issued BlackBerry devices and instead use their own devices to access work email.
Employees have already discovered that they can easily access company email from
their own devices once they know the name of the company's Microsoft Exchange
server. After an information security investigation it was determined that multiple
managers are connecting to the Exchange server using the same generic email
address; as a result, IT has no idea who is actually accessing the company network
each time.
Furthermore, the IT team recently discovered that many of the emails accessed using
personal devices were confidential client files. These files are often copied onto
personal devices or opened in third-party editing apps. It has been determined that
at times file attachments are too large to be sent via email and therefore Tech
Hotel employees are using a public cloud service such as Dropbox to store their
files. This is considered a highly insecure practice as all too many public cloud
services fall far short of the enterprise security standard.
