BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT 2017

Mrs. Yeagers 4th Grade

Room 216
About the Teacher: MRS. YEAGER
This is my second year teaching here at Poupard Elementary.
This is also my second year of teaching overall.
I am an alumni of Grosse Pointe Public Schools.
I graduated from Michigan State University.
My GOALS for this year:
To get to know your student the best that I can so I can ensure they get everything they need to be successful in
school.
To help students build a love of learning.
To have you involved in your childs learning as much as possible. We are a team!
To give students what they need to meet their academic and behavior goals for the year.
To build a classroom community where students work together to make our classroom a comfortable, efficient
learning environment.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
Together, your students and I came up with a list of classroom expectations that we
should follow every single day in order to make sure we are focused on our daily goal:
learning.

L.L.R (Learn, Listen & Respect)

In order to learn, listen and respect, we need to do the following things everyday:

Be time efficient
Make safe choices
Be a good helper
Think before you do or say
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
In order to keep track of student behavior, we will use a clip chart. Here are what the colors
on the clip chart represent:
Purple: Outstanding, excellent choices. Star student!
Blue: Great effort & choices!
Green: Ready to Learn!
Yellow: Think about it
Orange: Make better choices
Red: Parent Contact
HOMEWORK
Your child will have homework almost every night
this school year!
Math homework will be sent home daily (Monday-Thursday) for the most
part.
Every Friday, your child will receive a homework packet that is due the
following Friday. The students will have the entire week to complete this
packet.
The packet will include spelling, writing and reading homework.
Make sure that your child studies his/her spelling words each night.
Students will be expected to read for at least 20 minutes each night.
Spend part of the time reading silently, and the other part reading
out loud. This will help with fluency and your child developing their
voice as a reader.
MATH
We will study many different concepts in math this year. They include:

1. Place Value; Multidigit Addition & Subtraction

2. Multiplication & Geometry
3. Fractions & Decimals
4. Multidigit Multiplication
5. Fraction & Mixed-Number Computation; Measurement
6. Division; Angles
7. Multiplication of a Fraction by a Whole Number; Measurement
8. Fraction Operations; Applications

*It is very important that students practice their Fact Fluency in Multiplication. Many concepts we will cover this year will be
much simpler if students have mastered their Multiplication Facts (0-12)
E ARTS
GUAG

Our Language Art Curriculum consists of READING,
WRITING & SPELLING.
We will also be focusing on vocabulary building throughout the
year as well.
We will use several programs for reading, writing, and spelling.

Reading is a key skill for our students, as it is used in every subject. In 4th grade,
students are continuing to learn from their reading. With that being said, make sure
they are reading every night at home.
SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE
For Social Studies and Science this year, the students will be switching classes. This will
be great practice for the upcoming years (5th grade and middle school).
