Design. The desig n of a pole also determines how it

stands up to wind. Weyerhaeuser Company poles are
designed to resist 100 m.p.h. winds inciuding a I.3 gust
ft
f actor. That's the equivalent of a steady 77 m.p.h. wind.

And many crossarms and luminaire combinations are

rated for even heavier wind loadlng. I
Treatment. J. H. Baxter & Company treats our poles with
pentachlorophenol in liqhi hydrocarbon solvents. From
one end to the oiher. lt protects wood from decay and
insect damage. And to insure nraximum penetration and
retention of the preservative, ihe butt of each pole is in-

Advantages. The lamination ot wood allows different

growth characteristics to be combined. And that makes
the finished product significantly stronger than a sing le, Two-way

Curved Poles,/lnstal lation Methods
Curved poles are available in above-ground heights
from 12'to 20'. A stiftener ot 1%"x 31/r" is g lued on the c D

spacer between paired poles.

INSTALLATION METHODS
Weyerhaeuser Lighting poles may be ernbedded directly
into firm soil under normal load conditlons. But under
heavy load, or in poor soil conditions, concrete ernbed-
ding may be required.

The raceway access hole for underground wiring is cen-

tered 2 '6" below the ground line and rises 30o lo vertical
for use where underground splicing is permitted. Above
ground junction boxes of various types can be used.

The ground line is marked on each standard at correct

depth Jor embedding in soil or concrete. Poles are
branded just above the g rou nd line with a W (represent-
ing Weyerhaeuser Company) and date of manufacture.
