Since the US colonial rulers naturally wanted to discourage revolution against their regime,
they chose Rizal over Bonifacio as the Philippines national hero.

The message was interpreted by the activists as reflecting their view that it was Bonifacio who
most deserved the title of No. 1 Filipino hero.

The Taft Commission, which functioned as the US colonial administration in the Philippines
from 1900 to 1904, passed Act No. 37, creating the Province of Rizal out of the military district
of Morong in honor of Dr. Rizal.

The act did not formally declare Rizal a national hero, nor proclaim a national holiday in his
honor. Besides, the Taft Commission represented a foreign government that had gained power
through force and could not speak for the Filipino people.

General Aguinaldo, acknowledged leader of the de facto Philippine Republic, proclaimed Rizal
a national hero ahead of the American colonial administration.

In compliance with his decree of Dec. 20, 1898, the people of Daet, Camarines Norte,
immediately started a subscription for the building of a monument for Dr. Rizal at the towns

American War on Feb. 1.

Hence, the proclamation of Rizal as a national hero was an authentic act of the Filipino people
even before the United States officially consolidated its rule. By no means can it be said that
he was an American-sponsored hero.

If at all, in supposedly choosing Rizal as our national hero, Taft was only abiding by the popular

The proclamation of Bonifacio as a national hero was made by the Philippine Legislature,
composed of duly elected Filipino representatives of the Philippine Legislature, then enjoying
self-rule under the American colonial regime.

He, too, should be considered a genuine choice of the Filipinos as a national hero despite the
objection of the American administration that he was too much of a revolutionary.

Bonifacio, like Rizal, has also suffered from historical revisionism. The most recent revisionist
writing about Bonifacio was that by Bryan C. Paraiso, a senior historical sites development
officer of the National Historical Commission.

In Paraisos article published by the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Nov. 30, 2012, on the occasion
of Bonifacios 149th birth anniversary, the hero reveals fervor in his writings. Paraiso described
Bonifacio as an elusive historical character.

Paraiso went so far as to favorably quote an American historian, Glenn Anthony May, that the

May, who has written a number of controversial books on Philippine history emphasizing the
role of the elite in the Philippine revolution and in the armed resistance against American

Paraiso rejected the judgment of Filipino historians like Epifanio de los Santos, who had tried
to vindicate the image of Bonifacio against his detractors.

Paraiso considered the writings of De los Santos and other Filipino historians subjective
interpretation, implying that the foreigners interpretation of Philippine history is objective.

In fact, the observations of the American historians on our anticolonial struggles could just as
well carry bias to justify the colonial conquests of our country.

But is it necessary and helpful for Filipinos to pit their heroes against each other, endlessly
debating who are more deserving of popular adoration?

Unique role
Purisim
Every hero plays his own unique role in history, which is that to defend and promote the
Mamas
interests of the nation at any particular time of national crisis, sacrificing his or her own life
and self-interest.

George Washington and Abraham Lincoln are both American primary heroes performing
different roles at different times in their countrys historical development. They, too, had their
critics.

Rizal consciously planted and nourished the seed of nationalism. In his novels, essays and
proclamations he promoted the idea of freedom and the eventuality of national independence.
Napea
At first Rizal advocated reforms. But when the plea for reforms failed, he advocated
independence, even through revolution. This is evident in his novel Noli Me Tangere, which

emphasized reforms, and its sequel, El Filibusterismo, which preached revolution. operati

Rizals principal essays, The Indolence of the Filipinos, and The Philippines a Century Hence,
argued for an end to colonialism, by reforms if possible, and, if not, through revolution.

Bonifacio read the novels of Rizal and possibly his two nationalistic essays that were published
by La Solidaridad, the periodical of reformist Filipino emigres in Madrid, which Rizal had joined
but which he later left when he finally realized that their agitation for reforms were falling on
the deaf ears. It was then that Rizal wrote the Fili.

La Liga Filipina

It was Rizals writings and his growing reputation as a leader of Filipino nationalism that led
Bonifacio in 1892 to join Rizals La Liga Filpina, an organization that was in essence a shadow
government for an independent nation.

The organization of the Liga by Rizal was cited in the indictment against him as one of the acts
of treason he allegedly had committed against the Spanish regime.

The stated aims of the Liga, including, To unite the whole archipelago into one compact,
vigorous and homogenous body, were correctly interpreted by the Spanish authorities as an
attempt at separatism. This led the Spanish government to exile Rizal to the fastnesses of

Mindanao. He was eventually executed upon conviction of treason.

