THE BYLAWS OF THE GAMMA EPSILON CHAPTER

LOS MEDANOS COLLEGE

Fall 2016
*Please note the officers of FALL 2016REVISION*
chapter have revised these bylaws. Adjustments have
been made regarding new officer positions, community service agreements, midsemester
officer replacement, disciplinary referral system, and subcommittees that are to be
accessible to officers, club advisors, or anyone of interest.
ARTICLE I NAME OF CHAPTER
Section 1. The official name of the Los Medanos College chapter of Alpha Gamma Sigma
shall be the Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Gamma Sigma
Section 2. The organization may be referred to on the Los Medanos College campus as
Alpha Gamma Sigma or by its initials AGS. At AGS State Conventions,
Northern Regional Conferences and AGS State Advisory Board meetings, the
chapter may be referred to as Gamma Epsilon Chapter OR Los Medanos
College Chapter. In the community the preferred name shall be Los Medanos
College Chapter of the Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society.
ARTICLE II MISSION AND PURPOSE
The purpose of this Gamma Epsilon chapter of the Alpha Gamma Sigma Honors Society is to
foster, promote, maintain and recognize academic excellence within our fellow college
community. The Gamma Epsilon chapter will encourage and develop programs offering
cultural, social, and enrichment experiences through the service to Los Medanos College and
our local communities.
ARTICLE III MEMBERSHIP
Section 1. INITIAL MEMBERSHIP:
A person may attain initial membership by completing 12 semester units or 18
quarter units at any recognized college institution OR facility of higher
education while having a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least
3.00. Units completed two years or more prior to applying for membership
shall not be used to determine eligibility.
Section 2. TEMPORARY MEMBERSHIP:

All life members of the California Scholarship Federation and those who have
graduated high school with a minimum GPA of 3.50 are invited to become
temporary members during their first semester at LMC and shall have, upon
payment of dues, all the privileges of membership except that of holding state
elective office.
a) Initial applicants from high school must submit proof of GPA within
their applications.
Section 3. CONTINUING MEMBERSHIP:
An initial or temporary member may obtain Continuing Membership during
their following semester by maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better in
courses of recognized college coursework and be enrolled in at least 6 units at
Los Medanos College.
a) Continuing Members whose cumulative GPA falls below 3.00 shall be
put under a one semester probation status. Continuing Members
whose cumulative GPA falls below 3.00 for two consecutive semesters
will be ineligible to reapply for membership.
b) Members under probation are not eligible to serve on the AGS officer
board.
Section 4. PERMANENT MEMBERSHIP*:
Chapter members may apply for permanent membership during the semester
in which they complete a minimum of 60 graded semester units in degree
appropriate courses, with at least half of the units completed at a community
college. Applicants with as few as 54 degree appropriate semester units may
be eligible for permanent membership provided they have enough units
graded CR or P to make up the required total.
*Applicants must also meet the requirements of paragraphs "a" or "b" below:
a) The applicant has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better in all
recognized college work and has been a member of AGS for at least
one semester.
b) The applicant has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better in all
recognized college work and has been a member of AGS for at least
two semesters.
c) In determining eligibility, units are to be counted beginning with the
most recently completed first, then going backwards chronologically
until the necessary number of units needed is reached. All units in
graded courses on any intervening transcripts must also be entered into
the calculation of the GPA. If any units from a semester are used to
establish eligibility, all units from that semester must be included in
computing the GPA.
d) Any courses completed two or more years prior to submitting an
application for Permanent Membership, whether at a community
college or other institution, shall not be used to prevent any person
from becoming a Permanent Member, provided that those units are
not being used to meet the minimum unit requirement.
e) Permanent Membership is not granted automatically. Members must
apply for Permanent Membership through the advisor(s) who
determines the eligibility of the applicants. If approved, becomes
effective the following semester.
Section 5. All qualified applicants for membership shall submit a completed membership
application form to the chapter's advisor at the beginning of each semester.
Members shall attach a copy of their latest transcripts, or other documentation
verifying their current cumulative GPA, as well as a copy of their current class
schedule along with their application prior to submission. Only currently
registered students, faculty, and staff may be active members in a registered
student organization. Only active members may vote or hold office.
Section 6. All members shall pay membership dues each semester. Any change to the
amount of the membership dues shall be determined by the Executive
Board, described in [Article XI The Executive Board], and must be approved
by the general members by a 2/3 vote.
Section 7. All members shall be required to meet the service point criteria as set forth in
[Article XIII Service Points].
Section 8. Students whose academic standing qualifies them for Initial Membership,
Temporary Membership or Continuing Membership, and who have applied
for membership, paid membership dues, and participated in chapter activities,
shall be considered Voting Members.
Section 9. An Active Member is defined as anyone who has completed their application,
payed their membership dues, and completed their service point requirements
as set forth in [Article XIII Service Points].
a) For an Initial Member or Continuing Member to be considered
Active Member they MUST complete the 100 service point
requirement by the semester deadline.
b) For Permanent Members to be considered Active Members they
must complete their 30 service point requirement by the semester
deadline.
Section 10. Membership dues are nonrefundable; specifically in the case of not fulfilling
the minimum service point requirements listed in [Article XIII Service Points].
Section 11. No one shall be denied membership because of race, sex, gender identity,
sexual orientation, ethnicity or national origin, religion, age, genetic
disposition, status as disabled, or status as a disabled veteran.
Section 12. Alpha Gamma Sigma shall NOT practice any hazing traditions.
(Hazing is the imposition of strenuous, often humiliating tasks as part of a
program of rigorous physical training and initiation.)
We will not haze according to California State Law; we will not restrict
membership based upon race, color, national origin, religion, sex, physical and
mental disability, medical condition, ancestry, marital status, age, sexual
orientation, citizenship or status as a covered veteran (special disabled veteran,
Vietnamera veteran or any other veteran who served on active duty during a
war or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been
authorized).

