An Improved Method for Temperature Controlled Transportation of Perishable

Goods - CelsureTM , R&D Department, Gurugram - (Project - Celsure) (2015-)
The project relates to the transportation of vaccine and other temperature sensitive
goods providing long and temperature controlled back up using phase change
material along with a novel heat transfer technique and design. Phase change ma-
terials are suitable for storing thermal energy in the form of latent heat. CelsureTM
uses, Phase Change Material in which one PCM provides support to the other in
order to provide temperature controlled environment to the transportation system
of perishable goods. Cascaded system refers to use of one PCM which is charged
(frozen) electrically and provides support to other PCM. This system can be used
by various temperature ranges specified by WHO and various sizes. A patent has
been applied for CelsureTM at Indian Patent Application 3465/DEL/2015, filed in
March 2016.

Removal of Naphthenic Acid Using Hydro processing Route from Hydrocarbons at

Indian Oil Corporation Limited, R&D Division, Faridabad - (M.Tech. Dissertation)
(2014-2015)
Naphthenic acid (NA), a major component in crudes leads to high temperature cor-
rosion in various equipment like furnaces, CDU, heat exchangers, etc. Finding out
an efficient method to remove these acids (reducing TAN) with existing infrastruc-
ture in refineries or small modifications with economical operating conditions is to
be done which will give an advantage to exploit opportunity crudes for improving
the Gross Refinery Margin (GRM). Hydro treating is considered as a promising
route to eliminate these naphthenic acids and a study is done on it. Experiments
which include preparation of feed (doping of NA), setting up operating conditions,
catalysts and running of experiments in Micro Reactor Unit, analysis of results.

A Study on Industrial Naphtha Hydro treating Pilot Plant at Chennai Petroleum

Corporation Limited (CPCL) R&D, Manali, Chennai - (B.Tech. Dissertation) (2013)
Under supervision of Ms. Lavanya a senior scientist at CPCL, the naphtha hydro
treating studies were carried out in a micro reactor unit using a new generation
catalyst Co-Mo/Al2 O3 with a unique composition. Using this catalyst the currently
used LHSV (Liquid Hour Space Velocity) ranging from 4 to 5 hr1 with commercial
catalysts like Pt-Re, Pt-Pd can be improved to 7.5-10 hr1 , thus reducing the process
time as well as the operating temperatures and increased efficient removal of sulfur.

Training at Orchid Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Alathur, Chennai - (2012)

Understood the process of recovery of Iso-Propylene Ether, Ethyl Alcohol, Aceto
Nitrile, and Methanol and drew the Block Flow Diagrams of the processes and
generated Process Flow Diagrams for two solvents. Fascinated by the mechanism
of the Safety Fire Lock Valve.

Removal of Dye using ZnO Nano Catalyst, Chennai - (B.Tech. Mini Project) (2011-
2012)
Dye removal from waste water has been a matter of concern, both in aesthetic
sense and health point of view. There have been various promising techniques for
the removal of dyes from waste water. However the effectiveness of adsorption for
dye removal from waste water has made it an ideal alternative to the other expen-
sive treatment methods. Under supervision of an Mrs. Sunita Salla an Assistant
Professor at Sathyabama University, literature survey and experimental studies
were conducted and a combination of UV rays and ZnO Nano catalyst is found to
be an effective ingredient in the removal process. I learnt about various analytical
techniques like SEM, TEM, FT-IR, XRD, through which crucial data like surface
area, topography of the catalyst, etc. was collected for interpretations.

Conferences Organized/Attended

Operation and Usage of Simulation Softwares in Chemical Engineering (Apr13)

A two day workshop on Aspen & Hysys was organized by a few final year
students and SDC (Student Development Centre) on 23-24th April.2013. There were
nearly 45 students and 5 Faculty members who attended the workshop. A few
basics of using Aspen and the benzene-toulene distillation separation system was
discussed and simulated, lab sessions on a similar example were held in the after-
noon of the first day and a few basics of Hysys were discussed on the second day
followed by a lab session

CHEMCON - 2012, NIT- Jalandhar (Dec12)

Presented a paper on the potential of phenol removal by a low cost adsorbent in
a batch reactor, attended many technical sessions on novel separation techniques,
Hydrocarbon & fossil fuels, Modeling simulation and scale up, Process develop-
ment were really amazing sessions taken by various prominent persons around
the country

Energy Efficient Technologies for Green Environment - SCHEMCON - 2012, BITS-

Pilani, Rajasthan (Sept12)
Presented a poster on Sedimentation characteristics of Tannery waste water, where
reputed people judges and a few interesting things regarding NTU (Nephlometric
Turbidity Units) were told by them after my poster presentation, that various
delicate species live on the level of turbidity across coral reefs. It was fascinating
and tickled my research instincts to pursue research than a conventional job.
