LED OPERATION
A green LED on the controller PCB indicates the state of the controller:
1Hz 1:1 on/off ratio = Normal operation.
1Hz 1:9 on/off ratio = EEPROM version error.
2Hz 1:1 on/off ratio = Actuator/fan exercise mode.
2Hz 1:4 on/off ratio = EEPROM checksum error.
5Hz 1:1 on/off ratio = Temperature sensor not detected.
5Hz 1:4 on/off ratio = Flash checksum error.
Fixed on/off = Resonator calibration mode, firmware not loaded, fatal
programming error or hardware failure.
PROPORTIONAL BAND AND INTEGRAL TIME
The Proportional Band parameter defines the minimum required
temperature error in order to generate a 100% output from the control
loop, assuming the integral term is zero.
The net controller loop output is the integral term, plus the temperature
error divided by the proportional band value, i.e:
Loop output = Integral Term + (Error/PB)
For example:
Comfort setpoint = 21.0
Comfort tolerance = 0.4
Room temperature = 25.0
Proportional band = 10
Temperature error = 25-(21+(0.4/2)) = 3.8.
Loop output = (3.8/10)*100% = 38% if the integral term is zero.
Reducing the proportional band increases the controller output for a
given temperature error, and vice versa.
The Integral Time parameter defines the length of time in seconds
required to alter the loop output by the amount defined by the
proportional action. For example, using the example given for
Proportional Band, but changing Integral Time to 100 gives:
Loop output due to proportional action = 38%.
Integral term at t=0s = 0%. Loop output = 38%.
Integral term at t=100s = 38%. Loop output = 76%.
Integral term at t=200s = 76%. Loop output = 100%.
Integral term at t=300s = 100%. Loop output = 100%.
(The integral term is capped to +/- 100%.)
Reducing the integral time causes the actuator to open fully over a
smaller period of time.
As the integral term increases, it plays a more dominant part in defining
the loop output than the proportional action. Indeed, once there is a
non-zero integral term, the loop output is maintained at a non-zero
value (i.e. there is no need to open/close valve), even if the
proportional term is reduced to zero (i.e. when the temperature error is
zero). There are only two occasions for the integral term to be reduced:
When the controller switches from heating to cooling mode, or vice
versa. This will 'dump' the integral term, i.e. reduce it to zero, so that
operation in this new mode is not influenced by whatever occurred
in the previous mode.
When the temperature enters the tolerance band (Comfort mode) or
the band between the two setpoints (Economy mode). This will
cause the sign of the error to switch, and the integral term will then
integrate itself back towards zero.

CONTROLLER VERSION
The Version parameter gives details of the controller firmware.
The first two characters are always 'BB'.
The third character specifies the firmware type:
'A' = DX cooling + heater.
'B' = Two pipe.
'C' = Four pipe + battery control.
'D' = Four pipe airside.
The fourth character specifies S-Link support:
'0' = No S-Link support.
'1' = S-Link master mode support (legacy products only).
'2' = S-Link master/slave mode support.
'3' = Network Temperature and Fan Speed update support.
(All URC-41N-10X and URC-51N-10X controllers provide S-Link
master or master/slave support.)
The fifth character specifies where lookup tables have been stored:
'0' = Sensor lookup tables stored in Flash.
'1' = Sensor lookup tables stored in EEPROM.
The sixth character specifies the startup mode:
'0' = Fast startup (reset-initiated valve/fan exercise is disabled).
'1' = Normal startup (valve/fan exercise enabled on startup).

For example, 'BBD201' is a 4-pipe airside unit with master/slave mode
S-Link support and normal startup.
INTEGRATION CONTROLLER FUNCTIONS
UNIFACTPRO controllers can be networked to an Integration Controller
in a Sigma network. The Integration Controlleracts as a network master
for UNIFACTPRO controllers to monitor alarms, record logging
information and route commands to the UNIFACTPRO controllers. The
Integration Controller can be used to change controller operation or the
configuration parameters, such as the Comfort setpoint or operating
mode.
The modes and functions that the Integration Controller is able to
change include the following:
Comfort, Economy or Night override through a time schedule.
Actuator/fan exercise (see Page 5).
Load shedding (see Page 5).
Free cooling (see Page 5).
Fire override (see Page 4).
Summer/winter setpoint compensation (see Page 5).
Summer/winter change-over operation (see Page 5).
Automatic override to Night mode during cleaners shift (see Page
4).
Automatic setpoint sharing with other controllers.
Disabling of frost mode to prevent frost damage (see Page 4).
Temperature updates via network or from sensor (see Page 4).
Fan Speed updates via network (see Page 4).

