MARTY WENDELL AND FIREWORKS

END THURMAN CONCERTS WITH A
BANG:
Thurmans free Concerts in the Park draw to a close Monday,
August 28th with the rollicking tunes of Rockabilly Hall of Fame
recording artist, Marty Wendell and his Tour Band, performing
from 7 9 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Field, 311 Athol Road,
Athol. Wendell in 2014 celebrated his 50th Anniversary of making
music and received a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.
He has shared the stage with a long list of legendary artists including
Arlo Guthrie, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash. He recorded in the
famous Sun Studio in Memphis, TN where Elvis, Johnny Cash
and many recording stars cut their first records. His performances
remind audiences just how good genuine rockabilly music can be.
He plays classics and oldies from the Golden Age of Rock and
Roll as well as some of his original songs like 57 Chevy and he
will offer his new CD, A Real Good Run for sale at the concert.
Read more: www.martywendell.com. The concession stand this
week will be Thurman Station Association, offering fresh-grilled
hot dogs, fresh buttered popcorn, brownie ice cream sundaes and
hot and cold beverages. Theyll also offer tickets for a quilt raffle
and 50/ 50 raffle to raise funds for TSAs operating expenses.
The venue has benches for seating, but many bring folding chairs.
Rapidly dropping evening temperatures make layered clothing
advisable.

New Business Launches: Send A Meal Today

Service will send comfort food to new moms, recovering
patients, grieving family, and more
Father-daughter team James Quinlan and Carly Quinlan Trerise
of Hudson Falls, New York announce the launch of their new
business, Send A Meal Today, which delivers comfort foods such
as lasagna, mac & cheese and pot pies as a thoughtful gift. They
are open for business beginning September 1, 2017. For
information, visit www.sendamealtoday.com or call (518) 832-
4899.
Customers can order online at sendamealtoday.com and have a meal delivered to
parents who have just come home from the hospital with their new baby, surgery patients
who have just returned home and may not be up to cooking, family members who have
lost a loved one, or on the occasion of a housewarming, wedding, birthday, thank-you,
congratulations or any occasion at all. SendAMealToday delivers to Glens Falls, South
Glens Falls, Queensbury, Hudson Falls, Kingsbury, Lake George, Fort Edward, Fort
Ann and Hartford, New York. Meals are prepared by Dickinsons Delights.
For now, orders must be placed before Thursday at 4 p.m. for delivery on Saturdays
and Sundays. Hours may expand in the future. All meals include a salad and choice of
dessert. They are delivered cold and can be warmed up at the recipients convenience.
Meals are for two to four people. Flowers can be added to any delivery for an additional
fee.
My father has always had a passion for catering to others, says Carly. He grew up in
Granville, New York, and worked through the BOCES Culinary Program
and earned his Associates Degree from SUNY Adirondack. He worked in
the kitchen at Great Meadow Correctional Facility in Comstock and at that
time opened a business was just like Fat Kid Foods, called Restaurant
Runners. It required more time and attention than my parents could give
at that time, and then he was appointed Head Chef Supervisor at
Washington Correctional Facility, where he continued to work for more
than 25 years.
This past January he retired and it was the time to really get going with
our dream, which became more personal after I had my son in 2015,
adds Carly. Soon after he was born, I developed a severe kidney infection which kept
me in the hospital for nearly a month. I can honestly say that one of the best things
about finally coming home was knowing that my family had cooked comfort food meals
for us at least once a week and we felt so well taken care of. That simple act of compassion
is all it took for me and my new family to feel less stressed.
We wanted Send A Meal Today to cater to those who are just coming home from the
hospital or have lost a loved one, Carly continues. For the moments in life where we
need a pick-me-up, and for the happy moments that become memories. As we pitched
this idea to family and friends, we began to realize the importance of a meal. To us, this
isnt just about a business, its about making somebodys day with something as simple
as macaroni and cheese! We want to put more good out in this world. I really feel
passionate about this, and I know its one of my fathers dreams to see one of his ideas
make it. Considering everything my father has done for us, I want nothing more than to
help him on his journey.

Senior cat special!
Julio came to us after his owner had to move away
and wasnt able to bring him. He is a very hand-
some boy that loves to get attention and treats. He
would do best as the only pet in the house and
would prefer to stay inside. He would do best in a
quieter home; he enjoys relaxing and looking out
the window in his spare time. If youre looking for a
couch potato to hang out with then hes your guy!
Pam was surrendered to us after her owner had to
go into a nursing home. She is around 10 years old
and is used to living as the only cat in the house so
she is not a big fan of her roommates here and
would probably do better in a home as the only pet.
She is however very affectionate and outgoing and
would make a great family cat or a friend for
someone who is lonely.
Squeaky was surrender after her owner had to move.
She is around 10 years old and is as sweet as can be!
Squeaky loves to talk and has a squeaky little meow.
She has a gorgeous coat and beautiful bright green
eyes. Squeaky has lived with other cats and gets
along fine with them and probably dogs as well. She
will make an excellent lap cat and friend. After arriving
at Second Chance Squeaky was diagnosed with a
hyper-thyroid condition, which can be maintained with a special food.

Just Thinking
By: May Jones
Today, just down the road from me, there is a tag sale. Its at the old farmhouse
where Doris lived all of her life. She died this past February in her nineties.
At this stage of life I am not only witnessing, but also participating in the dis-
posal of the personal belongings of people who dont need them anymore. We
human beings collect a lot of things throughout our lives; things that we know are
temporary and cannot take with us. Yet we have this repetitive urge to buy, use
once or twice, and either discard it or store it away. Many of us run out of room
even in the largest of houses, and then need storage units.
We can do better by becoming more savvy consumers. Here are some tips:
Wait 24 hours before making a purchase of any kind. More often than not, you
will find it wasnt the thing you wanted, it was the thrill of buying somethingwhich
is very short lived.
Make sure you dont have it already I have 12 heavy duty lead cords.
Ask yourself, Do I need this or do I want it? Is it an emotional purchase or a
necessary purchase?
When buying apparel set the rule of one in - one out. If you buy one new shirt,
one old one is given to the second hand shop. This way you keep a steady inven-
tory of shirts, pants, and shoes.
In place of giving gifts, give experiences instead; such as a picnic at the park, or
a day watching movies and eating popcorn. Time is the best gift you can ever give
to anyone you love.
Ben Franklin tried his best to live up to his thirteen virtues, and although he ad-
mitted to falling short of them, he felt he was a better man for trying. A few of them
fit into this subject: Frugality - he tried to waste nothing, Order - he felt everything
should have its place,
Moderation - he avoided extremes, Industry - he cut off all unnecessary actions,
and
Cleanliness - which speaks for itself. So, within five of the thirteen virtues, he
alluded to consumerism.
If Ben Franklin doesnt convince you, heres what the Dalai Lama has to say on
the subject: People were created to be loved. Things were created to be used.
The reason why the world is in such chaos is because things are being loved and
people are being used.
It just cannot be said any better than that.
