SUSTAINABILITY

1. How does the government assure that every citizen in a city becomes digitally literate? How
can every citizen access basic services such as being able to apply for Aadhar card, pan number,
and do a bank transaction? What kind of business models can be embraced to make this a
reality?

For Digital literacy: Mobile penetration + Promote basic trainings (Regionally) by volunteers
and private organizations are the primary drivers for digital literacy.
Government should bond with Indian manufacturing company and produce low cost
smartphones targeting the rural people.
Market research: For Digital literacy to boom the need of the users play a very vital role, hence
exhaustive research needs to be carried out.
Genuine lucky draw by gamification technique: Government should have separate fund for the
winners. In India people are driven by offers and knowing the genuineness of offer the
uninterested would also take part. Using word of mouth also the campaign could be spread out
and every citizen could be covered by implementing ideas on similar lines.

2. How can Cloud be embraced to have better governance for cleanliness, managing
traffic/transportation, healthcare challenges? How can Cloud technologies become the
backbone for launching solutions in making cities smart?

Cleanliness:
Cloud would enable the managers to be on track with the collections done.
Empowering the citizens to use mobile app to schedule cleanliness process so that instead of
driver hopping to places randomly will go to exact locations where the cleaning is required.
Also the drivers can keep a track of other driver in duties so in case they default then the
driver can re-route and collect the garbage.
Schedule pick-up of big items would also enable citizens to not litter their products in free-
ways causing vehicles or humans to stop on their way.

Traffic/transportation:
Using IOT, big data analysis Traffic/transportation problem could be mitigated. IOT devices
could be integrated with mobile internet which could enable sync between vehicles, people
driving and the traffic units with Radio-frequency identification (RFID) and Wireless Sensor
Networks.
With the perfect usage of Radio-frequency identification (RFID) and wireless sensor
networks real time data of vehicles could be acquired and traffic could be predicted as well.
Traffic service would be more intelligent and humanized.

Healthcare challenges:
Huge amount of data is created with healthcare IOT devices and this info. Is required to
analyse and come to conclusion to help future patients. Advanced healthcare could be
provided using big data analytics, cognitive computing, mobile collaboration and information
exchange to accelerate the delivery of information.

The above empowers all the human resources involved in the process to perform their task
effectively.
Cloud can become backbone by partnering with strong industrial players like IBM and
deloittee, researchers and IOT specialists along with SMEs in this matter to help in creating
solutions.
Collaboration is critical
The primary key would be wrt. Security and authentication aspect where IBM cloud has
already excelled and similar organization should be selected.
Then pilot project should be created to test run and validate the project.
Finally create a roadmap by creating business models and identify user driven innovations for
the growth of the initiative as Citizen engagement and activism are shaping the thinking of
cities.
