INFORMATION NETWORK SECURITY AGENCY (INSA)

Introduction

GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications): It is a cellular communication standard.

Remotely the system allows the user to effectively monitor and control the house
appliances and equipment via the mobile phone set by sending commands in the form of
SMS messages and receiving the appliances status.

The messages are sent from the mobile set that contain commands in written form which are
then processed accordingly to perform the required task.

Background

The new age of technology has redefined communication. Most people nowadays have
access to mobile phones and thus the world indeed has become a global village.
Remote management of several home appliances and security of home is a subject of growing
interest. We have used the very concept to design a system that acts a platform to receive messages
which in fact are commands sent to control different appliances and devices connected to the
platform. The need to be physically present in order to control
appliances , security and safety of a certain location is eliminated with the use of our system.

Problem Statement

Theft problem now days increased.

They can now do so without their presence by the transmission of a simple text message
from their mobile phone.
This development, we believe, will ultimately save a lot of time
especially when people dont have to come back for simple things such as to turn
ON/OFF switches at their home once they set out for their respective
work.

LITERATURE REVIEW

The first machines to be operated by remote control were used mainly for military
purposes.
Radio-controlled motorboats, developed by the German navy, were used
to ram enemy ships in World War I.
Radio controlled bombs and other remote
control weapons were used in World War II.
some research such as Home Automation system and its application, Tone
recognition devices, Automatic Speech recognition, the technical detail of GSM
will be looked into as they relate to remote control systems.

The objective of this project

General objective

The home automation system control based on gsm.

Specific objective
Remotely control and monitor multiple home appliances, security and safety using a
cellular phone.
The proposed approach for designing this system is to implement a microcontroller-based
control module that receives its instructions and command from a cellular phone over the
GSM network.
To co-ordinate appliances and other devices through Short Message Service
(SMS).
To eliminate the need of being physically present in any location for tasks
involving the operation of appliances within a household and security related things.

SCOPES AND PURPOSE OF SYSTEM SPECIFICATION

The scope of the project is the implementation of finished prototype

The future implications of the project are very great considering the amount of
time and resources it saves.
The project itself can be modified to achieve a
complete Home Automation system which will then create a platform for the
user to interface between himself and the household.

Methodology

General Block diagram of the the project consists of three sections. Those are input, controller
and output sections. At first the controller section remains at waiting state for receiving a signal
from input section which includes 4 4 Keypad, humidity sensors, ultrasonic sensor and PIR
sensor.

If anyone tries to unlock the system without authority, then those sensors will activate and
controller will receive a suitable pulse. According to the pulse of input devices, the controller
section takes decision and activates the output section which includes LCD display, GSM
Module, Servo Motor, Lamp, Fan, LED and Buzzer.

Hardware required
GSM module
GSM is the most widely accepted standard in telecommunications and it is implemented
globally.
GSM operates on the mobile communication bands 900 MHz and 1800 MHz in most
parts of the world.

Humidity and temperature sensor

The DHT-22 is a digital-output, relative humidity, and temperature sensor.
It uses a capacitive humidity sensor and a thermistor to measure the surrounding air,
and sends a digital signal on the data pin.

PIR motion sensor

It allows you to sense motion.
They are used to detect whether a human has moved in or out of the sensors range.

Ultrasonic sensor

The HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor uses SONAR to determine the distance of an object.
The operation is not affected by sunlight or black material, although acoustically, soft
materials like cloth can be difficult to detect.
It comes complete with ultrasonic transmitter and receiver module.

16*2 LCD
It used for character display

SERVOMOTOR
its shaft can be positioned to specific angular positions by sending the servo a coded
signal.
As long as the coded signal exists on the input line, the servo will maintain the angular
position of the shaft.
If the coded signal changes, the angular position of the shaft changes.

KEYPAD
Although simple push switches can be used to get user input, as we have done so, this
would require 1 I/O line per switch.
Now when the keypad has been connected it is important to detect which key is being
pressed.

Pushbutton
It used as control circuit of the whole system

Buzzer
A buzzer or beeper is an audio signaling device.
Typical uses of buzzers and beepers include alarm devices .

Fan

is a device that utilizes the mechanical energy of a rotating impeller to produce both
movement of the air and an increase in its total pressure.
A fan is a rotating device that creates pressure differential that results in air movement

interfaces.

Limitations to our project

The receiver must reside in a location where a signal with sufficient strength can be
received from a cellular phone network.
Only devices with electrical controlling input ports will be possible for control

Project Issues
Project Cost
Project cost can be divided in two ways and calculated as follows;
Hardware cost
Hardware cost for our project can be considered as a moderate amount of money
spent.
It does not fall under a cheap project neither it is a relatively smaller one.
We had to disrupt sum sung j7 phone set in order to send sms that is in our hand.
Software cost
Software cost includes the cost of the required soft wares for our project.
We did not have to spend money in getting the necessary software for our project.
The software we used for our system is Arduino software and proteus8
professional and thus no money was put in it.
The cost of electricity not mention that was consumed during the project
completion time.
