_——— ea Lt ee aa) aso she ae eae SCHOOL OF EDUCATION || SCHOOL OF EDUCATION VISION The Teacher Education Program envisions to produce teachers who are effective synthesizers of organized knowledge with analytical and critical thinking abilities,and efficient facilitators of learning to assist the learners develop their potentials to the fullest MISSION The mission of the School of Education is to prepare globally competitive teachers who are imbued with the ideals, aspirations and traditions of Philippine life andare sufficiently equipped with pedagogical content knowledge and skills. OBJECTIVES ‘The School of Education aims to develop professionally competent teachers who are able to assume and perform the following: 1. Effective conveyors of organized knowledge developed from human experienced. 2. Efficient promoters and facilitators of learning that will enable the learners to develop to the fullest their potentials for a continuing pursuit of education. 3. Active humanists who possess clear understanding and appreciation of human values. 4, Implementers of trai ing and development programs responsive to the education and professional needs of administrators, faculty and students; Providers of top caliber teachers who are sensitive and responsive to the needs of the society and of the nation. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: Graduates of the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) and Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) programs are teachers who: 1. have the basic and higher level of literacy, communication and numeric ability, critical thinking skills needed for higher learning; 2. have profound and principled understanding of the learning processes and the role of the teacher in facilitating these processes to their students; 3. have thorough knowledge in relating educational processes to larger historical, social, cultural and political processes. 4, have meaningful and comprehensive knowledge of the subject matter they teach; and can apply a wide range of teaching process skills (including curriculum development, lesson planning, materials development, educational assessment, and teaching approaches); a have direct experience in the field/classroom (e.g. classroom observation, teaching assistance, practice teaching); and can demonstrate and practice the professional and ethical requirements of the teaching professions; 6. can facilitate learning of diverse types of learners, in diverse types of learning environments, using a wide range of teaching knowledge and skills; 7. can reflect on the relationships among the teaching process skills and the learning process of the students, the nature of the content/subject matter, and the broader social forces encumbering the school and educational processes in order to constantly improve their teaching knowledge, skills and practices; 8. can be creative and innovative in thinking for alternative teaching approaches, take informed risks in trying out these innovative approaches in improving student learning; and 9, are willing and capable to continue learning in order to better fulfill their mission as teachers. THE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION OFFERS THE FOLLOWING COURSES: Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) Major in: 1. English 2. Physical Education 3. Social Studies 4. Music Arts, Physical Education & Health Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) Major in: SPED Pre-School In 1989, the School of Education was given permit to operate and in 1991 it was issued government recognition by the former Department of Education, Culture and Sports now CHED. Corollary, to this the government granted EAC the offering of the four year course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) major in English, Filipino, Social Studies, Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health Education. Likewise, EAC was granted the offering of the four year course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED). Recently, the School of Education applied permit to offer BEED major in Special Education (SPED) and Pre School Education. On May 23, 1996, EAC was granted permit to open a Pre-school, the Early Learning Center which serves as the Laboratory School for the School of Education with Mrs. Rolenda L.Campos as its Director: Teacher Certificate Program. (TCP) Courses offered to Non-Education graduates. To qualify for the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) 18 units or 30 units for professional subjects in Education are required by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) COURSE DESCRIPTION The BEED and BSED programs are structured to meet the needs of professional teachers for elementary schools and special education programs in the Philippines and the needs of professional teachers for secondary schools in the Philippines, respectively. The BEED aims to develop clementary school teachers who are (a) generalists, who can teach across the different learning areas in grade school, (b) special education teachers, or (c) pre-school teachers. The BSED aims to develop high school teachers who can teach in one of the different learning areas in high school like Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, English, Filipino, and Physical Education among others.
