UNDERSTAND AND TO BE SUCCESSFUL AT COLLEGE

Education often looks like competition. People compete for interest in school, for
grades when they're in school, and for jobs when they leave school. Today, the college,
beside universities, has been understood to be a place to continue education after finishing
high school. College, an institution of higher education created to educate and grant
degrees, is an important part of the education system. Having a college degree has become
a prerequisite for many professions and without one we may not even get in the door at
many corporations. However, only college degree with honorable high scores can bring
someone to honored success.
The more prepared you are for college when you get there; the more ready you'll be
to confront any new pressures. The education you receive in college, and the attitudes you
develop, will guide you for the rest of your life. Your grades will be especially important in
landing your first job, or when applying to graduate school. To be a successful student
requires certain skills; but, these are skills that can be learned.
College classes or courses are a great deal more difficult than high school classes.
They are at a higher level than high-school classes and the material is presented at a faster
pace. There are more reading assignments, and the exams and papers cover a greater
amount of material. Lecturers expect you to do more work outside the classroom. Plus, they
are likely to assign more reading, writing, home works, tasks, projects, and problem sets
than you may be used to. In order to survive, you must take responsibility for your actions.
This means you must do the initiating, need to follow the course outlines, and keep up with
the readings.
You start college with a clean academic slate, along with a lot of independence and
numerous of vital decisions as you begin the transition into adulthood. The first few weeks
on campus are challenging and extremely crucial for all new students. It is during this time
that you make critical decisions and actions that will have a major impact on the rest of your
college experience and on the rest of your life. Success in college takes more than brains --
it takes time and mature strategy.
There are many effective ways in order to excel in college. A good grade in a course
is almost never the result of luck. College work requires a lot of independent learning.
Human beings are creatures of habit. Therefore, form a habit of doing what you reason you
should do. The past does not equal the future. It means those poor study habits such as
being late, missing classes, not completing assignments, staying up too late before your
next class, etc. shouldnt be repeated in the future. Establish priorities in your study habits
by managing your valuable time correctly.
Only you can change the future to achieve more success and productivity. Overall,
there is one basic trait that distinguishes successful students from those that are not:
Successful students force themselves to understand. They do not believe the actions of
attending classes, reading the texts, and doing the home works are sufficient. Rather, they
are continually asking, "Do I really understand what's going on here?" They ask this question
of themselves honestly, applying an internal barometer formed from experience to detect
the slightest lack of understanding, be it ignorance or confusion. And, if the answer is "No",
then the situation is viewed as unacceptable, and more effort is the response. That way,
students can meet with great success.