APPLICATION DETAILS
FAN COIL UNIT, DX COOLING, ELECTRIC HEATER AND 3-SPEED FAN CONTROL
This is a simple fan coil unit control application with switched outputs
for DX cooling and an electric heater. The application has three-speed APPLICATION DIAGRAM
fan control for the URC-51N-10X and fan on/off control for the
URC-41N-10X.
The controller has three main modes: Comfort (day), Night (off) and DX Cooling Heater Fan
Economy. Economy mode enables the room temperature to fluctuate
over a wider temperature range than Comfort mode.
The controller can be switched into any of the three modes from the
Integration Controller. Alternatively, the controller can be switched
between Comfort and Economy, or Comfort and Night mode (as
selected by the H/W Input Overrides to Night Mode parameter) using
an occupancy sensor/switch connected to voltage-free input DI1 or
DI2. DI1 causes Economy/Night mode to be selected only if the input
is open-circuit for a specified time, which is useful for a PIR sensor.
Some S-Link sensors (MN-S2, MN-S3 and MN-S4) can be used to DDU/DU/DUS/S-Link
override Night or Economy mode to Comfort mode (via an Override
key).If S-Link Plus mode has been set, the MN-S4-FCS can perform
the same function using the Fan/Override key.

COMMISSIONING PARAMETERS
The controller has many parameters that enable you to customise and view the behaviour of the controller and change its mode of operation.
However, to make the controller fully operational, it may only be necessary to set the controller's address in the Subnet and Node parameters.
In this default case, the controller operates in Comfort mode, uses 3-speed fan control, uses no hardware inputs and expects a DDU/DU/DUS
temperature sensor if an S-Link sensor is not being used.
Quick Setup Parameters
The Quick Setup parameters are those parameters that you are most likely to want to change to customise the controller to the particular
application. You should keep the remaining parameters at their default values, unless there are unusual requirements.
PARAMETER RANGE ACCESS DEFAULT
Subnet 1 to 255 R/W 1
Displays and enables you to change the controllers subnet address. If you change this
address and wish to continue to configure the controller, you must re-connect to the
controller using the appropriate option in the commissioning tool.
Node 1 to 127 R/W 1
Displays and enables you to change the controllers node address. If you change this
address and wish to continue to configure the controller, you must re-connect to the
controller using the appropriate option in the commissioning tool.
Do not use address 1 for both the subnet and node addresses, since this is the default
controller address and will clash with any new UNIFACTPRO controller networked to this
one in the future. In addition, an address of subnet 1, node 1, indicates an EEPROM
error.
Frost Protection Enabled? 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) R/W 0
Set to 1 to enable frost protection. Refer to the Frost Protection section on Page 4.
H/W Input Overrides to Night Mode? 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) R/W 0
This parameter determines the mode that the controller switches to when the DI1 or DI2
input is open-circuited. Set to 1 if you want the controller to switch to Night mode, or to
0 if you want the controller to switch to Economy mode. Refer to the Economy/Night
Override Inputs section on Page 5.
H/W Input is Enabled? 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) R/W 0
Set to 1 to enable changes at DI1 to affect the controller mode (Comfort/Night or
Comfort/Economy). Refer to the Economy/Night Override Inputs section on Page 5.
Fan Enabled in Comfort Mode? 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) R/W 0
Set to zero to allow the fan to switch off after the room temperature has reached the
Comfort setpoint. The fan switches off after the time period specified by Fan Turn-Off
Delay. Set to 1 to keep the fan running.
DUS Sensor Attached? 0 (No) or 1 (Yes) R/W 0
Set to 1 if you have a DUS sensor connected to the controller and you want setpoint
adjustments made at the sensor to be recognised by the controller. If you set this
parameter to 0, the controller will continue to read temperature from the sensor.
Comfort SP 150 to 300 (stored R/W 210 (21.0C)
Defines the Comfort setpoint prior to any adjustment by Setpoint Adjustment. The as C multiplied by
Comfort setpoint (Comfort SP + Setpoint Adjustment) defines when heating/cooling 10)

Economy mode. 10)
Fan Speed Operation 1 or 3 R/W 3
Sets the maximum fan speed. On/off fan control = 1.
Three-speed fan control = 3 (URC-51N-10X only).
When set to 1, the fan speed selection feature of any attached S-Link sensor is
disabled.
Comfort Setpoint Offset Mode 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) R/W 1
S-Link Plus Mode 0 / (No) / 1 (Yes) R/W 1
Set to 1 to activate S-Link Plus Mode. In S-Link Plus mode, the Override key of the
MN-S2, MN-S3 and MN-S4 sensors overrides the controller to Night mode from
Comfort mode (fans switch off after specified timeout).
For the MN-S4-FCS, S-Link Plus mode enables override from Night/Economy to
Comfort mode for a specified time. In addition, in Comfort mode the Fan/Override key
cycles between fan off/fan auto/controller override to Night mode.
If the controller is overridden subsequently via the network to Night mode, the local
S-Link Night override is cancelled.
Zero Delay H/W Input is Enabled? 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) R/W 0
Set to 1 to enable changes at DI2 to affect the controller mode (Comfort/Night or
Comfort/Economy). Refer to the Economy/Night Override Inputs section on Page 5.

