Textbook:
Algebra 2, Glencoe-McGraw Hill

Course Goals:
To improve your algebra skills so that you will be successful in Intermediate College Algebra or other
college level math courses.
To feel comfortable working with mathematics and technology
To apply your mathematics skills to real world applications

Supplies:
Graphing Calculator (TI-83 or TI-84 series)
Folder & notebook or 3-ring binder
Loose-leaf paper for homework
Pencils and pens for correcting
Graph paper
2 thick line white board markers (to leave in classroom)
Book cover

Notes:
You are required to keep a spiral notebook that will include all class notes.
Class notes must be taken every day. You will need to refer back to them in order to do your
homework.
Neatness and organization are necessities.

Homework:
Homework will be given on a daily basis. It will be discussed and evaluated the day it is due. If an
assignment is not available for the teacher to check, or not handed in the day it is due, it will be
considered late. The discussion and questions during our daily homework review allow students to make
corrections, clarify understanding, and learn from mistakes.

Most homework will be given a point value as follows:

3 points = Every problem has visible signs that it was attempted. Work is shown to convince me that the
answers were thought out and not copied. Homework is complete, legible, and has work shown. A ll
graphs done on graph paper following graph standards.
2-2.5 points = More than but less than all of the homework problems meet the above criteria.
1-1.5 points = Less than but more than of the homework problems meet the above criteria.
0 points = Less than of the problems meet the criteria above and/or work was done in ink or too sloppy.

17/18
All problems must be copied down, including diagrams. A ll work must be shown even when using a
calculator. Assignments are due at the time we correct and collect in class. Late assignments will
receive partial credit.

Absences:
If you have an excused absence the day an assignment is given, you have as many days to make up
the assignment as you were gone.
Homework due the day of your absence must be handed in the day you return. If you know that you will
miss class for a field trip, sports, etc., it is recommended that you get assignments ahead of time or
from classmates in order to keep up with the class.
It is your responsibility to get the correct assignments, class notes, borrow and use answer keys to
correct homework, complete activities, and get help with your assignments when you miss class. It may
be necessary for you to stay after class or come in before or after school and work with me or one of
the other Algebra 2 teachers. Help is available, but you must seek it out in a timely fashion!
BE PREPARED! If you are absent the day before a quiz/test, you will be required to take the quiz/test
with the class if no new material was covered the day of your absence.
Check my website to know whats been covered when you were gone and what will be going on in
class when you return.

Grades:
Assignments, quizzes, tests, in-class activities, and other work done in or for class have point value.
Term grades are calculated as follows: Homework 25%, Quizzes 25%, Tests 50%.
Semester grades are also category weighted as stated. Semester exams count for 15% of the final
semester grade.
One regular quiz grade is dropped for every three quizzes provided you have taken all of them. This will
start over each semester.
An unexcused absence will result in a zero for the work, quiz, or test for that day.
Grades are NOT rounded for the term. Therefore, an 89.84% is a "B+". Semester grades are rounded
so an overall average for the semester of 89.84% would round to a 90 and receive "A-" on the transcript
for the semester.

Extra Help: All Algebra 2 teachers are available after school on most days.

Retake Opportunity: If you receive less than a 70% on a test, you will be given the opportunity to raise your
score by coming in after school to receive additional help and taking portions of an alternate version of the
assessment. It is expected that you completed the unit review for the unit test prior to completing retake.

Requirements:
This policy is for unit tests only, NOT quizzes, mini-quizzes, projects, exams, etc.
You must come in two different days for this opportunity. The first time will be a minimum of 25 minutes
after school to receive extra help on topics you missed and to go through your errors on the first test.
The second time will be to take a second version of the assessment.
Taking advantage of the retake option will earn you up to a 70% on the assessment. Your original test
score will never decrease.
Remember: keeping your grade above a D+ will keep you out of Resource!
Your individual teacher will set a deadline for each units retake to be completed.

Taking advantage of this opportunity is to your benefit, and is completely in your hands.

17/18
Cheating/Academic Misconduct: Any instances of cheating including (but not limited to) copying others
work, allowing someone to copy your work, talking during tests/quizzes, sharing information during tests
or quizzes or with students who havent yet taken the test/quiz, using a calculator on a non-calculator
section, using notes or having notes in your calculator will result in the steps outlined in the district
academic misconduct policy. Be familiar with the policy.

Unless specifically stated by the teacher in writing all work turned in, for credit, is to be authentic (done by
YOU) not copied from a partner because you worked together. Work cannot be recycled from previous
classes or assignments. All work should be individual, therefore, sharing of any Google Docs or part thereof is
not permitted.

In addition, unless specifically stated by the teacher in writing, all work turned in is to be completed entirely
by you. This means that unless the assignment asks you to consult sources, you are not allowed to do so. This
includes using any form of published online notes, websites, essays, or other resources, including people other
than your teacher. Even if you put these materials into your own words, your act of consulting resources when
you are not allowed to do so is cheating. If sources are permitted to be used on an assignment, all material
used MUST be properly cited. This includes material that you rephrase as well as material that you quote.

Suggestions for students:

You have the responsibility to do your work and meet homework and project deadlines. Use your
textbook and ConnectEd as reference resources. Do warm-ups and homework to the best of your
ability, completely and on time.
Regularly check your grades in PowerSchool.
Be an ACTIVE participant in class. It goes faster and you will understand more.
PREPARE for tests and quizzes. Start studying and reviewing a few days before the test/quiz, not just
the night before.
ASK questions if something is not clear.
Come in for help when you need it- let me know ahead of time or stop in and see if I am available.
Form study groups to meet regularly outside of class and/or consider getting a tutor.
Do your own work. It is likely that less than your full effort on daily homework will earn less than full
credit.
Sleeping in class is not allowed. We have way too much to learn for you to sleep through class.
