The greatest gift we can offer God is our daily lives.
CONSIDER: Consider the offerings you give to God. Do you give offerings of
time and talent as well as your finances?
TUESDAY: Romans 12:1-2,9-21 Focus Inward or Outward
We are easily influenced by the world around us. When we focus on the outside
world rather than on God, our focus is in the wrong direction.
REFLECTION: Reflect on the influence that culture has on your life. What
adjustments need to be made in your life to focus first and foremost on God?
WEDNESDAY: Romans 12:1-2,9-21 The Best You Can Be
God works within us to shape and direct us. When we allow God to shape our
lives, we become more complete and focused individuals.
QUESTION: What needs to happen in your life to be a more mature Christian?
THURSDAY: Romans 12:1-2,9-21 Honest Love
Scripture says to Love from the center of who you are; Reaching deep within
ourselves to love honestly requires the ability to lay aside prejudice and
judgment.
REFLECTION: Reflect on a time when you were challenged to lay aside an
existing belief or practice in order to show love.
FRIDAY: Romans 12:1-2,9-21 Together
Reaching out to others and living a life of service takes physical, emotional,
and spiritual energy. In order to serve, we must find ways to renew our
strength. We must reach inward toward God and outward toward others.
QUESTIONS: What spiritual practices do you use to renew your spiritual flame?
How do the lives and faith of others deepen your own faith?
SATURDAY: Romans 12:1-2,9-21 A Work in Progress
This passage ends with very definite instructions: Dont hit back or try to get
even; discover beauty in everyone; get along with everybody; feed your enemy;
dont let evil get the better of you. These are difficult things to accomplish.
Thankfully, God understands that each of us is a work in progress.
PRAYER: Guide us dear God on our path. Help us to reach for you and for each
other to learn and enrich our lives. Help us on our journey to honor and care
for others as you honor and care for us.

Say Yes - August 27th
Scripture: Romans 12:1-2,9-21 (MSG)
So heres what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary
lifeyour sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around lifeand place
it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best
thing you can do for him. Dont become so well-adjusted to your culture that
you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. Youll
be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you,
and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you
down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-
formed maturity in you.
Love from the center of who you are; dont fake it. Run for dear life from
evil; hold on for dear life to good. Be good friends who love deeply; practice
playing second fiddle.
Dont burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the
Master, cheerfully expectant. Dont quit in hard times; pray all the harder.
Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality.
Bless your enemies; no cursing under your breath. Laugh with your happy
friends when theyre happy; share tears when theyre down. Get along with
each other; dont be stuck-up. Make friends with nobodies; dont be the great
somebody.
Dont hit back; discover beauty in everyone. If youve got it in you, get along
with everybody. Dont insist on getting even; thats not for you to do. Ill do
the judging, says God. Ill take care of it.
Our Scriptures tell us that if you see your enemy hungry, go buy that person
lunch, or if hes thirsty, get him a drink. Your generosity will surprise him with
goodness. Dont let evil get the best of you; get the best of evil by doing good.