11
Advanced Setup Parameters
The Advanced Setup parameters are those parameters that you may to want to change in unusual circumstances to customise the controller to
the particular application, or to change or view the operation of the controller from the Integration Controller (e.g. to set the controller into fire
mode following a fire alarm).
PARAMETER RANGE ACCESS DEFAULT

Shows the current mode of the controller
0 = Comfort; 1 = Economy; 2 = Night; 3 = Frost Protection; 4 = Fire Override. An
unexpected mode of 'Night' may indicate an EEPROM or temperature sensor error.
Differential 1 5 to 35 (stored as C R/W 20 (2.0C)
Sets the following (refer to the Controller Behaviour diagrams): multiplied by 10)
a) The required temperature change to cause a change in fan speed, except when
changing to speed 1 from the Comfort setpoint (this is governed by Comfort Tolerance
and the Comfort setpoint). If, for example, the differential is 1C and the fan switches to
speed 2 at 19C, the fan can change speed again only at 18C or 20C. This ensures
that the fan cannot rapidly switch on and off around 19C due to noise.
b) The temperature in excess of the Economy heating setpoint when heating and the
fan stop.
c) The temperature below the Economy cooling setpoint when cooling and the fan stop.
Disable Valve/Fan Exercise Routine 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) R/W 0

Fan Speed 0 to 3 RO -
Shows the current speed of the fan. This may be the value specified at an S-Link
sensor. The S-Link Auto/Manual Flag shows whether the fan speed has been
overridden at an S-Link sensor.
Fan Turn-Off Delay 0 to 100 (stored as R/W 50 (5.0 mins)
Sets the length of time that the fan remains switched on once the heater/DX cooling unit mins multiplied by
has switched off. You can prevent the fan from switching off in Comfort mode by setting 10)
Fan Enabled in Comfort Mode to 1.
Free Cooling Active 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) R/W 0
Shows whether the controller is currently in (1) or out (0) of a free cooling routine.
Setting to 1 causes the controller to enter free cooling mode. Refer to the Free Cooling
section on Page 5.
Frost Protection Active 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) RO 0
Shows whether the controller is currently in (1) or out (0) of a frost protection routine.
Refer to the Frost Protection section on Page 4.
Frost SP 0 to 150 (stored as R/W 100 (10.0C)
Defines the temperature at which the frost protection routine starts. Refer to the Frost C multiplied by 10)
Protection section on Page 4.
Heater Active 0 (No) or 1 (Yes) RO -
Returns 1 if the electric heater is currently switched on (i.e. heating).
Heater Override to On? 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) R/W 0
Set to 1 to override the heater to on. Setting the parameter to 0 removes the override.
If no heater is fitted, this override has no effect.
H/W Override 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) RO -
Shows the status of the DI1 controller input, which provides a delayed override to switch
the controller between Comfort and Economy, or Comfort and Night mode.
1 = DI1 open circuit (Economy or Night mode).
0 = DI1 closed circuit (Comfort mode).
Refer to the Economy/Night Override Inputs section on Page 5.

switch the controller between Comfort and Economy, or Comfort and Night mode.
1 = DI2 open circuit (Economy or Night mode).
0 = DI2 closed circuit (Comfort mode).
Refer to the Economy/Night Override Inputs section on Page 5.

Note: Elements with R/O* access may be written to via the network, but
should be considered as read only from a user perspective. The
controller will not prohibit writing to these elements, but in normal
operational use there should be no reason to alter their values.

