A Process Model to Estimate
Biodiesel Production Costs

1. Feedstock : the raw that is required for some industrial process.

2. Expenditure : the amount or manner in which something is used or consumed.

3. Emission : a substance that is emitted or released / the occurence of a flow of water ( as

from a pipe ).

4. Steady : not liable to fluctuate or especially to fall.

5. Consumption : the act of consuming something.

6. Assessment : a facility composed of one more pieces of equipment connected to or part of a

structure and designed to provide a service such as heat or electricity or water or sewage
disposal.

7. Bleaching Clay : an adsorbent clay that will remove colouring from oils.

8. Parameter : a quantity ( such as the mean or variance ) that characterizes a statical

population and that can be estimated by calculations from sample data.

9. Storage Tanks : a large ( usually metallic ) vessel for holding gases or liquids.

10. Downstream : away from the source or with the current.

11. Dryer : an appliance that removes moisture.

12. Flowsheet : a diagram of the sequence of operations in consumption system.

13. Reboiler : sealed vessel where water is converted to steam.

14. Overall : including everything.

15. Subsequent : following in time or order.

16. Aqueous : similiar to, containing or dissolved in water / ( geology ) produced by the action of
water.

17. Refined : freed from impurities by processing.

18. Conversion : a change in the units or form of an expression.

19. Agricultures : a large-scale farming enterprise.

20. Reagent : a chemical agent for use in chemical reactions.

21. Catalyst : a substance that initiates or accelerates a chemical reaction without itself being
affected.

22. Renewable Energy : energy generated without using up limited resources such as fossil
fuels.

23. Substantial : having a firm basis in reality and being therefore important, meaningful, or
considerable.

24. Crushing : use force to compress, making out of normal shape or condition.

25. Fatty acid : any of a class of aliphatic monocarboxylic acids that form part of lipid molecule
and can be derived from fat by hydrolisis.

26. Oilseed : any of several seeds that yield oil.

27. Synthesis : the process of producing a chemical compound ( usually by the union of simpler
chemical compounds ).

28. Heat Exchanger : device that transfers heat from one liquid to another without allowing
them to mix.

29. Purification : the process of removing impurities ( as from oil, metals or sugar etc. )

30. Separator : an apparatus that uses centrifugal force to separate particles from suspension.

31. Tendencies : a characteristic likelihood of or natural disposition toward a certain condition

or character or effect.
32. Emulsifier : a surface-active agent that promotes the formation of an emulsion.

33. Vacuum : a region that is devoid of matter.

34. Centrifuge : rotate at very high speed in order to separate the liquids from the solids.

35. Ester : formed by reaction between an acid and an alcohol with elimination of water.

36. Distillation : a purified liquid produced by condensation from a vapour during distilling.

37. Current : a steady flow of a fluid ( usually from natural causes ).

38. Dehydration : the process of extracting moisture.

39. Moisture : wetness caused by water.

40. Evaporator : a piece of equipment used to evaporate the solvent from a solution.

41. Dilute : reduced in strength, concentration, quality or purity.

42. Condenser : an apparatus that converts vapour into liquid.

43. Reactor : a container to hold chemicals undergoing a chemical reaction.

44. Reactant : a chemical substance that is present at the start of a chemical reaction.

45. Neutralized : make chemically neutral.

46. Treatment : care provided to improve a situation.

47. Recycle : use again after processing.

48. Mixer : electronic equipment that mixes two or more input signals to give a single output
signals.

49. Greased : a thick fatty oil (especially one used to lubricate machinery ).

50. Biodiesel : a liquid fuel made from vegetable ( or similiar ) oils that can be used in a mixture
with, or substitute for, diesel fuel.
