Sub : Offer for Pressure Reducing Station for the new plant expansion.

Dear Sir,

We thank you for the courtesy extended during my visit to your plant on 01 st July 2010.
With reference to above subject and as per our study of the plant, we are pleased to
submit our proposal for effective pressure reduction in the main stream header for the
different process.

Observation during plant study

It is observed that the old steam pressure reducing station is not in use from a long time.
Also since plant expansion is taken place, hence the dimensions of the old PRS is not
match with existing required dimensions, so it is recommended that to go with the new
pressure reducing station with all required dimensions.

Post our visit to site and subsequent discussions we are pleased to offer our quote for
Pressure Reducing Station as below.

Air Venting
Before to go with the concepts of air venting we must have to see the Barriers to Heat
Transfer without the air venting with the temperature profile.

It is too often overlooked that when steam is first admitted to a line after a period of shut
down, the pipe will usually be full of air. Further amounts of air and other non-
condensable gases will enter with the steam, although the proportions of these gases
are normally very small compared to the steam. Nevertheless, these gases will
accumulate within the pipe, and in the steam spaces of the heat exchangers, when the
steam condenses, unless steps are taken to discharge them.

Automatic air vents for steam systems are nothing more than thermostatic steam traps,
fitted above the level of any condensate, so that only steam, air or air/steam mixtures
can reach them. They are usually best located at the ends of the steam mains and the
larger diameter branches. The above slide shows the use of a tee piece to provide
convenient air venting and condensate drainage connections.

The discharge from the air vent can be piped to any safe place. In practice, it often is
taken into the condensate line, when this is a gravity line falling towards a vented
receiver.

It should be noted here that the subject of "Air Venting" of steam using appliances is
dealt with in the training package "Steam Trapping and Air Venting".

Condensate Recovery Pump

During the observation and continuous discussion with the Mr. Chatterjee it is found that
in the earlier capacity of the plant there is no condensate recovery done. We like to
quote the condensate recovery pump unit for recovering the condensate from the
process and fed to the feed water tank and take the maximum utilization of the
condensate temperature.
Advantages of PPPU condensate recovery system.
1) No use of electricity, it is self acting,
2) Can feed max. Achievable temp. To the feed water tank.
3) This is a steam operated automatic pump which is unaffected by high
temperature of condensate and will transfer condensate immediately on receipt.
4) Moreover since this pump is steam operated, cost of operation and maintenance
is negligible.
The problems facing with the condensate recovery by the centrifugal pump.
1) Centrifugal pump cannot transfer fluid more than 70 deg.c,
2) Extra Electricity consumption to run centrifugal pump,
3) Cannot transfer maximum condensate temperature in the feed water tank, hence
fuel consumed to heat lower temp. water is more,
4) Cannot measure the exact quantity of the condensate coming from the plant.
Total Steam utilization in to the plant approx. 2700kg/hr. condensate from the plant is
collected into the PPPPU and then it feded to the Feed Water Tank.Avg. Hight Of Feed
Water tank 6m.

DEAERATOR HEAD IN FEED WATER TANK

Deaerators head in the feed water tank is used to ensure thorough mix feed water,
condensate and flash steam and also to remove the dissolved gases like O2 present in the
water. Deaerators are designed to remove dissolved gases from the boiler feed water they
are effective & oxygen can be reduced to trace levels. The water enters the Deaerators &
is broken into a spray or mist & scrubbed with steam & hot condensate return to force out
dissolved gases. The released gases are then discharged to atmosphere through the vent
outlet. This not only reduces in the cost of chemicals but also limits the increase in boiler
TDS due to such chemicals.

Steam Flow Meter

Also it is found that there is no steam flow meter for measuring the actual steam
generation in to the plant. So for that we like to recommend that the every plant should
have the steam flow meter and like to offer you the same.
The main benefits for using steam flow metering include:

 Monitoring Specific Fuel / Specific Steam Consumption

 Monitoring Steam : Fuel Ratio and understanding Boiler Efficiency

 Diagnostic Tool towards Accurate Control of Energy Management

 Monitoring Individual Equipment / Section Efficiencies

 Identification of Major Steam Users

 Better Process Control

 Final Product Costing
