Design Specification
The safety guide section in design specification is to give constructors the knowledge
and notice on using tools during construction stage.
The power drill can cause damages if uses wrongly that is why we have come
up with some safety precautions to prevent the contractors working in the
workshop from getting damaged.
For the tools that use electricity as a power, to prevent the contractors from
getting electrocuted they should inspect the electrical tools, and to prevent cuts
and getting pierced by the jigsaw, Utility Knife and the power drill, the
contractors working these tools must have a good knowledge of the tools and
should wear gloves and google as a safety precaution.
To avoid been injured by the screw drivers, the contractors must avoid
carrying them in their pockets and use the tool box. The contractors should
also avoid using the screw driver for any electrical work unless the
screwdriver is properly insulated.
To maintain accurate and proper readings from the callipers the constructor
must ensure that they were previously store properly and well maintained.
This section will guide the constructors to construct the Mars Rover. The constructors
are required to follow the instructions given. The procedures are divided by parts and
constructors are advised to look through and understand the procedures before
proceeding to the construction stage.
Disclaimer:
Space Invader. Inc is not responsible for any injuries and damages while constructing
the mars lander.
Note
All the materials in the procedure can refer to Materials Required section.
All markings are done with permanent marker.
Levels is used to ensure the materials used are balanced.
Bolded instructions can be referenced to Design Drawings section.
Rim:
1. A wood with a thickness of 20mm is used as the rim of the wheel.
2. Measure 40mm radius by using compasses to draw a circle on the wood starting
on a fixed point. Carve the wood according to the measurement by using a
jigsaw.
3.4.4 Divider
1. A foam with a thickness of 10mm is used as the divider.
2. Measure and cut 100mm(length) and 60mm (height) of the foam by using pen
knife.
3. Repeat step 2 for another divider.
Tender Evaluation
4.1.2 Punctuality
Punctuality is the main behaviour for a person. This main behaviour showed the
responsibility and a time management of a person. Hence, the team who we work with
have to attend every meeting on time. Moreover, they should provide the minutes of
the previous meeting as the evidence for their punctuality. Every minute of meeting
must be submitted to the designers within 36 hours after every meeting. If the minute
of meeting is rejected due to any mistakes, the contractors have to resubmit updated
minute of meeting to the designers.
Maximum marks: 8 marks
Minimum marks: 0 mark
Marking Scheme: Table 4.2
4.1.3 Experience
For our company SI, we need a team of contractors that have high experience in
constructions and usage of the tools. This will provide a pro to the company where they
can complete the prototype with high quality. Our company will value the contractors
according to three sections, which are the experience in the building/constructio n,
experience in using the tools and experience in joining any project exhibitio n/
engineering related events. In these sections, evidences and descriptions are required to
be given as a prove. Moreover, contractors have to pick any 2 or more constructio n
tools and elaborate the usages respectively.

During this stage, most of the progress for the project are highly reliable to
computer and software. Early precaution should be taken to avoid any circumsta nces
such as computer automatically shut down which causes data loss. As a precaution,
team members are encouraged to save the updated data frequently. Furthermore, saving
the updated data in an uncorrupted USB flash drive is highly recommended.
Next, the issue of uncooperative team members is common in any group. This issue
usually arises when there are differences in the personality or behaviour of the team
members. This will affect the cooperation during the designing stage and can lead to a
huge pile of workloads that need to be completed before the deadline. In order to avoid
this issue, every task have to be divided equally among the team members to increase
the efficiency and quality of work.
Miscommunication among the team members could arise when the team members
have contradicting ideas. This issue may occur during the meeting session due to
different ideas and expectations within the team members. This will lead to low quality
of the designs and documentations of the project. Therefore, every member must focus
on their task that have been distributed by the leader and complete it before the deadline .

Sharp tools
Electrical tools
Splinters
During construction, the contractors will come across dangerous tools, like jig saw,
to cut the wood and the drill, to drill holes for the axle and the screws. If these tools are
not used properly they might cause minor injuries, like scratches and small cuts. In
serious cases, the contractors may experience deep cuts, while handling the jigsaw.
Therefore, it is advised that contractors working with such tools wear protective gloves,
and have read the instruction manual before operating the machine.
In addition, tools like the drill, that require an electrical power. Source to the
function, can also be dangerous as they may cause electrocution, when the electrical
tools contact with water or they are not properly maintained. Therefor before operating
an electrical tool make sure you dry your hands and inspect the tool thoroughly for any
defaults.
Another hazard, is, while drilling and sawing splitters might hit the eye of the people
around, that is why it is advise that all the contractors working in the workshop should
wear protective googles.

During the testing stage, securing the egg is the most important task, as the egg
represents the astronaut. Therefore, to prevent the egg from falling off the egg holder
when the car drops, the contractors should add more sponge to ensure the egg is fixed
tightly, and if that does not help the designers should come up with a backup plan for
the egg holder.
In addition, the prototype might yet get destroyed, before the final testing, as the
body parts of the prototype might fall off when it comes into contact with the ground
after the one-meter drop. To prevent this from happening the contractors should consult
with the designers for backup plans and make sure the body parts are fully secured.
Finally, the prototype might fail to work during the testing stage, this might be
caused by the poor workmanship of the contractors, that is why it is advised that the
designers must make sure the prototype is built according to the specification given in
the design package before the testing.
*Inspect the prototype a few hours before the final test

project
The aim of this report was to design and build a small size prototype which is tested by
rolling down a 2 meters slope with 30-45 degrees and a vertical drop of 1 metre without
manual control (Curtin University 2017, p.2). The report includes the whole process of
stage 1 which comprised of design drawings, specifications, tender evaluation criteria,
risk management plans and the Gantt Chart.