ARTICLE IV OFFICERS
The elected officers of Gamma Epsilon Chapter shall be the President, Vice President,
Secretary, Treasurer, InterClub Ambassador, AGS State Project
Director,
Publicity/Social Ambassador, Fundraising Director, Outreach Director, Historian, and
Web Administrator.
Section 1. The Executive Board, described in [Article XI The Executive Board], shall
hold elections at the end of each Spring semester when the positions term
comes to an end. The Executive Board, shall be elected by the chapters
current AGS general members and officers, for that Spring semester, through
an online ballot. This ballot will be open to those Spring semester members
only and will be open for a twoweek period near the end of that Spring
semester. If the persons membership status/eligibility allows, he/she may run
for an Executive Board position and write a 12 paragraph statement that will
appear on the online ballot to be voted on by the AGS members.
Section 2. The remaining officer positions (those other than the Executive Board) will
be made available during the following Fall semester. The positions will be
established by the third general meeting of that Fall semester. For a member to
be qualified to run for an E xecuti ve Board position, they must have
served and completed the previous Spring semester with AGS as an Active
Member. Until the positions are filled the Executive Board will take up the
responsibilities of the unfilled officer positions.
Section 3. Newly elected officers of the Executive Board shall take office immediately
following the Spring semester election for training. If, for any reason,
nominations and elections for the Executive Board are not held during the
end of the Spring Semester, both nominations and elections shall be held at
the first general meeting of the following Fall Semester. In such a case, an
interim committee chosen by the advisor(s) from the previous semester's
membership shall have the authority to act as the Executive Board and take
up the chapter's duties during either the Summer after Spring elections or until
elections are held. During formal elections, if no person has run for an officer
position(s), the current Executive Board may appoint members to the vacant
officer position(s).
Section 4. Elected officers shall not resign without providing written notice to the
Executive Board and advisor(s) at least two weeks prior to the effective date
of resignation.
Section 5. In the event that an officer resigns or is recalled before the end of their term,
the Executive Board reserves the right to nominate an AGS member from the
chapters previous semester to fulfill the vacant officer position as soon as
possible; given that the member meets the following criteria:
a) Qualifications of nominees are to be reviewed and evaluated by the
official AGS advisor(s) and voted on by the entire officer board with a
2/3 vote.
Section 6. In the event of an Executive Board officer, refer to [Article XI The Executive
Board], resigns or is recalled before the end of their term, the position
immediately succeeding the vacant position has the authority to fulfill the
vacant position. However, that officer reserves the right to decline and remain
presiding within their current position, if they so choose.
Section 7. If the succeeding officer chooses to decline fulling a vacant Executive Board
position, as described in [Article IV Officers; Section 6], the remaining
officers of the Executive Board reserve the right to declare a State of
Emergency and seek measures to fulfill the vacant position.
a) During a State of Emergency the Executive Board reserves the right
to reach out and nominate an AGS member from the chapters previous
semester to fulfill the vacant Executive Board position; given that the
member meets the following criteria:
i. From Order of Importance: (1) Is currently an active member of
the chapter (2) has experience with oncampus leadership and
involvement (3) is able to provide proof of involvement within
the community (4) and be able to submit a current resume.
ii. Nominee should also have ready two references (able to state
character and campus/community involvement) upon request.
b) The reason for the State of Emergency must be agreed upon by the
officer board and advisor(s). Reasons should be documented within the
Minutes of that meeting.
Section 8. If the nominated candidate, depicted in [Article IV Officers; Section 7], is
approved by an advisor(s) and accepts the position, the candidate must be
voted into the vacant position by a 3/4 vote from the officer board during an
officer meeting. If the candidate passes the vote, he/she shall temporarily take
over the vacant Executive Board position as an Interim member of the
Executive Board (ex. Interim President, Interim VicePresident, ect.).
a) The Interim member of the Executive Board shall take over the
responsibilities of their position immediately following the vote. An
emergency election shall be held the next general member meeting and
all Voting Members present will then formally elect to retain OR
recall the Interim member by a 2/3 vote.
i. If the Interim member of the board is elected to retain their
position, then the Interim member will then formally take
over the title of their Executive Board position and act as its
presiding entity.
ii. If the Interim member of the board is elected to be recalled
from their position, the remaining officer board will then open
the floor for nominations within the general membership and
have all nominees submit documents fulling the requirements
of [Article IV Officers; Section 7; Section (a); Sections i and ii].
All documents are then to be submitted to the chapters
advisor(s) for review. An election will then be held the following
general meeting where all Voting Members present will then
formally elect an Executive Board member by a 2/3 vote. The
elected official will then formally take office immediately
following the election and act as their positions presiding entity.
b) The Interim member of the Executive Board shall remain within
their position until they are either (1) formally voted into office by
Voting members or, (2) removed by a 2/3 vote of the AGS officer
board as a whole.
Section 9. An elected officer may be removed from office by a 2/3 vote by the officer
board as a whole for the following reasons:
a) Missing three or more regularly scheduled Officer/General Meetings
without providing prior notice to the President or advisor(s).
i. Determination of excused or unexcused absences is subject to
the discretion of the Executive Board OR advisor(s).
b) Nonperformance of duties as decided by a 2/3 vote of the officer
board during an Officer Meeting.
i. The officer in question shall be notified no less than ten regular
school (Monday through Saturday) days prior to the meeting at
which the vote for removal from office is to be taken. Should
the officer in question resign voluntarily before that meeting is
held, the vote will then become unnecessary.
Section 10. The Gamma Epsilon Chapter shall have at least one Faculty Advisor who shall
be chosen by the officer board AND general members. The Faculty Advisor
must be a certificated, fulltime employee at Los Medanos College. However,
the Gamma Epsilon Chapter may also select a CoAdvisor to assist in the
duties of the advisor, if so needed. There will be no limit to the number of
Coadvisors the chapter may choose. Retired emeritus/emeriti faculty, tenured
positions, and staff may serve as CoAdvisors, but the chapter MUST retain
one fulltime Faculty Advisor unless the in case that the Executive Board
passes a 2/3 vote electing to follow state advisor guidelines.
a) Previous AGS members may also be nominated for a Student Advisor
position as long as they have completed at least one term within the
Executive Board. Student advisors must be approved by the current
advisor(s) and pass a 2/3 vote within the Executive Board. If
appointed, the Student Advisor will then assist the chapter in
whatever ways seem fit by the chapters current advisor(s).
ARTICLE V DUTIES OF OFFICERS
Section 1. The PRESIDENT:
a) Agenda:
i. Creates meeting agendas: follows up with officers and members
to ensure all topics are being covered.
b) Presiding:
i. Presides over and leads all general/officer meetings of the
chapter.
ii. Makes certain that each general member and officer meeting is
planned and organized, flows smoothly, ends on time, and that
each member enjoys their time.
iii. Makes certain that the Vicepresident is prepared to preside in
absence of the President.
iv. Regularly attends general member and officer meetings as well
as all club activities. Also encourages all others to attend.
v. Supports the development of student life, leadership, and
multiculturalism by ensuring that AGS sponsored events adhere
to these principles.
c) Appointing and Delegating:
i. Oversees all activities consistent with the aims and purposes of
the chapter
ii. Takes great care in the appointments made and in delegating
tasks. Ensures that tasks are done.
iii. Works closely with the other officers.
d) Training:
i. Instructs officers and committee chairpersons on their
responsibilities throughout the year.
ii. Prepares a written report at the end of his/her term and
submits copies to the advisor(s) and to their succeeding
President detailing their experiences for training purposes.
e) Points:
i. Encourages members to complete their service points
throughout the year and have a full understanding of the service
point system, specified in [Article XIII Service Points]
Section 2. VICEPRESIDENT:
a) Performs the duties of the President at the request of, or in the
absence of the President, refer to [ARTICLE V; Section 1].
b) Assists the President with goal setting, motivating and training of
other members and committees.
c) Performs duties assigned by president, AGS members, or by these
bylaws within reason and advance notice.
d) Prepares a written report at the end of his/her term and submits copies
to the advisor(s), their succeeding Vice-president, and current
President detailing their experiences for training purposes.

