Mao was one of the most interesting left-wing leaders in his commitment to
Unit 2 Outline: revolution and the breaking down of all elements of traditional Chinese
IB World History Y2 society (this is a disaster for millions of Chinese). Maos legacy is also
relevant in assessing Chinas power economic and otherwise in the 21 st
century. Maos rise and establish of the PRC in 1949 - after Stalin - makes for
Paper 2 Topic 10 relevant comparison of methods, successes and failures in implementation of
SPS Maos China Communism in largely agrarian societies

Unit 2 also deals with the impacts of the 1 st Cold War outside of Europe in
Paper 2 Topic 12 Asia. The outbreak of war on the Korean Peninsula in 1950 was the 1 st
Super Power Rivalries major military conflict of the Cold War. The end of WW 2 & the Korean War
Cold War sets the stage for the establishment of Maos SPS in the Peoples Republic of
China an authoritarian regime that is still in power today.
