CASE STUDY

Introduction

A sloping plot can be both a blessing and a curse. Once the

building is constructed, the advantage of waking up to a
stunning hillside view can be breath taking, but getting
there can be fraught with unexpected costs and difficult
decisions. The main advantage of building on a sloping plot
is the ability to take advantage of a spectacular view. The
easiest way to deal with sloped area is by cutting or
filling it, in order to make the area relatively flat. But,
theres a negative effect in using the cut and fill method.
Instead of preserving the environment, it has a negative
environmental impact to the area. And it is costly and a
lot of work to do.

The site chosen has a very stiff terrain; we should be able

to find the best way to deal with the said problem. Ones
the establishment starts its construction, errors cannot be
corrected easily; so proper and detailed planning is
recommended.

Goals and Objectives

The team should focus on creating a long term solution instead

of an easy but a weak solution

1. Eco-Friendly
a. Minimize the impact to the environment
b. To be sustainable, so that the building can endure
with less help
c. Preserve the natural contour of the land
2. Structural
a. First class materials should be specified and provided
b. Make the building strong by having a good foundation
plan
c. Ensure the Durability
3. Aesthetics
a. Aesthetically appealing
b. Use design that blends on the present surrounding
c. Use the right and appropriate design that dont
contradict to the environment
Scope and Limitation
The said site is a high and stiff terrain it is good for
our proposal due to its theme of being natural in design.
Due to the stiff terrain it will be tough to be assessing
in every structure. The team will conduct data research on
the said site for additional information. It will be very
crucial in every part of the site for building the
structure and facility. Conserving the forest is also one
top priority.

Scope
The team is entitled to do the research in the site
that will have a less environmental impact to the
nature; the whole site must be studied carefully for
best results.

Limitation
The said site has its location on the mountain side;
due to its location the slope is tremendously stiff,
though it is quite easy to solve that problem, the
main concern of the site is the protected trees that
grow on the said area.

Methodology
The researchers mainly used the internet as the reference
to this study, most of the trends worldwide are found in
the net; in order to be internationally competitive, this
method is best recommended. The choosing of the solution is
based on the detailed speculations and studies of the
researchers.

These are the main criteria that focus in this research; is

it being nature friendly? Is its durable? And is it
Sustainable? We look at the different sides of the problem;
one must not sacrifice things in order to achieve certain
thing, because it may lose its balance.

Survey is also needed in selecting the methods of

construction. The researchers argued in which would they
sacrifice, would they be totally nature friendly but
sacrificing the durability and stability of the structure;
or be particular on the foundation but giving a great harm
to the nature.
Case Study

The researchers made a research on the 2 main methods of

constructing on a sloped terrain, these methods sacrifices
certain thing in order to have an advantage on certain
parts; the selection of the method is based on the theme of
the study.

The two common construction methods

used for sloping sites are poles to
support the structure above and
retaining walls. Pole-homes are
dwellings supported by a series of
poles which raise the floor level
above that of the slope. This causes
the least disruption to the environment as the home is
partially raised above the ground, so the flora and fauna
remains undisturbed. Pole homes can be advantageous
concerning the stability of the plot as disturbing as
little of the environment as possible leave root networks
and natural drainage intact.

A structure built using the retaining wall method is quite

the opposite in terms of environmental disruption. The site
must be excavated into level platforms
which continue up the site, covering
the footprint of the new dwelling. When
building with retaining walls it is
essential to thoroughly research all
the considerations listed above to
ensure the longevity of the building.

Summary, Conclusion, and Recommendation

Since the research focuses on implementing care for the
environment, it is recommended to use the Pole Homes
method. Its an easy and comprehensive construction
procedure; and it gives an effect of being light in weight,
like the mushroom concept stated in Chapter 2. But in other
part, the stability of the structure is threatened, so
retaining wall method is also needed. Therefore it is
recommended to use both of the methods in order to balance
the advantage and disadvantage of the proposed structure.

Selective site choosing is needed in order not make a

notable destruction to the nature; the structure must be
like water that flows and takes its form due to the place
where it landed; the proposed structures must be waved.
