AN ADVERB is a word that describes a verb, telling us how something is done.

It adds more information about the


place, the time, and the circumstances of an action. AN ADVERB can also modify an adjective. In this case the adverb
stays before the adjective.

She speaks English fluently.

ADVERB FORMATION SPELLING RULES

Most adverbs are formed by adding the - ly ending to an adjective: 1. Adjectives ending in le change to ly:
beautiful / beautifully lucky / luckily
possible / possibly
However, there are a few adverbs which have the same form as the
adjective. We identify them according to the context in which they are
used. If they modify a noun, they are adjectives. If they modify a verb, 2. Adjectives ending in y change to ily:
they are adverbs:
happy / happily

fast driver / drive fast daily news / work daily

3. Adjectives ending in ic change to ically:


The adverb form of the adjective GOOD is WELL. It is not
correct to say:
I can swim good.
but

TYPES OF ADVERBS
ADVERBS OF MANNER give us information on HOW someone does something.
There are five main types of adverbs: They answer to the question HOW? :
e.g.: He speaks French correctly.
1. Adverbs of manner
ADVERBS OF TIME give us information on WHEN something happens. They

ADVERBS OF DEGREE give us information on HOW MUCH of something is

The answers for exercise 5 can be different. These are only my suggestions. For example, depending on the context,
frankly could be both an adverb of comment or an adverb of manner:
