Lesson 5 Practice

For each career, provide a summary of the career, the level of education needed, and the median
pay for that career. Describe the working conditions for that career. Then, explain why you might
be interested in that career and how it relates to your educational goals.

Musician:
Musicians play instruments and make music for live audiences and in recording studios.
There isnt a level of education needed, except most classical and opera musicians usually have a
bachelors degree in music. The median pay for a musician is $25.14 per hour. Working
conditions for a musician can vary, as a musician can perform in concert halls, clubs, bars,
arenas, etc. I am interested in this career because I am interested in music and I think its
something very enjoyable and something worth pursuing a career in. The drawback of course is
that it has an unstable job market, and is not very reliable, like a normal office job. However it
relates to my education goals because its something I have to work at constantly, as I have to
build up my skills for it. Its a practical application of skills to the real world with people.

Software Developer:
Software developers develop applications for computers, and these applications allow
people to do tasks on a computer or electronic device. Some develop the systems that run the
devices or control the networks. The minimum level of education needed is a bachelors degree.
The median pay for a software developer is $102,280 a year, $49.17 an hour. The working
conditions for a software dev involves an office and full-time work, with long hours. There is no
danger as working as a software dev. Im interested in this career because I like to use and
interact with computers. I would like to create things with the computer (if I decide not to go into
music). It relates to my education goals because I have to learn all the knowledge in school and
be able to apply myself at that job. Like at school, I have to use my analytical, communication,
interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
