PROCEDURE

Beginning the lesson

1.I wait by the door and I greet the children as they arrive.
(an activity to review language taught in My Home!).
2.I write on slips of paper the rooms of the house
(bathroom,berroom,kitchen ,living room)and hand them aut.
Children hold up their slips of paper as soon as they hear the
word.Alternatively ,instead of slips of paper the children can use
their picture word cards.
3.I play the song Chuckles is in the house from My Home!
Lesson 5.I invite children to sing along.

Presentation and practice

Flashcards 1-4(candles,party , happy , sad)

(An activity to present the vocabulary of the lesson .)


4.I pin up flashcards 1-4 ,one at a time , and say the appropiate
words.Children repeat .chorally and individually.

5.I draw a large 14 on the board . I point to it , mime and say :


Open your books at page fourteen.
(An activity to explore the theme.)

6.I read the title of the theme: My Birthday!I use a photograph of a


birthday cake to illustrate the meaning of the word birthday .

Listen and repeat

(An activity to practise the vocabulary of the lesson .)


7.Play the cassette.Children listen and repeat ,chorally and
individually.

Listen and look

(A listening activity to familarise children with spoken English.)


8.I set the scene by asking children what they can see in the
pictures illustrating the dialogue.
e.g.(picture 1-pointing to Lulu) Whos this ? Is she happy or
sad?,etc
9.Children listen and look at the pictures illustrating the dialogue .
10.Play the dialogue again with pauses for the children to listen
and repeat. I check childrens pronunciation and intonation.

Listen and circle

11.I explain them the listening task. I read the question and the two
alternatives.I tell them that they are going to listen to the dialogue
again and circle the correct age .
Chit Chat

12.I read the exchange.Children repeat after me.I elicit the


numbers 5-11.Children,in pairs , ask and answer.
13.Children close their books. I pin up flashcard No5.I say then
write :How old are you? Im five.Children repeat chorally and
individually .I pin up the rest of the flashcards .Children ask and
answer using the flashcards as prompts.

Song

(An activity for childrens language development.)


14.I ask the children to listen to the song and ,on the second time
through , I ask them to join in.

Ending the lesson

Children draw up to ten candles and colour them . They have to tell
me how many candles they have got.
e.g.How many candles have you got?
Six!etc