Section 3. SECRETARY:
a) In the absence of the President and Vicepresident, the Secretary
shall perform the duties of the President, refer to [ARTICLE V; Section
1].
b) Records the minutes of all general and officer board meetings. If unable
to attend a meeting, the Treasurer will take over the responsibilities
of the minutes.
c) Email the minutes to the Executive Board officers, Web
Administrator, and advisor(s) within 72 hours of recording them.
d) Maintains an active list of the officer board and advisor(s) contact
information and website credentials.
e) Prepares a written report at the end of his/her term and submits copies
to the advisor(s), to their succeeding Secretary, and current
President detailing their experiences for training purposes.
Section 4. TREASURER:
a) In the absence of the President, Vice-president, and Secretary,
the Treasurer shall perform the duties of the President, refer to
[ARTICLE V; Section 1].
b) The Treasurer is responsible for the annual budget and the
maintenance of adequate, correct records of all fiscal affairs and
business transactions of the chapter.
c) Receives and deposits money collected through fundraising activities
and other means.
d) Gives a report of all AGS funds at officer board meetings.
e) Prepares a final report of all collections and payments made during the
semester and submits copies of it to the advisor(s) preceding the end of
their term.
f) Prepares a written report at the end of his/her term and submits copies
to the advisor(s), to their succeeding Treasurer, and current
President detailing their experiences for training purposes.