In his memoirs of the Philippine Revolution, Apolinario Mabini recalled that he met Bonifacio at
the organization of the Liga. After Rizals banishment on July 6, 1892, Bonifacio and a handful
of other members of the Liga tried to keep it alive by continuing to solicit contributions for La
Solidaridad.

Mabini, was elected secretary of the Supreme Council of the Liga after Rizals arrest. He later
became president of the Cabinet of President Aguinaldo and secretary of foreign affairs in the
first Philippine Republic that fought the United States for independence.

The late former Sen. Claro M. Recto, the greatest Filipino nationalist of our time, in a speech in
1960 to a civic convention in Baguio City, identified Rizal, the poet, thinker, realist; Bonifacio,
the idealist man of action; and Mabini, the statesman, as three of the greatest nationalists
this country has produced.

Katipunan

When the Liga finally dissolved because of disagreements among its officers, Bonifacio formed
the Katipunan, which was totally dedicated to the objective of overthrowing the Spanish
colonial government through armed revolution.

Bonifacio had come to the conclusion that the period for petitions had ended, and that
revolution had become an imperative.

The Katipunan was therefore a direct outgrowth of the Liga Filipina. Bonifacio used the name
of Jose Rizal as one of the passwords for the members of the secret society. It was an
acknowledgment by Bonifacio that Rizal was his mentor and inspiration, if not his leader.

All revolutions start out with petitions for reforms. Thus it was with the French, Russian and
American revolutions. The US Declaration of Independence states: In every state of these
Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated
Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury.

The rejection of the petitions for reforms by the La Solidaridad propagandists, including
representation in the Spanish parliament, paved the way for the bloody Katipunan revolution
for separatism.

In his seminal essay, The Philippines A Century Hence, published by La Solidaridad from
Sept. 30, 1898, to Feb. 1, 1890, Rizal wrote that if the reforms were not granted, the Philippines
one day will declare herself inevitably and unmistakably independent . Necessity is the
strongest god the world knows, and necessity is the result of physical laws put into action by

moral forces.

Rizal planted the seed of revolution, and Bonifacio watered it. They were the twins of historical
necessity. The dynamic of history brought them together, each to fulfill fated roles in the
struggle of our people for nation-building and independence.

That their legacies should be made to compete against each other goes against the law of
history, which mandates that each historical figure, like every generation, has a definite role to
play in the destiny of a nation.

Divide and rule

Revisionists are employing the time-honored colonial tactic of divide and rule to impose and
perpetuate their dominance over conquered peoples.

Those who play this game, pitting our heroes against each other, and planting seeds of
suspicion about their worth, are playing the game of our former colonial masters.

As Recto said in the same speech, A firm belief in the genius of our race and in the capacity of
the people for advancement toward the attainment of their destiny is another basic
component of nationalism. Destroy that nationalism and you destroy the nation.

After all, colonialism does not end in the mere overthrow of the colonial power. Colonial
institutions are left behind, especially after 400 years of foreign domination (350 by the
Spaniards and 50 by the Americans).

There are leftovers of colonialism that must be swept away completely before the colonial
subjects can be totally free, especially when they are embedded in the habits of the mind.

The destruction of the characters of national heroes are tantamount to sabotage of the nations
strength and noble purposes.

Continued efforts to annihilate the message of Rizal by preaching that he had retracted his
writings is a subterfuge to destroy nationalism.

The same goes with efforts to mythologize the persona of Rizals partner in nationalism and
revolution, Bonifacio.

Bertolt Brecht, European poet and playwright, in his play, Galileo, has written, Unhappy the
land that needs heroes.

The Philippines is an unhappy land of misery, poverty and underdevelopment. It needs heroes.
Why destroy them?

Paraiso denigrated Bonifacio even on the occasion of his death anniversary, which the nation
reverently observed.

Paraiso said, Fate has been unkind to Bonifacio. His mystery-shrouded life ended in
ignominious death.

According to the American Heritage Dictionary, ignominious means marked by shame or

disgrace: dishonorable.

It is bad enough that this honorable and courageous son of the people (anak ng bayan)
should be called a myth by an obscure American historian, and his death should be called
shameful or disgraceful by an employee of the National Historical Commission of the
Philippines.

