable
valve.

o Activation by push-button of two 3/2 valves will provide the signals to activate the
bistable valve in both directions to move the cylinder.

o The cylinder will move out when the first pushbutton M1 is pressed, and will
return to the original position when the user presses the second push-button M2.

o If no push-button is pressed, the cylinder will remain in the last position.
