CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background Study

Human Resource Management is a term used to refer the philosophy, policies, procedures and
practices related to the management of people. Today every organization has to face high competition
regarding the human resource management and retaining. Hence, the organization needs to take the
right decision at right time to achieve the organizational goals. The satisfaction of human workforce
is major concept in Human Resource Management theory.
Employee satisfaction or job satisfaction is quite simply how content or satisfied employees are with
their jobs. It is typically measured by addressing the topics such as compensation, workload,
perception of management, flexibility, teamwork, resources, etc. Simply it is a measurement of how
happy workers or employees are with their job and working environment. High morale among
workers is beneficial for any organization as happy workers will be likely to provide greater
efficiency and productivity, loyalty to company.
Job satisfaction is not the same as motivation, although it is clearly linked. Job design aims to enhance
job satisfaction and performance. The methods may include job rotation, job enlargement and
enrichment. Some other influencing factors may include management styles and culture, employee
involvement, payments, employee involvement and empowerment, promotional opportunities etc.
The job satisfaction has been developed in many ways by many different researchers.
The job satisfaction of the employees is also determined by the facilities and services provided by
the organization to them. Such facilities may include the recreation and refreshment facilities like
office trips and tours, cultural and social programs, sports programs etc. All these facilities provide
the refreshment and help the employees from being bored towards their day to day activities in the
organization.
According to Locke (1976) an English Philosopher, job satisfaction is a pleasurable or positive
emotional state resulting from the appraisal of ones job or job experiences.
These things are all important to companies or organizations who want to keep their employees happy
and reduce turnover, each and every organization should think about maintaining and increasing the
satisfaction level of their employees working in the organization. This help in the retention of the
employees which is beneficial for the organization to achieve the specified goals or objectives.
Hence the employee satisfaction in any organization is essential for the better survival and growth of
the organization. Each and every organization needs to think about rising the satisfaction level of
employees and take steps to maintain the satisfaction level so that there will be less problem regarding
the employee turnover, lockouts and union strikes etc.
This research report is completed based on studying the impact of physical, psychological and
working environment factors on the satisfaction level of employees who are working in WorldLink
Communications. With the use of the questionnaires data are gathered which will be analyzed and
recommendations are further suggested.

Nepal.
1.4 Issues and Problems
During the preparation of report various problems and issues were encountered as it was difficult to
be fully involved with the organization for short duration of time and sufficient samples couldnt be
formed due to busy schedules of the employees. Some of the major problems and difficulties which
I have faced during preparation of report were:

Difficulties in interacting with the employees especially top level.

Lack of sufficient time period.
Due to lack of sufficient time, the detailed study could not be performed.
Sufficient samples could not be collected, due to the busy schedules of the employees.
Similarly, on the basis of observation and questionnaires with the employees some of the issues and
problems in the organizations are:
Lack of sufficient parking area for the vehicles.
Issues regarding the leave.

1.6.2 Data and Information
Data and information are one of the most important and vital aspect of any research studies. The
There are two sources of data collection techniques for the research that have been used in this
research they are:

3
a. Primary source
The primary source data are the fresh data collected from effort of researchers. To collect
the primary source of data survey was conducted among the employees to gather the
statistical data. For the report I have used the questionnaires as the source of primary
data. The questionnaires were distributed to employees and it is based on the response of
employees to the questions. Some sample of questionnaires used in report are:
What health and safety measures does your company apply?
How your company provides recreation and refreshment facilities?

Secondary data is data that is being reused. The secondary data is the data that has been
already collected and available from other sources. For the collection of secondary data
for this report I have used the articles related to WorldLink Communications, brochure
and website of WorldLink Communications and internet. Similarly, I have also referred
to book entitled Human resource management in Nepal written by Govinda Ram
Agrawal for secondary source of data.

1.6.3 Tools used

For the collection of data and information the tools are the essential components. The research tool
is also known as research instrument. For preparation of the report, following tool is used.
a. Questionnaire method
Questionnaire method is the approach where certain questions are provided to group of people.
For this project work, I have provided the set of thirteen questions to the sample of 50 employees
working in WorldLink Communications Pvt.Ltd. The data are analyzed by the answers given by
the employees to these questions.

facility. So, we can say that the organization has more focus towards providing insurance facility to
its employees. Similarly, we can also see that 20% the employees have also chosen quality
equipment. Thus, organization is also using the quality of equipment so as to help employees to
perform their work more efficiently and protect them from unwanted problems.
Hence, we find that the organization has provided the proper facility to the employees regarding the
safety of the employees working in their organization.

motivational spirit among the employees.

7

Table showing the mean of satisfaction level regarding the working relation with co-workers

Interpretation
The above table and figure show that the employees have good communication with each other. The
problem found is that they are not able to maintain the better coordination in the work. Around 30
employees from the sample are found to be dissatisfied with the coordination between the workers.
Likewise regarding the ability of the co-workers it is found that employees are satisfied nor
dissatisfied they are found to be at neutral side.
Thus, with the calculation of the mean it is found that the mean of Neutral is found to be high as
compared to others. So, in overall conclusion we can say that the employees are neutral with the
working relation with the co-workers.