The courage of Bonifacio

It is true that Bonifacio was executed by an order of Aguinaldo in a struggle for power within
the revolutionary movement. But Bonifacio faced his fate bravely, with the same invincible
courage that he had mustered in building the revolutionary movement from a handful of
patriots to thousands of poorly armed zealous partisans eager to lay down their lives for
freedom and independence.

Bonifacio did this through four long years of painstaking recruitment in secret rites in
darkened rooms under the very noses of the increasingly nervous colonial and clerical
authorities, with every moment fraught with the danger of discovery, torture and death.

And finally, when the movement was inadvertently discovered, he launched the revolution
armed only with a revolver, assaulting a military arsenal, igniting the revolutionary war that
vindicated and upheld the honor and manhood of generations of Filipinos who had been
chained in colonial thrall for three and a half centuries.

Following disagreements in the ranks of the revolutionaries, Bonifacio was shot and wounded
as he resisted capture by soldiers he considered renegades to the revolution.

His captor, Col. Lazaro Makapagal, claimed that Bonifacio shed bitter tears when, together
with his brother, he faced certain death, but he did not beg for his life, and the tears he shed
were certainly due to his frustration that the revolutionary movement that he led to fruition
was in danger of disaster.

Bonifacios background showed that whatever his faults, lack of courage was not one of them.

As the quintessential revolutionary, Mao Zedong said, A revolution is not a dinner party, or

writing an essay, or painting a picture, or doing embroidery; . A revolution is an insurrection,

an act of violence by which one class overthrows another. It is not so orderly like romantic
fiction.

Ratified by the people

Yes, Bonifacios death was a personal tragedy. But it was not ignominious.

Even as he considered himself a victim of injustice by some of his fellow revolutionaries, he did
not abandon the revolution.

He decided to leave Cavite, the province of his factional adversaries, to continue to fight the
revolution elsewhere.

Heroes are those who have a concept of nation and therefore aspire and struggle for the
nations freedom, said the technical committee of the National Heroes Commission in a report
to President Fidel V. Ramos on June 3, 1993.

Rizal and Bonifacio met that standard completely. They are, so far, the only heroes who have
been honored by decree and law with national holidays. The rest are equally honored with
special holidays.

The members of the committee who drafted the criteria for heroes were recognized historians
and writers: Dr. Onofre D. Corpuz, Samuel K. Tan, Marcelino Foronda, Alfredo Lagmay,
Bernardito R. Churchill, Serafin D. Quiason, Ambeth Ocampo (then known as the monk Dom
Ignacio Maria), Prof. Minerva Gonzales and Carmen Guerrero-Nakpil.

Other historical figures

The committee recommended nine other historical figures to be recognized as national heroes
in a report to the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (Decs) in a report on Nov. 22,
1995.

But the Decs took no action on the recommendation for fear that it would stir controversy.

Rizal and Bonifacio, who had already been declared national heroes by acts of Congress, led
the list of heroes made by the committee.

The choice of Rizal and Bonifacio as the foremost national heroes has been ratified by the
Filipino people through many generations as evidenced by the statues erected spontaneously
in their honor in towns and cities throughout the archipelago.

Historical revisionism, for whatever reason, will not erase this heartfelt veneration in concrete
and stone by all Filipinos nationwide.

I Still considered Rizal as our national Hero; Bonifacio is just second to Rizal.

As the saying goes The Pen is mightier than the Sword.

Intelligence, knowledge, aspiration and courage are traits owned by Rizal. He acquired
vast knowledge through education and experience besides he is multi-talented- he was
exceptionally gifted, very very few individuals had such gifts.

Anyone can hold a sword, anyone brave can wield a sword but not everyone can wield a

I agree Bonifacio and Rizal are our foremost national heroes. Since the Marcos time,
spearheaded by his descendant (Cesar Virata), Aguinaldos image is being rehabilitated
and his role in history being revised. I do not agree that this controversial figure be

In the infancy period of our history as a nation, Rizal planted the seed of revolution and
Bonifacio watered it. Along the way, many lives were lost and many heroes were hailed
as it grew from infancy to adolescent to young adult.