Section 5. INTERCLUB AMBASSADOR:
a) In the absence of the President, Vice-president, Secretary, and
the Treasurer, the Interclub Ambassador shall perform the duties
of the President, refer to [ARTICLE V; Section 1].
b) Responsible for interacting with other AGS chapters within our district,
as well as statewide AGS chapters.
c) Responsible for organizing events with other chapters with the help of
the Gamma Epsilon members.
d) Works closely with the President and Vice-president.
e) Represents the Gamma Epsilon chapter at all Interclub Council (ICC)
meetings.
f) Reports and promotes ICC activities at all officer meetings.
g) Provides the chapter with funding from ICC meetings, looks to allocate
administrative and institutional resources along with the rest of the
members of the Executive Board.
h) Encouraged to maintain contacts with other clubs on campus, in the
case of partnering in events.
i) Prepares a written report at the end of his/her term and submits copies
to the advisor(s), to their succeeding Interclub Ambassador, and
current President detailing their experiences for training purposes.
Section 6. AGS STATE PROJECT DIRECTOR:
a) Develops ideas to raise funds and awareness based on the AGS State
Project. All ideas will be voted on by the Executive Board by a 2/3
majority.
b) Works closely with Executive Board.
c) Works in conjunction with the Communications Ambassador,
Publicity Ambassador, and Web Administrator to publicize event to
AGS members and the community.
d) Makes space reservations within Student Life when necessary.
e) Reserves any necessary equipment needed for the event(s).

f) Drafts and completes all paperwork needed for the event to take place.
All paperwork must be approved by the authorities at Student Life.
g) Creates subcommittees to help plan the event and make sure
everything runs smoothly.
h) Needs to be present at the event(s). If he/she is not able to attend the
event, they MUST appoint another officer to supervise.
i) Prepares a written report at the end of his/her term and submits copies
to the advisor(s) and current President detailing their experiences for
training purposes.

