5. Principal Dimension
Lpp = 150.00 m
Lwl = 154.50 m
B = 27.00 m
H = 12.00 m
T = 7.00 m
Cbpp = 0.784
Cbwl = 0.796
Vs = 13 Knots
Endurance = 6 Days
Type = Product Oil Tanker

6. Calculation Design
a. Calculation of volume displacement
= Lpp x B x T x Cbpp x ; Where : = 1.025 Ton / m3
= 150 x 27 x 7 x 0,784 x 1,025
= 22,782.06 m3

Generally, ballast water takes from 10% - 15 % of displacement. But, in this ship it takes 30
in order to be able to sink the ship propeller into the water.
Weight of ballast water (Wb):
Wb = 30% x Disp.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION OF BALLAST SYSTEM Rev. No. :
Page :

= 30% x 9.196,65
= 6,834.62 Ton
Then,
The volume of the Wb :
VWb = Wb / SW ; Where : SW = 1.025 ton/m3
= 6.834,62 / 1,025
= 6,667.92 m3

b. Ballast pump capacity calculation

Estimated time to empty the ballast tanks (t) = 14 Hour
so that the capacity of the pump:
Q = VWb / t
= 6.667,92 / 14
= 476.28 m3 / h
= 0.13 m3 / s

c. Ballast main pipe diameter calculation

Flow velocity in the main pipe (v = 3 m/s
dH = (4 x Q) / (v x )
= (4 x 0.13) / (3 x 3.14)
= 0.24 m
= 237.02 mm
= 9.33 inch

Based on the calculation of the selected pipe with specifications are available on the marke
Standard = ANSI B36.10 - Schedule 40
Dia. Nominal = 250
Inside Diameter = 254.40 mm = 10.02 inch
Outside Diameter = 273.00 mm = 10.75 inch
Thickness = 9.30 mm = 0.37 inch
