the expression written in bold or finding what is implied in the whole text.

76
UTS Guide to Distance Turkish Test

In each level, every reading text has 3 questions. When you answer a question
and proceed to the next one in any text, the same text will appear on the
screen but another question will be asked about the text.
We recommend you to pursue following order; read the instructions, question
root and then the choices. The allocated time for 27 questions in the
Reading Section is 40 minutes in total, which means that you have 80 seconds
on average per question. Since a specified time is given for the whole questions
and that there is no chance of returning to the previous question, we suggest you
to think carefully until you are sure about the answer. However, be careful
not to spare more than 80 seconds for any question. Although 3 different
questions are asked for the same reading text, all the 3 questions require
reading it for several times and focusing on different points in the text.
Therefore, it would be useful for you to read the instructions first and then
re-read the text of the question. Answering a question in less than 80 seconds
will enable you to spare more time for the rest of the questions.

The Goals of the Reading Questions

55th, 64th and 73rd Questions: Recognizing the words or phrases which are relevant or irrelevant in
terms of meaning.

56th, 65th and 74th Questions: Being able to relate the pronouns and the referential expressions to
the sources.

57th, 66th and 75th Questions: Drawing conclusions from the text and distinguishing between the
irrelevant ones.

58th, 67th and 76th Questions: Understanding the main topic of the text.

59th, 68th and 77th Questions: Distinguishing the things mentioned or not mentioned in the text.

60th, 69th and 78th Questions: Making an inference or inferences and distinguishing between the
relevant ones through the text.

61st, 70th and 79th Questions: Understanding the main idea of the text.

62nd, 71st and 80th Questions: Linking the phrases due to cause & effect, objection & reason and
meronymy correlations and noticing that the text has skipped to another subject or it is on the same
subject.

63rd, 72nd and 81st Questions: Discerning the mood, the approach, the goal of the writer.

In this section, you will generally be assessed on your ability to comprehend

and give appropriate responses to the questions in the processes of the spoken
interactions likely to happen in real communication situations. The correctness
of the grammatical structures and lexical items to the level of the certificate
test you have taken, fluency of the speech and appropriateness of stress and
intonation in this speech will be taken into consideration during evaluation.
We recommend that you should reply to the questions in the Spoken
Interaction Section with long sentences including the items in the interrogative
sentence as much as possible, rather than just providing short answers like
Yes or No. If you want, you can make some additional comments to
strengthen your answers. As the main goal of the Spoken Interaction questions is
to assess whether or not you comprehend and give relevant responses to the
questions, you do not have to provide real information about your identity,
personality, social status and private life.
You may find yourself in different social roles while answering some of the
questions in this section (e.g., a shop customer, a traffic policeman is asked
a direction or a shop assistant in a clothing store etc.) Please try to provide
explanatory replies to these questions in a way that the context requires.

UTS Guide to Distance Turkish Test

Spoken Production Section has the questions that assess your ability on how
fluent and flawless you can produce a planned speech in a way which is
appropriate to your level in the fields of word choice, syntactic structures
and sentence relevance. Appropriate pronunciation of individual words,
correct intonation of sentences and a fluent speech without long pauses or
hesitations are the essential elements that will be taken into consideration
during the evaluation process. While preparing for your speech, you can
take notes and make a speech outline by bringing a paper and pen with you
beforehand.
Question roots in the Spoken Production Section determine and narrow
your speech in terms of topic, content and style. The question root in the first
Spoken Production question (in 97th question) defines a social interaction
situation and puts you into a position in which you are expected to reply
orally. Note that, you are expected to make a proper speech that is appropriate to
topic, content and style. For the second question (in 98th question), you need
to focus your speech on the visual. There are not any absolutely correct
descriptions, explanations and comments for the visuals in this question,
hence you can be as subjective as you wish. You will be given a main topic
and some subtopics related with the main topic in the third (in 99th) question.
You do not need to talk about all the subtopics while delivering your speech.

Goals of the Spoken Production Questions

97th Question: Expressing a request, apology, problem, suggestion, objection, disapproval, etc.
according to the situation.
98th Question: Narrating the events in terms of action, occurrence, relationships and composition.
99th Question: Building narrative relations between certain phrases and concepts.