Section 7. PUBLICITY/SOCIAL AMBASSADOR:


a) Maintain the chapters official social media sites, and the chapters
official texting application. Drafts weekly newsletter and sends them to
the board for accuracy verification.
b) Establishes new presences on social networking sites deemed
appropriate.
c) Maintains the integrity of the social media page(s) by monitoring and
editing content for offensiveness and profanity.
d) Advertises AGS sponsored events on social media page(s) at least one
week in advance of event date.
e) Contacts local schools, newspapers and other forms of media to
publicize AGS sponsored events (with permission from Los Medanos
College.
f) Responsible for any news articles required by the AGS state board.
g) Refers emails to executive board in terms of relevance.
h) Responsible for hosting a table and coordinating with volunteers to
help distribute information to nonmembers. Tables are approved and
distributed by Student Life and must be requested in advance.
i) Prepares a written report at the end of his/her term and submits copies
to the advisor(s), to their succeeding Publicity Ambassador, and
current President detailing their experiences for training purposes.
Section 8. FUNDRAISING DIRECTOR:

a) Reserves dates for fundraisers that conform to availability of the
general members and chapter officers.
b) Strongly encourages fundraisers to take place weekly to biweekly.
c) Must reserve any equipment necessary from the Student Life office if
necessary.
d) Must be able to direct fundraisers in an efficient and beneficial manner.
e) Must be able to get supplies necessary for an event or appoint a
member to get the supplies in their stead.
f) Must be able to attend and supervise an event or appoint another
officer to do so in their stead.
g) Fundraising ideas must be brought up during officer or general
meetings. The final decision will be made with a 2/3 vote from the
officer board.
h) Works closely with the Interclub Ambassador and Publicity
Ambassador.
i) Prepares a written report at the end of his/her term and submits copies
to the advisor(s), to their succeeding Fundraising Director, and
current President detailing their experiences for training purposes.
Section 9. OUTREACH DIRECTOR:
a) Responsible for seeking volunteer events within the community or on
campus.
b) Strongly recommended to partner with other clubs/organizations.
c) Must coordinate events and methods of transportation before
releasing information to the chapter.
d) Coordinates with officers to keep the websites calendar up to date
with community and fundraising events. Must post events at least one
week in advance.
e) Must supply any liability waivers, if necessary for participation of event.

f) Works closely with the Publicity Ambassador.
g) Communicates nonAGS sponsored events to chapter members and
Web Administrator via formal email. The Web Administrator will
then publish the event on the chapters official website. If unable to
draft an email the Publicity/Social Ambassador must then notify a
member of the Executive Board immediately.
h) Prepares a written report at the end of his/her term and submits copies
to the advisor(s), to their succeeding Community Director, and
current President detailing their experiences for training purposes.
Section 10. WEB ADMINISTRATOR:
a) Works close with the Historian updating the official website with
pictures taken from AGS events.
b) Responsible for formatting the website in such a way that allows for
easy use among the member population.
c) Communicates with the Executive Board about modifying content.
d) Sends weekly text messages through the mass texting application.
e) Prepares a written report at the end of his/her term and submits copies
to the advisor(s), to their succeeding Web Administrator, and current
President detailing their experiences for training purposes.
Section 11. HISTORIAN:
a) Responsible for taking photos at AGS events and work with the web
ambassador to post them on the official Gamma Epsilon chapter
website, and all designated social media sites.
b) If unable to attend an event, he/she must communicate with an AGS
member or officer in attendance and have them take over photo
responsibilities.
c) Keeps a record of AGS history such as the founding of AGS and how our
own Gamma Epsilon chapter at Los Medanos College established.
Information about AGS can found on the state boards website,
www.agshonors.org. Club history can be allocated from the
Executive Board and advisor(s).