ENGINEERING\DIAGNOSTIC PARAMETERS
The following parameters are used for engineering and diagnostic purposes.
PARAMETER RANGE ACCESS DEFAULT
Controller Action 0 (Cooling) or RO -
This shows whether the controller is heating or cooling. It provides an alternative 1 (Heating)
method (to Controller Mode) of determining whether the controller is heating or
cooling.
Cycle Time 0 to 65535 RO -
Shows the time for the controller to perform one processing cycle. The cycle time microseconds
increases as the controller performs more processing. Typical values range from 100
to 600 microseconds.
Do Fan/Actuator Exercise 0 (button unset) or R/W 0
Setting to 172 (button set) causes a system reset. This has the same effect as 172 (button set)
disconnecting, then reapplying power to the controller.
Following a reset, the controller:
a) Initialises its timers and comms.
b) Checks the flash memory and EEPROM for errors.
c) Starts a fan exercise routine, provided that the controller was not in fire mode prior
to the reset.
Refer to the Actuator/Fan Exercise section on Page 5.
Firmware Build - RO -
Displays the build number of the firmware in the controller.
Firmware Type - RO -
Displays the name of the controller application. This is automatically derived from the
third character of the Version parameter.
Fan Timer 0 to 600 Secs. RO 300
When counting down, this shows the number of seconds that are remaining before the
fan switches off. When not counting down, this shows the value set in Fan Turn-Off
Delay.
Flash Updates 0 to 65535 RO -
Shows the number of times that the controller has been reprogrammed (i.e. has had its
flash memory erased and rewritten.
The maximum life of a flash memory is approximately 1000 writes.
Free Cooling Timer 0 to 3600 Secs. RO 3600
When counting down, this shows the number of seconds that are remaining before the
fan switches to its maximum speed during free cooling. When not counting down, this
shows the preset value of 3600 seconds. Refer to the Free Cooling section on Page 5.
H/W Override Timer 0 to 600 Secs. RO 0
When counting down, this shows the number of seconds that are remaining before the
controller switches to Economy or Night mode. When not counting down, this shows
the value set in H/W Ovr Time. Refer to the Economy/Night Override Inputs section on
Page 5.
Initialisation Mode 0 (No) or 1 (Yes) RO -
Set to 1 if the controller is performing a reset (including during a fan exercise routine
during a system reset).
Reset Count 0 to 255 R/W 0
Shows the number of times that the controller has been reset. The count is incremented
at power-up, at a watchdog timeout, when new firmware is downloaded, etc.
S-Link Auto/Manual Flag 0 or 1 RO -
This is set to 1 if the controller fan speed has been manually overridden by an S-Link
sensor when the controller is in Comfort mode. The Fan Speed parameter shows the
fan speed selected at the S-Link sensor.
S-Link Detected - - -
Same as S-Link Present.
S-Link Present 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) RO -
Returns 1 when an S-Link sensor is detected. Set to 0 if no S-Link sensor is present or
if there are communications errors to the sensor.
S-Link PSlave Mode 0 (No) or 1 (Yes) RO -
Set to 1 by the controller if it has configured itself as a slave; cleared to 0 if it is
configured as a master. Refer to the S-Link Sensor Sharing section on Page 8.
Source Error 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) RO -
If no temperature source is detected by the controller, this flag is set. The
controller will enter Night mode and flash the LED at 5Hz until a temperature
source is detected.
T-Type Detected - - -
Same as T-Type Present.
T-Type Present 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) RO -
Returns 1 if a DDU, DU or DUS sensor is connected to the controller.
Unit Name - R/W 'Unifact Pro'
Enables you to specify a name for the controller, which is stored in the controller.
Version - RO -
Displays the version of firmware in the controller. When the NCP Palm commissioning
tool connects to the controller, it reads the version number from the controller, then
loads an IBR file of the same name. The IBR file is unique to the controller application
and determines the options and fields that are displayed in NCP Palm. Refer to the
Controller Version section on Page 9.

A change-over thermostat can be located on the water supply pipe
work to determine whether the FCU is being supplied with hot or cold
water. When the FCU is supplied with cold water (typically 15C) (DI2
is open circuit), the valve actuator opens to begin cooling when the
room temperature is too high. When the FCU is supplied with hot water
(typically 25C) (DI2 is closed circuit), the valve actuator opens to begin
heating when the room temperature is too low.
If a change-over thermostat is not used, heating or cooling mode can Valve
be overridden manually by setting the Controller Mode Override
parameter, which can also be set via the Integration Controller (e.g. Water supply
after being switched from a Sigma PC) or from an appropriate S-Link Changeover
sensor (not the MN-S1 or MN-S4-FCS sensor; see 'S-Link Sensors' thermostat

Sensors uses terminals 9, 10, 11 & 12.
A DU, DUS or S-Link sensor can be used to measure room
temperature, with the DUS and some S-Link sensors also providing the
ability to adjust the controller setpoint. S-Link sensors also enable
other parameters to be changed, as described on Page 8.
Alternatively, a DDU sensor can be used if the 'room temperature' is
measured at the point where recirculated air enters the fan coil unit.
Additionally, room temperature data can be read via the network rather
than directly from a sensor; also fan speed data. See Page 4.

Notes About Fan Speed:

1. Fan speeds 2 and 3 are not applicable to the URC-41N-10X. Instead, fan speed 1 is used in all cases where fan speeds
2 and 3 are shown in the diagrams.
2. At system startup, the controller assumes the lower of the two fan speeds specified for each band.
3. The fan remains switched on for a specified period before switching off.

*Fan can be set to remain permanently on using the Fan Enabled In Comfort Mode parameter.

