NJ501, FH-L Latent Power Up and SD Card Read/Write

This notice is to inform you that there is a product issue with NJ501 series controllers and
the FH-L vision systems produced from March 2, 2016 through May 29, 2017.

In these particular models, after approximately 18 months of operation, there is the potential
that the following symptoms may occur:
The NJ501/FH-L will not start on power up; and
Data cannot be read and written to the SD card.

This is an Omron initiated update; no occurrence of this issue has been

reported by a customer.

NJ501-1320/1420/1520 (Database connection)
NJ501-4300/4400/4500/4310 (Robotics)
NJ501-4320 (Robotics & Database connection)
NJ501-1340 (SECS)
Vision System Controllers
FH-L550-
FH-L550-10

No other NJ/NX series controllers are affected, only the NJ501 series.
No other FH series vision systems are affected, only the FH-L series.

Countermeasures
NJ501 controllers: Currently, all inventories of these products have been isolated. As of
June 5, 2017, we are only shipping NJ501 product with updated firmware.
FH-L vision systems with updated firmware will begin shipping at the end of July, 2017.

Issue Resolution
Customers can send units into the repair center for upgrade, if desired.
Omron Application Engineers will have access to the firmware upgrade files and
procedures. The FH-L firmware will be available in July.
Unopened units from distributors matching date code/lot code numbers can be
returned for credit or replacement
Once the firmware change is applied, only 4GB SD cards can be used in the NJ501
controllers. Users of 2GB cards will be updated to 4GB.