d) Prepares a written report at the end of his/her term and submits copies
to the advisor(s), to their succeeding Historian, and current
President detailing their experiences for training purposes.
ARTICLE VI FUNDRAISERS
Section 1. Officers in Attendance:
a) At least one officer MUST attend an AGS sponsored fundraiser,
preferably for the duration of the fundraiser itself.
b) If no officers can attend an event, a temporary elected official,
approved by the Executive Board, will be responsible for supervising
the event and signing service sheets.
Section 2. At the end of the event, the cash box must be returned to either the
Treasurer, advisor(s), or Executive Board officer.
Section 3. Fundraisers will take place at least one week after the general meeting in
which the event was discussed.
Section 4. Notifications for upcoming fundraisers will be sent out by email at least one
week prior to the event.
Section 5. A member who is interested in fundraising must either sign up on the website,
email the Fundraising Director, or sign up at the meeting in which the
fundraiser is being discussed.
Section 6. In the case of an Emergency Fundraiser as declared by the Executive
Board, the guidelines set forth in [ARTICLE VI, Sections 2, 3, 4, and 5], may
be omitted.
ARTICLE VII VOLUNTEERING EVENTS
Section 1. Volunteering events will be at least one week after the general meeting, in
which it was discussed.
Section 2. Upcoming volunteering events will be sent out through email at least one
week prior to the event.
Section 3. In the case of a volunteer event with an upcoming deadline, the guidelines set
forth in [ARTICLE VI, Sections 1 and 2], may be omitted.
Section 4. If a liability waiver must be filled out for a particular event, it MUST be turned
in BEFORE the participating member can take part in that event.

Section 1. General Meetings are highly suggested to be held on one day each week during
the semester. Meeting times and places shall be determined by the Executive
Board. General Meetings are informational and used to communicate AGS
members of upcoming events while also allowing for member to give chapter
input and for officers to answer questions.
a) The first general meeting of the semester shall be held no later than
the third week of the semester.
b) The last general meeting shall be held before the first day of final
exams.
c) An action item (such as one that requires a vote) on the agenda of a
general meeting shall be decided by all those present who are
considered Voting Members as defined in [Article III, Section 8].
d) An advisor shall be present at all official meetings of the chapter.
ARTICLE IX THE NORTHERN REGIONAL CONFERENCE
A Northern Regional Conference involving the Alpha Gamma Sigma chapters in the northern
region of California is held on a Saturday in October or November during each Fall term.
Notice of the date and location is mailed to the Advisor(s) early in the Fall Semester.
Members who wish to attend may do so provided a faculty advisor is available to accompany
them. There no is limit to the number of members that can attend. Fees may be involved in
order to participate in the conference.
ARTICLE X THE STATE CONVENTION
Section 1. A State Convention of Alpha Gamma Sigma is held every Spring Semester in
March or April. Notice of the dates and location are mailed to the faculty
advisor(s) early in the Spring Semester.
Section 2. The number of delegates that attend from LMC shall depend partly on the
ability of the chapter and individual members to pay the necessary expenses.
At least one advisor must accompany the chapter's delegation.
ARTICLE XI THE EXECUTIVE BOARD
Section 1. The Executive Board shall consist of the following officer positions in order of
importance: President, VicePresident, Secretary, Treasurer, and Inter-
Club Ambassador.
Section 2. The Executive Board is strongly encouraged to hold a regular meeting among
the current AGS officers at least once a week during the semester. The day,

time, and place of this Officer Meeting shall be determined by the Executive
Board prior to the start of the semester.
Section 3. A quorum shall consist of onehalf plus one of the elected voting officers.
Section 4. At least one advisor is strongly encouraged to be present at all official
meetings of the Executive Board.
Section 5. The EXECUTIVE BOARD shall:
a) Plan activities consistent with the accomplishment and the purposes of
the chapter.
b) Determine and publicize ways in which members may earn service
points.
c) The President may call special meetings of the Executive Board
during the semester on any day, including weekends, provided an
advisor is available to attend.
d) Elect temporary officials in the case that no officer can attend an event.
Section 6. The Executive Board reserves the right to issue disciplinary referrals to
members who are continuously disruptive during General Member or Officer
Meetings, have displayed verbal abuse/harassment toward other AGS
members, or have been otherwise antagonistic with the ideals and beliefs of
AGS.
a) A Three Strike Rule for referrals shall be in place before the need to
seek further action. Once the third strike is reached, the member will
then be required to attend mediation with an AGS advisor(s) and the
authorities of the Los Medanos College Student Life department.
However, immediate mediation shall be issued if the offence is deemed
severe enough by the AGS board.
i. The individual attending mediation then SHALL NOT have
permission to attend or participate in any AGS sponsored events
or meetings until the mediation is confirmed to be completed
by an advisor(s) or authority within the Student Life
department.
b) Instances for when a referral can be issued can include, but are not
limited to: (1) Disrupting an individual (member, officer, advisor, ect.)
who has the floor, (2) harassment of any kind to another person(s), or