16
COMMISSIONING PARAMETERS
The controller has many parameters that enable you to customise and view the behaviour of the controller and change its mode of operation.
However, to make the controller fully operational, it may only be necessary to set the controller's address in the Subnet and Node parameters,
and to check Pulse-Pair Stroke Time or PWM Cycle Time. In this default case, the controller operates in Comfort mode, uses 3-speed fan
control, uses no hardware inputs or electric heater and expects a change-over thermostat, a pulsed-pair actuator and a DDU/DU/DUS
temperature sensor (if S-Link is not being used).
This parameter determines the mode that the controller switches to when the DI1 input
is open-circuited. Set to 1 if you want the controller to switch to Night mode, or to 0 if
you want the controller to switch to Economy mode.
0 (No) / 1 (Yes) R/W 1
Set to zero to allow the fan to switch off after heating/cooling has stopped in Comfort
mode. The fan switches off after the time period specified by Fan Turn-Off Delay. Set
to 1 to keep the fan running.
DUS Sensor Attached? 0 (No) or 1 (Yes) R/W 0
Set to 1 if you have a DUS sensor connected to the controller and you want setpoint
adjustments made at the controller to be recognised by the controller. If you set this
parameter to 0, the controller will continue to read temperature from the sensor.
Comfort SP 150 to 300 (stored R/W 210 (21.0C)
Defines the Comfort setpoint prior to any adjustment by Setpoint Adjustment. The as C multiplied by
Comfort setpoint (Comfort SP + Setpoint Adjustment) and Comfort Tolerance 10)
determine when heating/cooling begins/stops in Comfort mode. The fan may also stop
depending on Fan Enabled in Comfort Mode. The value also affects free cooling
mode; refer to the Free Cooling section on Page 5.
Economy SP - Heating 100 to 240 (stored R/W 190 (19.0C)
Defines the temperature at which heating begins and the fan is switched on when in as C multiplied by
Economy mode. 10)
Economy SP - Cooling 210 to 350 (stored R/W 230 (23.0C)
Defines the temperature at which cooling begins and the fan is switched on when in as C multiplied by
Economy mode. 10)
Fan Speed Operation 1 or 3 R/W 3
Sets the maximum fan speed. On/off fan control = 1.
Three-speed fan control = 3 (URC-51N-10X only).
When set to 1, the fan speed selection feature of any attached S-Link sensor is
disabled.
Comfort Setpoint Offset Mode 0 (No) or 1 (Yes) R/W 1
Pulsed-Pair Stroke Time 1 to 600 seconds R/W 150
This specifies the stroke time of the pulse-pair actuator. This setting is relevant only if
a pulse-pair valve actuator is being used, as specified by Actuator Type.
PWM Cycle Time 1 to 600 seconds R/W 150
This specifies the pulse time required for 100% opening of the pulse-width modulated
actuator. This setting is relevant only if a PWM valve actuator is being used, as
specified by Actuator Type.
Actuator Type 0 (PWM or R/W 1
Specifies the type of valve actuator being used. 0 selects a Pulse Width Modulated 1 (Pulsed-pair)
(PWM) actuator, e.g. AVX7251 (wax-filled). 1 selects a pulsed pair driven actuator such
as the AVU and AVUX.

17
PARAMETER RANGE ACCESS DEFAULT
Heater Installed 0 (No) R/W 0
Set to 1 (Yes) if an electric heater is being used. 1 (Yes)
Heater Configuration 0 (Config A) or R/W 0
This setting is relevant only if an electric heater is being used, as specified by Heater 1 (Config B)
Installed. Set to 0 (Config A) if you do not want to use an electric heater for an additional
heat source when the FCU is supplied with hot water. Set to 1 (Config B) if you want to
use the electric heater as an additional heat source when the FCU is supplied with hot
water. In both cases, the electric heater is used if there is heating demand when the
FCU is supplied with cold water.
Controller Mode Override 0 (No) or 1 (Yes) R/W 0
Set this to 1 (Yes) if a change-over thermostat is not being used and you want to force
the controller to operate in heating mode. If set to 0, the controller determines whether
hot or cold water is present using the change-over thermostat. If the controller is
required only to cool, set to 0 and leave the DI2 input open circuit. Refer to the
Controller Behaviour diagrams.

Comfort SP Limits 0 to 40 (stored as C RO* Lower 150 (15C)
The lower and upper S-Link sensor setpoint limits defined dynamically by the Comfort multiplied by 10) (see note Upper 300 (30C)
SP -ve and +ve Offset Values when in Comfort Setpoint Offset Mode, otherwise the on Page 20)
limits will be 15C and 30C.
Comfort SP -ve and +ve Offset Values 0 to 40 (stored as C RW Lower 30 (3C)

Comfort Control Point 0 to 40 (stored as C RO* -
This is the target temperature actually used by the control loop. multiplied by 10) (see note
on Page 20)
Comfort Tolerance 0 to 40 (stored as C R/W 4 (0.4C)
Specifies the Comfort setpoint tolerance. The controller starts the heating/cooling multiplied by 10)
process and the fan (if switched off by Fan Enabled in Comfort Mode) when the
difference between room temperature and the Comfort setpoint exceeds half the
tolerance.
Control Loop Mode 0 to 4 RO -
Shows the current mode of the controller
0 = Comfort; 1 = Economy; 2 = Night; 3 = Frost Protection; 4 = Fire Override. An
unexpected mode of 'Night' may indicate an EEPROM or temperature sensor error.
Cooling Actuator Pos. 0 to 100% RO 0
Shows the amount by which the valve actuator is open when the FCU is being used for
cooling, as a percentage of fully open.
Differential 1 5 to 35 (stored as C R/W 20 (2.0C)
This setting is relevant only if an electric heater is being used. It specifies the multiplied by 10)
temperature in excess of the Economy heating setpoint when heating and the fan stop
(refer to the Controller Behaviour diagrams).
Differential 2 0 to 100% R/W 15%
This setting is relevant only if an electric heater is being used. It specifies the required
control loop change to cause the electric heater to switch off when it is used as an
additional heating source (refer to the Controller Behaviour diagrams).
Differential 3 5 to 30 (stored as C R/W 20 (2.0C)
This setting is relevant only if an electric heater is being used (refer to the Controller multiplied by 10)
Behaviour diagrams). It specifies the required temperature change to cause a change
in fan speed when the electric heater is in use and the only source of heat, except when
changing to speed 1 from the Comfort setpoint (this is governed by Comfort Tolerance
and the Comfort setpoint).
If, for example, the differential is 1C and the fan switches to speed 2 at 19C, the fan
can change speed again only at 18C or 20C. This ensures that the fan cannot rapidly
switch on and off around 19C due to noise.
Disable Valve/Fan Exercise Routine 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) R/W 0
Set to 1 to disable the actuator/fan exercise routine
Economy Cool and Heat SP Limits 0 to 40 (stored as C RW Cool
Enables the default setpoint lower and upper limits to be altered via the network, in the multiplied by 10) Lower 210 (21C)

