Sacrament of Reconciliation
Penitent: Greetings
Penitent makes the sign of the cross saying: Bless me
father, for I have sinned. My last confession was
Priest: May the Lord be in your heart and help you to
confess your sins with true contrition.
Penitent: "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love
you." (John 21:17)
Penitent: Confesses sins
Penitent: (at the end of their confession)
"I am sorry for these and all of my sins."
Priest: Offers counsel and assigns penance
Penitent: (Act of Contrition) "My God, I am heartily sorry
for those times I have fallen short. I know that I can do
better and I promise you our relationship is important to
me. I offer myself in reconciliation and ask your help,
through your grace, to do and be better and to avoid that
which leads me astray."
Priest: (Offers Absolution) "God of mercy, through the
death and resurrection of the Christ has reconciled the
world and has sent the Holy Spirit among us for the
forgiveness of sins; through the ministry of the Church
may God give you pardon and peace, and I absolve you
from your sins in the name of the Father/Creator, and the
Son/Redeemer, + and of the Holy Spirit/Sanctifier."
Priest: "Go in peace to love and serve the Lord"
