CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

1.1 Introduction

- Rationale of the Study

- Historical Background of the Problem
- The existence of an unsatisfactory condition, a felt problem that needs a solution
- A desire to have a deeper and clearer understanding of a situation, circumstances, or
phenomenon
- A desire to find a better way of doing something or of improving a product/system
- A desire to discover something
- Geographical condition of the study locale
- Presentation of the Problem
- A link between the introduction and the statement of the problem

1.2 Background of the Study

The background of the study is the story of your research. In this portion, you give a narrative

of the research.

It is suggested that you use an inverted triangle approach in the story telling, starting with a

general overview and moving on to the specifics. You should be generous in your citations because

it lends credence to your work. You should specifically cite statements of facts to support your

arguments.

It is suggested that you give the statement of the problem at the end of the background. The

solution to the problem would be identified in the next section.

- Brief statement of the origin of the problem

- Account describing the circumstances which suggested the research
- It may include a justification of the selection or choice of the study
2

1.3 Statement of the Problem / Objectives of the Study

- General and Specific

- Specified what the researcher is trying to find out or discover
- Clear
- Adequate
- Precise
- Major Problem
- Sub Problems

Start with the main problem of the research.

The specific problems follow, using colon at the end:

a. ;

b. ;

c.

Next with the general objective of the research. The general objective should provide the

answer to the problem just stated above. In a way, the general objective is a restatement of the title

of the research.

The specific objectives follow, using a colon at the end:

a. The specific objectives must be measurable;

b. They should have a one-to-one correspondence to the conclusions you will make in

Chapter 5.

1.4 Significance of the Study

Insert the significance of the study. Be exhaustive. You may not include the significance of

the study to you as a student.

3

- Value to _______ (mention the sector that will be benefiting from the study)
- Value to the researcher
- Impact to the field specialization
- others

1.5 Scope and Delimitations

Insert the scope and delimitations here.

- Who
- What
- When
- Where
- Why
- How
- Sets the parameters that should be included and may specify what are excluded

CHAPTER 2

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

2.1 Review of Related Literature and Studies

For the review of related literature, make sure to touch on the most important aspects of your

study. Use a topical outline. In your style of discussion, be sure to adopt a storyline. Do not forget

to cite all statements of facts, main ideas/trends, equations, findings, etc. Use APA format for the

citation. As much as possible, use most recent journal articles. Use books sparingly. And no

Wikipedia, please!

For tables, use the following format:

Indent the Table label to start of Only the table number is capitalized.,

automatically generated the table number

2.2 Research Paradigm

- Research Paradigm

- Discussion of the paradigm

5

- Theoretical Framework justifies the rationale of the study

- Cites the theory/ies on which the study is premised in order to establish the relationship

among the variables of the study

- Presentation of the paradigm to explain how the theory/ies is/are going to be

operationalized in the study

Figure should be centered. The List of Figures must be

aromatically generated.

Figure 0-1. From "References" > Insert caption > Figure

Provide a conceptual framework in the form of a single diagram which should show all the

aspects of the study. Provide a description of the framework after the diagram.

2.3 Hypothesis

- Test of hypothesis

2.4 Assumptions

- If necessary
6

2.5 Definition of Terms

- Operational definition
- Words to be defined will be bold
- Arrange the terms alphabetically
- Brief introduction for terms that are contextually or operationally defined
- Minimum terms to be defined: 15 terms
- Spell out acronyms and abbreviations

Word 1 Definition for Word 1

Word 2 Definition for Word 2

CHAPTER 3

METHODOLOGY

3.1 Research Design

The research design used in this study is a combination of descriptive and survey research.
Observing the employees on how they work normally on their respective work environment and using
questionaries and scheduling personal interviews in order to analyze every employees experience
on working under the house keeping department at the Bayview Park Hotel.

3.2 Research Locale

Bayview Park Hotel 1118 Roxas Boulevard, corner United Nations Avenue, Ermita,

Manila, 1000 Metro Manila

3.3 Sources of Data

Manager Mr. Ronald G. Adviento and employees under of the Housekeeping department at

the Bayview Park Hotel and

- Secondary source such as books, articles published in journals, unpublished writers thesis and

dissertations, etc.

Indicate the source of the data, type of data, year of acquisition, and other pertinent details.
8

3.4 Procedure

Providing questionnaires for every employee under the house keeping department at

Bayview Park Hotel and tabulating the data and results obtained

Scheduling personal interviews and Documenting the employees by observing them and

using cameras and other recording devices for the data to be analyzed more properly.

3.5 Research Instruments

- Questionnaire

- Interview

- Cameras

- Observations

- Documents

- Personality Test

3.6 Data Gathering Instrument

9

- Description of the adoption, construction, and administration of instruments

- Instruments include tests, questioners, interview guides and/or schedules, etc. apparatus, devices,

and laboratory equipment used.

3.7 Statistical Techniques Used

- Descriptive statistics such as measures of central tendency and variability, coefficient of correlation,

etc.

Inferential statistics such as Parametric and Non-parametric tests

CHAPTER 4

PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS, AND INTERPRETATION

4.1

PRESENTATION OF SUBPROBLEM NO. 1

Name the phases of your study and give the results. Have as many headings as necessary

depending on the number of experiments or studies you did. Provide the discussions.

o Tabulated data

Interpretation

(Same pattern up to the last subproblem)

11

CHAPTER 5

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

5.1 Summary of Findings

Provide a rather concise summary of the research work.

- The data are adequate, valid and reliable

- Data are analyzed carefully and correctly treated statistically

- Data are interpreted correctly and adequately

5.2 Conclusions

The conclusions are direct statements that would prove the achievement of the specific

objectives. The conclusions should have one-to-one correspondence to the specific objectives, i.e.

if you have 4 specific objectives (a to d) then you should have 4 conclusions (1 to 4).

- Conclusions are based upon the findings

- Answer the specific and general problems/objectives

- Concise

- Clear

- Limited only to the subject of the study

5.3 Recommendations
12

- Based upon the findings and conclusions

- Feasible, practical, attainable

- Action-oriented

- Limited only to the subject of the study but recommend further research on the same subject

(Same pattern shall be observed on all subproblems. Where needed, implications of the

study should be involved.)