Heat
Lower 100 (10C)
Upper 240 (24C)
Enable Network Temperature Updates 0(No)/1(Yes) RW 0
Set to 1 to allow Sensor Temperature and Fan Speed to be updated over the network.
Refer to the Temperature Data and Fan Speed Source Selection sections on Page 4.
Sets the length of time that the fan remains switched on once heating/cooling finishes. mins multiplied by
You can prevent the fan from switching off in Comfort mode by setting Fan Enabled in 10)
Comfort Mode to 1.
Free Cooling Active 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) R/W 0

4-PIPE FAN COIL UNIT, ELECTRIC HEATER AND 3-SPEED FAN CONTROL
This is a 4-pipe fan coil unit (FCU) control application, with separate
heating and cooling units and an optional electric heater. The FCU APPLICATION DIAGRAM
electric heater is used as an auxiliary heat source when the heating coil
cannot supply enough heat.
Electric
Controller Modes Heating Cooling Heater Fan
The controller has three main modes: Comfort (day), Night (off) and
Economy. Economy mode enables the room temperature to fluctuate
over a wider temperature range than Comfort mode. In Night mode, the
valve actuators are closed and the fan off.
The controller can be switched into any of the three modes via the
Integration Controller. Alternatively, the controller can be switched
between Comfort and Economy, or Comfort and Night mode (as Valve
selected by the H/W Input Overrides to Night Mode parameter) using Hot water
supply
an occupancy sensor/switch connected to voltage-free input DI1 or
Cold water
DI2. DI1 causes Economy/Night mode to be selected only if the input supply
is open-circuit for a specified time, which is useful for a PIR sensor.
Some S-Link sensors (MN-S2, MN-S3 and MN-S4) can be used to DDU/DU/DUS/
override Night or Economy mode to Comfort mode (via an Override S-Link
key). If S-Link Plus mode has been set, the MN-S4-FCS can perform
Speed 1
the same function using the Fan/Override key. Speed 2
The controller also has fire, frost protection, free cooling and fan Occupancy
exercise modes. Free-cooling mode provides energy savings in sensor UNIFACTPRO Controller
summer by using outside air to cool the building at Night.
Valve Actuator Operation
In Comfort mode, the heating/cooling valve starts to open when the
room temperature rises/falls by more than half the Comfort Tolerance
value from the Comfort setpoint. The valve closes in the Comfort
tolerance area, depending on the value of the Integral Time WIRING DIAGRAM
parameter.

Notes About Fan Speed:

1. Fan speeds 2 and 3 are not applicable to the URC-41N-10X. Instead, fan speed 1 is used in all cases
where fan speeds 2 and 3 are shown in the diagrams.
2. At system startup, the controller assumes the lower of the two fan speeds specified for each band.
3. The fan remains switched on for a specified period before switching off.

*Fan can be set to remain permanently on using the Fan Enabled In Comfort Mode parameter.

COMMISSIONING PARAMETERS
The controller has many parameters that enable you to customise and view the behaviour of the controller and change its mode of operation.
However, to make the controller fully operational, it may only be necessary to set the controller's address in the Subnet and Node parameters,
and to check Pulse Width Stroke Time or PWM Cycle Time. In this default case, the controller operates in Comfort mode, uses 3-speed fan
control, uses no hardware inputs or electric heater and expects pulsed pair actuators and a DDU/DU/DUS temperature sensor (if no S-Link is
used).

23
PARAMETER RANGE ACCESS DEFAULT
Comfort SP 150 to 300 (stored R/W 210 (21.0C)
Defines the Comfort setpoint prior to any adjustment by Setpoint Adjustment. The as C multiplied by
Comfort setpoint (Comfort SP + Setpoint Adjustment) and Comfort Tolerance 10)
determine when heating/cooling begins/stops in Comfort mode. The fan may also stop
depending on Fan Enabled in Comfort Mode. The value also affects free cooling
mode; refer to the Free Cooling section on Page 5.
Economy SP - Cooling 210 to 350 (stored R/W 230 (23.0C)

Controller Version section on Page 9.

