Science & Engineering Disciplinary Core Ideas Crosscutting Concept

Practice (Content)
Develop a model using How electricity effect our Cause and effect
analogy and materials. everyday life relationships are
identified, tested, and
explained.

Georgia Performance Standards

S5P2. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to investigate electricity.
a.
Obtain and combine information from multiple sources to
explain the difference between
naturally occurring electricity (static) and human
-harnessed electricity.
b. Design a complete, simple electric circuit, and explain all necessary components.
c. Plan and carry out investigations on common materials to determine if they are insulators or
conductors of electricity

Safety Considerations
The Learning Plan:

ENGAGE: Can a parallel circuit be created with 2 light bulbs?

EXPLORE: Students will go into groups to collaborate and design their circuits

EXPLAIN: Once students have created a circuit, they will add a second bulb to
their circuit

EXTEND: Students will complete their circuit and determine why their circuit
works or not. Share how each student designed his/her circuit and research how
power companies send electricity to homes.

EVALUATE: Are teams able to work together to accomplish the task at a reasonable
time.