(3) a nonperformance of duties as determined by the AGS board. All
other instances for referral issuing shall be determined by the AGS
board thereafter.
ARTICLE XII COMMITTEES
Section 1. Standing committees can be developed and implemented by any officer or
current AGS General Member. However, the idea of such must be approved by
the AGS Board.
Section 2. The President shall be the presiding member of all standing committees.
ARTICLE XIII SERVICE POINTS
Section 1. All service points shall be consistent with the purposes of the chapter. The advisors
and executive board reserve the right to determine the appropriateness of service
points.
Section 2. All members (Initial Members, Temporary Members, Continuing
Members, and Permanent Members) are required to complete the
chapters service point requirement, which may be earned by participating in
AGS sponsored events within the chapter, regional, or state level as well as
participating in a mandatory number of nonsponsored AGS community
events.
a) Initial Members, Temporary Members, and Continuing Members
must complete a minimum of 100 total service points. Of these 100
service points 60 points MUST be completed during AGS sponsored
events, 30 service points MUST be completed during nonAGS
sponsored events, and the final 10 points can be completed with
EITHER AGS sponsored or nonAGS sponsored events.
b) Permanent Members that are attending Los Medanos College must
complete at least 30 service points to retain active status.
Section 3. Current AGS members are to report completed service hours/points on service
sheets provided by AGS. The amount of points awarded during events will be
based on the following criteria:
a) At least FOUR points will be awarded for every hour of service
completed.
b) Each general meeting is worth TWO points.
i. ONE extra point will be awarded if the member wears their AGS

tshirt during a general meeting.

ii. If a member is 20 or more minutes late OR leaves 20 or more
minutes early to a General Meeting, they will then only receive
ONE point for attending the meeting regardless if they are
wearing an AGS shirt or not.
c) During AGS sponsored events, ONE extra point will be awarded for
every ONE hour of service completed while wearing their AGS tshirt.
Section 4. Maximum of 30 required service points must be earned through
volunteering without AGS.
Section 5. All hours and points completed on campus will need to be signed off by a
current AGS officer who attended the event or a temporary elected official
who was assigned by the Executive Board.
Section 6. All hours completed in a community service organization outside of Alpha
Gamma Sigma must be signed off by a supervisor WITH contact information. If
no contact information is written, the hours will NOT be accepted.
ARTICLE XIV AWARDS
Section 1. Members are eligible to receive awards as long as they maintain a 3.00 GPA
and are considered an Active Member or Permanent Member.
Section 2. Members that were active during one of the semesters of their final year
(either Fall OR Spring semester) at Los Medanos College will be eligible to
purchase and receive a golden chord to wear during graduation.
Section 3. Active Members who remained active during their final year (Fall AND
Spring) at Los Medanos College will be eligible to purchase receive a sash to
wear during graduation.
Section 4. Only selected members of the Executive Board and AGS advisors shall be
eligible to hand out awards to wear during graduation.
Section 5. Certificates of participation may be given at the end of the Spring semester to
Active Members. The location to present the awards will be determined by
the Voting Members at least two weeks before the end of the Spring
semester.
Section 6. Permanent Members will receive AGS seals on their transcript.
ARTICLE XV AMENDMENT OF BYLAWS

Section 1. Amendments to these bylaws may be proposed by any two members or by any
advisor(s). All amendments, additions or deletions must be filed with the
Student Life Office within one week of adoption

Copies of the amendment shall be distributed to all members of current officer positions at
special meeting time; at the following meeting of the board, the amendment shall be discussed
and then voted on; a majority vote of the entire elected board shall be required for board
approval.
