I am thrilled to be working alongside you this school year as we journey into the exciting experience of Spanish
language learning! We will work hard, have fun, and most importantly learn a language that will benefit you for the
rest of your life. Please know that I care deeply about each student I work with and will always try to give the best
version of myself each and every school day. Let's make this year our best yet!

Class Overview
Conversational Spanish is an elective class at Northeast Middle School. In this class students will first learn Spanish words and
phrases, then will progress to learning sentence structures. Additionally, students will gain knowledge of Spanish speaking
countries and their cultures. At the end of this class, students should be able to conduct basic conversations in Spanish, as well as
listen and understand basic Spanish

Classroom Behavior Policies & Procedures


Classroom Rules, Consequences, and Rewards:
Students are expected to follow school rules and procedures at all times in order to ensure that we provide a safe and productive
learning environment to all students.

POWER in the Classroom:


Be seated before the bell rings (punctual)
Have all of your materials in class ready to use (orderly)
Try your best (work hard)
Participate in class and be involved in your learning (engaged)
Keep your hands, feet, and all objects to yourself (respectful)
Respect school property (respectful)

Severe Clause: Extreme behaviors such as fighting, bullying, cursing, weapons, etc. may result in an immediate office referral.

Rewards:
Verbal Praise: Students always have the opportunity to receive positive notes and phone calls home.
Tickets & Treats: Students will receive tickets for above and beyond behavior and participation in class. Students will
have the opportunity to earn a prize at the end of the 9 weeks by submitting their tickets to the teachers.

Make sure your area is clean
Gather all materials and belongings
Pack up your backpack AFTER the teacher has given permission

Sit quietly while you wait for your row to be called and exit out the correct door quietly

Computer Use and Procedures:


Students may be issued a laptop to use during class. Students will be expected to follow the JMCSS Board Policy regarding
computer use at all times. All computers must be returned to their appropriate cart prior to the student leaving the building. If a
computer is used inappropriately in class, a student will lose their ability to use the computer for the remainder of the quarter.

1 Avancemos - Spanish E-textbook
Access the textbook by visiting my.hrw.com. Students will be given their username and password in class during the
beginning of the semester.
If a student needs a hard copy version of the textbook, please let the teacher know.

Grading Policy
Grading:
Classwork Grades (30%): Class work assignments, jaguar jumpstarts, quizzes or any other work completed in class.
Assessments (60%) : Each nine weeks we will cover two unites. Students will take a test over each unit and also a test
over everything covered that nine weeks.
Daily Work (10%): This will include homework assignments, some of the jaguar jumpstarts, exit tickets, vocabulary
assignemnts.
Late Work Policy: All missing assignments will have 10% deducted from the students overall score. It is the students
responsibility to check PowerSchool and ask the teacher about missing work. All missing work is due 1 week before the
end of the grading period.
PowerSchool Parent Portal: Please check your childs grades weekly using the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Reference the
letter you received at orientation or on the 1st day of school.
Assignment and Assessment re-dos: Students have one opportunity each quarter to re-do one quiz or test for grade
modification. Re-do must be completed within five school days of student receiving graded quiz/test. It is the students
responsibility to submit a Re-do Request. Re-dos will receive an automatic 10 point reduction.

Make-up Work and Grade Replacement Policies


Make-Up Work:
Students are responsible for coming to the teacher to get missing assignments. Students are allowed 2 days for each day
they are absent to make-up assignments. Any work received after the two-day deadline will follow the late work policy. If you
know you will be out for an extended period, you may request make-up work in advance. However, please allow at least 2 days
for teachers to prepare the materials and send them home.
