1. Kirsebom, Marie, Barbro Wadensten, and Mariann Hedstrm. "Communication and

coordination during the transition of older persons between nursing homes and hospital
still in need of improvement." Journal of advanced nursing 69.4 (2013): 886-895.

The main argument of this article is to examine the coordination and communication
practices of hospital staffs and nurses of nursing homes during the process of the relocation
of old persons. The study was on account of a complaint. This complain was about the
communication gap and difficulty on the transfer of old people from nursing homes to
hospitals.

This article is an eloquent study in which qualitative approach was followed. For the purpose
of carrying out the study, discussions between hospital nurses and nurses from nursing homes
were conducted and the results clearly exposed the communication gap between the two
bodies. It was also found out that there was insufficient content for communication and there
existed a lack of usage of electronic data system which is for the transfer of information of
the patient.

The intended audience in this article is the nurses belonging to the nursing homes and those
belonging to the hospitals. This is because the main problem of communication gap between
the nurses of two different sectors was elaborated in this article. The authors concluded that
the coordination and communication links between the hospitals and the nursing homes for
the case of transferring of old people required to be improved.

2. Kourkouta, L., & Papathanasiou, I. V. (2014). Communication in nursing practice.

Materia socio-medica, 26(1), 65.

The authors Lambrini Kourkouta and Ioanna V. Papathanasiou in their journal article
highlighted the significance of communication in the profession of nursing. The authors
presented the principles of communication and defined that nurses must demonstrate the act
of kindness and sincerity towards their patients in order to get the successful productive
response. It is also highlighted that experience and education are also the basis of an effective
communication apart from the physical aptitudes of nurses.

This article reflects the importance of communication of nurses with their patients. It defines
the noble profession of nursing and the need of learning the principles of communication for
a better understanding of the patient and to diagnose properly. The authors gave the idea to
nurses of how to create an effective relationship with the patient for the purpose of earning
their trust and it can be through creating a good interpersonal environment.

The intended audiences are the nurses and their nursing profession that are targeted in this
article. This is because the authors clearly pointed them out to make them realise the
significance of interpersonal communication with the patients, and making a healthy dialogue
environment, a key element of the modern nursing.

3. McCaffrey, R., Hayes, R. M., Cassell, A., MillerReyes, S., Donaldson, A., & Ferrell,
C. (2012). The effect of an educational program on attitudes of nurses and medical
residents towards the benefits of positive communication and collaboration. Journal of
advanced nursing, 68(2), 293-301.

The article of McCaffrey, Hayes, Cassell, MillerReyes, Donaldson and Ferrell is a report on
the study conducted at a hospital. This highlighted the influence of educational programs on
nurses and medical dwellers for the purpose of good communication and association. The
authors defined the importance of the continuation of education for the medical dwellers,
nurses, and healthcare professionals for a better collaboration and teamwork.

The basic objective of the study was to determine whether the educational programs on
communication skills conducted in class rooms would create an impact on the attitudes of
nurses or not. The other objective of the study was to determine whether the collaboration
among the healthcare staffs and the group discussions amid medical staffs and nurses would
create an impact on the outlooks about collaboration or not. The results of the study clearly
specified that the nurses and the medical staffs got advantage from the educational sessions as
their attitudes were improved in collaborating with each other.

The intended audience in this study are clearly the medical staffs, nurses, and the healthcare
workers. This is because the study emphasises on holding the educational sessions in order to
develop and promote team work and effective communication styles in them. These factors
prove to increase the job contentment of nursing and the outcomes of the patients.

Part B:

Communication in every aspect of life holds a vital role in creating an effective relationship
and to convey our messages properly without any misunderstanding. Positive communication
helps to improve the value of care offered to the patients. It is a key to building an effective,
meaningful, and genuine relationship between the nurses and the patients and other health
staff. The key aspect for holding an effective communication is to have a courage and
patience to listen to others and not to over react. In the profession of nursing, listening to
patients is very important to create a healthy environment as patient expect his nurse to pay
attention and listen to his problems. Also, it is important to build a good collaboration with
other healthcare workers in order to perform the duty more effectively and with honesty
(McCaffrey et al, 2012). As a nursing student, I will try to develop this practice of effectively
listening to my patients for the purpose of earning their trust and making them contended
with my services (Kirsebom et al, 2013).

The second important aspect of communication is trust. Trust is very significant in the case
when there are chances of misunderstandings. There is a basic need of being transparent to
the patients so that they can confidently convey their fears and problems and put their trust on
us. As a nursing student, I will try my best to be friendly to all of my patients in order to
create a trust worthy environment and to let my patients share their problems with me
(Kourkouta & Papathanasiou, 2014).

Another aspect of an efficient communication in nursing is honesty. A nurse has to be honest

to the patients and to the fellow workers. It is the right of the patient and his family to get to
know about everything regarding the treatment. A patient and his family must be made
satisfied about the treatment. The nurse has to be responsive in case of any query asked by
the patient or by his family (Kourkouta & Papathanasiou, 2014). As a nursing student, I will
adopt this practice and make it my habit of being honest in my profession. I will try to
understand the situation and try to satisfy the patient and his family as much as possible with
my good attitude. I will try to apply my knowledge to its full potential in order to create a
healthy treating environment and try to create an example for my fellow co-workers. I will try
my best to solve any kind of conflict that may exist among my co-workers and would ensure
not to become a part of that conflict.