27
4-PIPE FAN COIL UNIT, WITH AIR-SIDE CONTROL AND 3-SPEED FAN CONTROL
This is a 4-pipe fan coil unit (FCU) control application, with separate
heating and cooling units and heating/cooling determined by altering APPLICATION DIAGRAM
the angle of the damper. The damper alters the flow of air past the
heating and cooling units and therefore affects the amount of Hot water supply
heating/cooling that takes place.
Controller Modes
Heating
The controller has three main modes: Comfort (day), Night (off) and
Economy. Economy mode enables the room temperature to fluctuate Fan
over a wider temperature range than Comfort mode. In Night mode, the
damper is at the neutral (50%) position and the fan off. Damper

The controller can be switched into any of the three modes via the
Integration Controller. Alternatively, the controller can be switched Cooling
between Comfort and Economy, or Comfort and Night mode (as
selected by the H/W Input Overrides to Night Mode parameter) using
an occupancy sensor/switch connected to voltage-free input DI1 or
DI2. DI1 causes Economy/Night mode to be selected only if the input Cold water supply
is open-circuit for a specified time, which is useful for a PIR sensor.
Some S-Link sensors (MN-S2, MN-S3 and MN-S4) can be used to
override Night or Economy mode to Comfort mode (via an Override
key). If S-Link Plus mode has been set, the MN-S4-FCS can perform
the same function using the Fan/Override key. DDU/DU/DUS/
S-Link
The controller also has fire, frost protection, free cooling and fan Speed 1
exercise modes. Free-cooling mode provides energy savings in Speed 2
summer by using outside air to cool the building at Night. Speed 3

Notes About Fan Speed:

1. Fan speeds 2 and 3 are not applicable to the URC-41N-10X. Instead, fan speed 1 is used in all
cases where fan speeds 2 and 3 are shown in the diagrams.

However, to make the controller fully operational, it may only be necessary to set the controller's address in the Subnet and Node parameters
and to check Pulse-Pair or PWM Cycle Time. In this default case, the controller operates in Comfort mode, uses 3-speed fan control, uses no
hardware inputs and expects a pulsed-pair actuator and a DDU/DU/DUS temperature sensor (if S-Link is not used).
Set to zero to allow the fan to switch off after heating/cooling has stopped in Comfort
mode. The fan switches off after the time period specified by Fan Turn-Off Delay. Set
to 1 to keep the fan running.

29
PARAMETER RANGE ACCESS DEFAULT
DUS Sensor Attached? 0 (No) or 1 (Yes) R/W 0
Set to 1 if you have a DUS sensor connected to the controller and you want setpoint
adjustments made at the controller to be recognised by the controller. If you set this
parameter to 0, the controller will continue to read temperature from the sensor.
Comfort SP 150 to 300 (stored R/W 210 (21.0C)
Defines the Comfort setpoint prior to any adjustment by Setpoint Adjustment. The as C multiplied by
Comfort setpoint (Comfort SP + Setpoint Adjustment) and Comfort Tolerance 10)
determine when heating/cooling begins/stops in Comfort mode (i.e. when the damper
starts to move from its neutral position). The fan may also stop depending on Fan
Enabled in Comfort Mode. The value also affects free cooling mode; refer to the Free
Cooling section on Page 5.
This specifies the pulse time required for 100% opening of the pulse-width modulated
actuator. This setting is relevant only if a PWM actuator is being used, as specified by
Actuator Type.
Actuator Type 0 (PWM or R/W 1
Specifies the type of valve actuator being used. 0 selects a Pulse Width Modulated 1 (Pulsed-pair)
(PWM) actuator, e.g. AVX7251 (wax-filled). 1 selects a pulsed pair driven actuator such
as the AVU and AVUX.

