LOCATION : SPRAY WATER
BALIKPAPAN CALCULATION 3 of 4

2 A. Basis for calculation :

4 1. Aplication rate : 10.2 liter/ m.m2 [note 1]

5 2. Operation Time : 60 minutes for tank

8 4. Tank Data
Type : Fixed Cone With Internal Floating Roof
Content : Fatty Acid Methyl Esther (FAME)
Diameter : 41.69 m
Height : 14.98 m
9 5. Imbalance factor : 120%
10

11 B. Fire Scenario :
13 1. HVGO Tank on fire
14 In case of HVGO Tank is on fire, then ADO Tank will be exposed by heat radiation from HVGO Tank. Hence, the shell area and
roof top surface area of ADO Tank which are facing HVGO Tank is cooled by water spray.

15 C. Calculation :
17 I. Surface Area to be Protected
18 Surface Area for Tank's Shell = 131 x 14.98 = 1962 m2
19 Surface Area for Tank's Roof (Cone) = rs = 1367.73 m2
20 Total Surface Area = 3329.71 m2
21

32 II. Minimum Firewater Demand

33 ADO Tank Shell and Roof Surface to be protected = 0.5 unit
33 Firewater Demand (Minimum) = 20378 liter per minute = 5383 gpm
33 Firewater Demand for 60 mins (Minimum) = 1222667.7 liter

III. Spray Nozzle & Actual Firewater Demand Calculation [note 2]

Nozzle pressure = 50.8 psi
Orifice Size = 0.5
K-Factor = 7.2 gpm/(psi)0.5
Flowrate per nozzle (Kfactor x sqrt(nozzle pressure)) = 51.3 gpm
0 = 105 nozzle
0 = 210 nozzle
Distance from tank shell to nozzle tip = 1.0 m
Spray Angle = 160o
Nozzle coverage diameter (a) = 4 m
Overlapped check each nozzle (for tank shell)
Nozzle quantity at each ring (tank shell) = 62 nozzle (assumed 2 rings)
Ring circumference = 124.7 m
Nozzle spacing (b) = 2.0 m
Since nozzle spacing (b) is less than nozzle coverage diameter(b), so the nozzle quantity is adequate and fulfilled overlapped spray
requirement horizontally

0 = 86.0 nozzle
Actual Firewater Demand = 5386.2 gpm

10

11 B. Fire Scenario :
13 1. RFO U.13 on fire
14 In case of RFO U.13 Tank is on fire, then RFO Tank U.14 Tank will be exposed by heat radiation from RFO U.13 Tank. Hence, the shell area and
roof top surface area of RFO U.14 Tank which are facing RFO U.13 Tank is cooled by water spray.

15 C. Calculation :
17 I. Surface Area to be Protected
18 Surface Area for Tank's Shell = 75 x 12.8 = 965.097 m2
19 Surface Area for Tank's Roof (Dome) = 2rh = 472.11 m2
20 Total Surface Area = 1437.21 m2

32 II. Minimum Firewater Demand

33 ADO Tank Shell and Roof Surface to be protected = 0.5 unit
33 Firewater Demand (Minimum) = 8795.71 liter per minute = 2324 gpm
33 Firewater Demand for 60 mins (Minimum) = 527742.5 liter

III. Spray Nozzle & Actual Firewater Demand Calculation [note 2]

Nozzle pressure = 50.8 psi

Overlapped check each nozzle (for tank shell)
0 = 31 nozzle (assumed 2 rings)
Ring circumference = 69.1 m
33 Nozzle spacing (b) = 2.2 m
Since nozzle spacing (b) is less than nozzle coverage diameter(b), so the nozzle quantity is adequate and fulfilled overlapped spray
requirement horizontally

0 = 30 nozzle
Actual Firewater Demand = 2360 gpm