In its adolescent, a new set of heroes blurted out from out of the blue and one name
stood out-Ninoy.
It was Ninoy who planted the seed of changes and Cory watered it. Ninoy had to sacrifice
his life in seeding the changes in our fragile democracy, which was being converted into
a garrison state by a des//potic dic///tator Marcos then his wife, the iconic Cory watered
the seed by instituting reforms after the ouster of the dic///tator.
Cory had to endure coups after coups by hardliners enrile and honasan, who,
incidentally never had it so good when they were still in good graces with the dictator
and turned traitor only when they found out they were being eased out of the inner
circles of the dictator. Their turning against the dictator was not born out of love for the
of country but for the love of themselves.

Cory, true to to her words, relinquished her mandate as promised and ramos went from
there.

Then like a thi///ef in the night, another nightmare came out, supported by the bishops,
who cant distinguish a right from wrong, a decent from indecent and a honest from
dishonest. That nightmare-GMA.

As the nation grows to a young adult, the people, led by an incorruptible son of Ninoy
and cory, Pnoy, also grow.

The nation is slowly growing to a young fine man. GMAs trusted trained dog CJ Corona
was impeached and ombudsman Gutierrez resigned to evade embarrassment. GMA is
now in jail for plunder and many crimes she has to face without bail. RH was passed and
the people rejoiced.

The economy is starting to take-off as confidence in economy and in government grows

to a highest level. This feeling of confidence has never been felt for years because the

to what the bishops, GMAs supporters and pnoys critics are saying.

These green-eyed monsters, most especially the bishops, even after RH was passed
continue to spread lies in trying to paint Pnoy as unfit president. Unfortunately for the
bishops, the more they lie, the more the people look up to Pnoy as the best to lead us,
just like, but an irony, when the bishops blessed corona for his acquittal in
impeachment, the blessing turned out to be the curse for his conviction.

Our nation is still very young. In 2016, another candidate in the mold of gma and
appears to be a pandak na maligno is rating high in surveys. The nation may be heading
to another nightmare in 2016 unless this pandak na maligno is exposed for what he
really is, a maligno, then our nation will grow as a responsible adult able to compete
against anyone in the global neighborhood. .

And besides, the damage brought forth by the winter season under GMA was
so severe, that the repair works being done in spring will not be easy.

remember their examples and move forward, being aware that the struggle to be a free

It may be true that Jose Rizal planted the seed of nationalism- the organic Determinant
of National Actions or DNA. Andres Bonificio carried it to pass it on to all generations of
us, filipinos.

In a letter to his mother, Jose Rizal wrote: I had a lawsuit with the Chinese and I vowed
not to buy any more from them, so that sometimes I find myself very hard up. Now we
have almost neither dishes nor tumblers.

Edgar Wickberg, who wrote The Chinese in Philippine Life 1850-1898 said that in 1895,
while in exile in Dapitan in Mindanao, in the southern Philippines, Jose Rizal was filled
with righteous indignation at the exploitation of the natives by the Chinese traders, and
appealed to the local residents to boycott the Chinese shops. He also opened a small
sari-sari store to compete against the Chinese.

Nick Joaquin, the late Philippine cultural icon, even praised Rizals actions: And because
Chinese financiers had a stranglehold on native agriculture, Rizal set up the Cooperative
Association of Dapitan Farmers, a pioneer in economic nationalism.

Andres Bonifacio, leader of the armed revolution, had related in a letter how his troops
once raided some twenty Chinese stores and emptied them of their food supplies.

The Father of the Philippine Army, and hero of our country, Gen Artemio Ricarte included

Around November of 1924, we developed check points set up for identifying and

checking further foreign infiltration. However, the United States government, with
their military might to back up their policies, dismantled them. An editorial

appeared on June 5, 1926 in The Tribune. It made a comment regarding: the

chinese making a plaything of our exclusion laws; their out maneouvering us from
the start of our border checking operations, making a fool out of us.

At the same time we filipinos took physical actions in parts of Luzon and Manila to
dismantle chinese establishments. Unfortunately, the U.S. established auxilliary
corps of their armed forces- the Philippine Constabulary, blocked our actions.

We were gaining control of our nation had not for U.S. intervention. It gave foreign
invaders room for manoeuvre against our own series of manoeuvres thru legal
operations with the Retail Trade Nationalization Law in 1954. After we
implemented this law, some 8700 of the 10,000 chinese who rushed to get hold of
certificate of filipino citizenship papers after 1946, did so after 1954. Except on
paper, the number of chinese able to control retail trade was still the same.

Today, Henry Sy, Lucio Tan, Black Sand Miners, Lucio Co, rice cartels, Danding
Cojuangco and many others destroying our nationhood have taken over control of
development of our nation.

