What is globalization?

The worldwide movement toward economic, financial, trade, and communications

integration.
Globalization implies the opening of new markets, modern technologies, better
communication between nations, and a better system for commerce trading goods
and services around the world.

Indigenous life in Mexico

Indigenous people in Mexico makes up 14% of the total population of the country,
these people have existed since long time ago, they have different dialects and live
far away from the cities, they work on farms or making art crafts, these people
worship different gods and nature is very important to them.

Indigenous communities in Mexico

The most known indigenous communities in Mexico are: Nahuas with a total
population of 2445 969, Mayas with a total population of 1475,575, Zapotecas
(777,253), Mixtecas (726,601), Otomes (646,8756), Totonacas (411,266),
Tzotziles (406,962), Tzeltales (384,074), Mazahuas (326,660), Mazatecos
(305,836), Huastecos (226,447), Choles (220,978), Purpechas (202,884), Mixes
(168,935), Tlapanecos (140,254), Tarahumaras (121,835), Mayos (91,261),
Zoques (86,589) and Chontales de Tabasco with a total population of 79,437.

The issues they face since a globalized world

Since the free trade agreement with the United States and Canada (NAFTA), many
changes have taken place in the country, one of the major changes affecting
indigenous communities, was the reform of article 27 of the Constitution, which
talks about the "ejidos" (lands where the Indians live and work), this reform
approved the privatization of these lands, forcing indigenous people to seek for
unfamiliar places to work and live.

Another issue these people have faced since globalization impact in Mexico: Is the
lack of communication with civilization, usually people living in the city have smart
phones in which they consult the news, and if there is any new law that will affect
them, they can be prepared, in contrast, indigenous communities do not have
these technological devices, and cannot have access so easily to the new, this
makes them vulnerable because if there is some phenomenon that will affect them,
they cannot be prepared and can be severely affected.

Indigenous people are very close to the nature that surrounds them, with
globalization Mexico has increased in tourism, foreign investment and farmers
practices, this caused destruction of some nature elements such as river,
mountains, valleys, farms etc... affecting this peoples culture, forcing them to
abandon this love and respect to nature.

By affecting their culture, we affect the countries culture because they are part of it
since the very beginning.

Workable solutions:

There are several international organizations that take care of the rights of these
people, and help them not to be so segregated, the UN helps by checking the
rights of these people are not being violated, and since it knows that it is very
important to conserve their culture, creates norms for their conservation.
As Mexicans, we must be aware of how important these people are to us and what
they have contributed culturally to our country. We can help them integrate into our
globalized world without losing the essence of their customs.