from the Integration Controller. When in fire mode, the controller stops the fan and
returns the actuator to its neutral (50%) position. Setting the parameter back to 0
removes the override. Refer to the Mode Priorities section (Page 5).
Override to Night Mode 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) R/W 0
Set to 1 to override the current mode of the controller to Night mode. This can also be
set from the Integration Controller, or following the override input (DI1/DI2) switching to
open-circuit (depending on the H/W Input Overrides to Night Mode parameter).
Setting the parameter back to 0 removes the override. Refer to Mode Priorities (Page
5) and Economy/Night Override Inputs (Page 5).
Preferred Temperature Source 0 (T-Type) or R/W -
If the controller is connected to both S-Link and T-Type temperature sensors, you must 1 (S-Link)
choose which of these sensors to use for temperature readings. If the preferred sensor
type is not present, the controller will automatically revert to using the alternative type
until the preferred type is reconnected.
Proportional Band 1 to 99C R/W 5
In a typical building, there is no need to change this value. If required, refer to the
Proportional Band and Integral Time section on Page 6.
Sensor Temperature 0 to 400 (stored as RO -
Shows the current temperature measured by the sensor connected to the controller or C multiplied by 10)
updated via the network. Temperatures above 40C register as 40C. Temperatures
below 0C register as 0C.
Setpoint Adjustment -30 to 30 (stored as RO -
Displays the adjustment value set at the DUS room sensor. The value is used to adjust C multiplied by 10)
the controllers Comfort setpoint.
S-Link Override Time 0 to 99 Minutes. R/W 60
Specifies the period of time that the controller is overridden to Comfort mode when the
Override key is pressed at an appropriate S-Link sensor (see 'S-Link Sensors'
on Page 7).
S-Link SP Adjustment -40 to 40 (stored as RO* -
The value (when Comfort Setpoint Offset Mode (CSOM) is enabled) used in C multiplied by 10) (see note
conjunction with the Comfort SP to provide the target temperature (Comfort Control on Page 32)
Point).
This value is limited to the range defined by the Comfort SP -ve and +ve Offset
Values.
S-Link Master Select Priority 1 (Yes) or 0 (No) RW 0
Set to 1 to give Controller priority in S-Link Master selection process.
Start Valve/Fan Exercise 0 or 1 R/W -
Set this to 1 to begin an actuator/fan exercise. The value is automatically reset when
the exercise is complete or if the mode cannot be started. Refer to the Actuator/Fan
Exercise section on Page 5.
Valve/Fan Exercise Active 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) RO 0
Shows whether the controller is currently in (1) or out (0) of an actuator/fan exercise
routine. (Derived by reading Start Valve/Fan Exercise.) Refer to the Actuator/Fan
Exercise section on Page 5.
Zero Delay H/W Override 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) RO -
Shows the status of the DI2 controller input, which provides a zero-delay override to
switch the controller between Comfort and Economy, or Comfort and Night mode.
1 = DI2 open circuit (Economy or Night mode).
0 = DI2 closed circuit (Comfort mode).
Refer to the Economy/Night Override Inputs section on Page 5.

Note: Elements with R/O* access may be written to via the network, but should be considered as read only from a user perspective. The controller
will not prohibit writing to these elements, but in normal operational use there should be no reason to alter their values.
ENGINEERING\DIAGNOSTIC PARAMETERS
The following parameters are used for engineering and diagnostic purposes..
PARAMETER RANGE ACCESS DEFAULT
Controller Action 0 (Cooling) or RO -
This shows whether the controller is heating or cooling. It provides an alternative 1 (Heating)
method (to Controller Mode) of determining whether the controller is heating or
cooling.
Cycle Time 0 to 65535 RO -
Shows the time for the controller to perform one processing cycle. The cycle time microseconds
increases as the controller performs more processing. Typical values range from 100
to 600 microseconds.
Do Fan/ Actuator Exercise 0 (button unset) or 0
Setting to 172 (button set) causes a system reset. This has the same effect as 172 (button set)
disconnecting, then reapplying power to the controller.
Following a reset, the controller:
a) Initialises its timers and comms.
b) Checks the flash memory and EEPROM for errors.
c) Starts an actuator/fan exercise routine, provided that the controller was not in fire
mode prior to the reset.
Fan Timer 0 to 600 Secs. RO 300
When counting down, this shows the number of seconds that are remaining before the
fan switches off. When not counting down, this shows the value set in Fan Turn-Off
Delay.
Firmware Build RO
Displays the build number of the firmware in the controller.

32
PARAMETER RANGE ACCESS DEFAULT
Firmware Type - RO -
Displays the name of the controller application. This is automatically derived from the
third character of the Version parameter.
Heater Override to On? 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) R/W 0
This is not relevant for the air-side application.
H/W Override Timer 0 to 600 Secs. RO 0
When counting down, this shows the number of seconds that are remaining before the
controller switches to Economy or Night mode. When not counting down, this shows
the value set in H/W Ovr Time. Refer to the Economy/Night Override Inputs section on
Page 5.
Initialisation Mode 0 (No) or 1 (Yes) RO -
Set to 1 if the controller is performing a reset (including during an actuator/fan exercise
routine during a system reset).
Loop Output 0 to 100% RO 0
Shows the current output of the control algorithm. The damper position moves linearly
with loop output. When the loop output is 0%, the damper position is at 50% open.
When cooling and the loop output is 100%, the damper is fully open. When heating and
the loop output is 100%, the damper is fully closed.
Overrun Timer 0 to 60 Secs. RO 60
When the actuator reaches 0% or 100%, the controller continues to drive the actuator
for 60 seconds to ensure that it is fully closed/open. Overrun Timer displays the length
of time remaining during this period.
S-Link Detected - -
Same as S-Link Present.
The controller will
enter Night mode and flash the LED at 5Hz until a temperature source is detected.
T-Type Detected - - -
Same as T-Type Present.
T-Type Present 0 (No) / 1 (Yes) RO -
Returns 1 if a DU, DUS or DDU sensor is connected to the controller.