Today, we filipinos have lost possession of our lands and control of our
development. But today, we will recover our DNA we inherited from our elders, and
recover possession and control of our nation.

Dr. Jose Rizal is the best Chinese who adopted the Philippines body and soul. We need
Chinese like him who really accepts the Philippines as his HOME. Unlike the present
generation of Chinese whose only motive is to enrich themselves at the expense of the
Filipinos, Dr. Jose Rizal is an exception. We see thousands of example on how the present
crop of Chinese has cheated the Filipinos in many ways.

Go to Divisoria whole sale stores. If you are a Filipino, the price of items are so expensive
unlike if you are a Chinese. The Store will sell you a different price much cheaper than
the price they sell to the Filipinos. This is the reason why Filipino merchant are at the
disadvantage. Also, Chinese are selling fake, substandard, and short selling which
means, the weight and specification of products they sell to Filipinos is below
expectation. They would even miss-brand so many products. The Chinese sell fake and
cheap Chinese products and pass it on as Del Monte Fruit cocktail, the soap from China
Love is fake as Dove U.S. product by changing the letter L in Love with D as Dove soap.
Take the case of Libbys Corn Beef (U.S.) which are really cheap Maling. Name brand
perfume is also a favorite target of Chinese. If I mention all these cheating s the
Chinese does to the disadvantage of Filipino buyers, this space would not be enough.

How can we say that these Filipino-Chinese are playing a level playing field if they resort
to cheating.

There is also the case of election. Many Filipino-Chinese has occupied high positions in
the government because once they get their post, they would appoint Chinese, their
comrades, in government positions, again, to the disadvantage of the Filipinos.

And the Universal fact that stronger race would sooner or later take over the control of
inferior race is very much accepted. The Filipinos is always at the loosing end when it
comes to the competition against the Filipino-Chinese group because Filipinos would
venture in anything by himself while Chinese are back up by Chinese Chamber of
Commerce. Their financial and technical support is unlimited. Take a newly opened
Chinese Hardware. Where on earth can you see a merchant whose merchandise are
complete to the smallest detail? In fact, once a Chinese merchant open up his business,
he has already have Filipino servant working in their business. The Chinese Owner can

not even speak a simple native Filipino dialect, which means that he is not really a
legitimate businessmen, but an illegal alien that has been sent here to do business. Go
to Divisoria and see for your self the hundreds of Chinese merchant who can not speak
tagalog yet, they are allowed by our Chinese Dominated Government as though they
have not violated our law against illegal migrants doing business here.

Mind you, the Chinese sphere of Influence which the American government has
predicted is very much alive in our country. We need another Dr. Jose Rizal to fight for
our national sovereignty and foster our nationalism.

The Filipinos is in great disadvantage because from the Conquestadores Spaniards who
burnt and erase our culture, from the first Americans who took control of the Philippines
from the Spaniards, the Japanese who maltreated us during WW II, now the Chinese. We
never have been free from foreign intrusion. We have been a conquered nation ever
since. An we have the problem of national identity. Many of us does not know who were
really are. There is an absent of NATIONALISM which is inherent to any nation on earth.

We have allowed the Chinese take-over without firing a single shot.

Jose Rizal, with all due respect to his wishes, is first and foremost, an Indio Puro
or a Filipino Puro.

A document was shown Jose Rizal to which he drew attention to the fact that he
was
incorrectly described as a chinese mestizo, saying that he was an indio puro.
This is from a report by Austin Coates. He is someone acquainted with the family
of the sister of Jose Rizal- Narcisa. Austin Coates reported in 1960 in Rizal:
Philippine Nationalist and Martyr published by the Oxford University Press:

It was Rizal who established using the term indio as our badge of racial pride!
we shall become Indios Bravos! This is reported in 1997 by Asuncion Lopez-Rizal
Bantug
with Sylvia Mendez Ventura in, Indio Bravo: The Story of Jose Rizal.

Rizal further declared: I do not agree. This is unjust! Here it says that I am a half-
breed, and it isnt true! I am a pure Filipino! This is reported by a filipino lawyer
and diplomat Leon Ma. Guerrero in First Filipino, which won the first prize in the
1961 Rizal biography writing competition sponsored by the Jose Rizal National
Centennial Commission.

As Jose Rizal wished, he is not a malay, nor a chinese, but an Indio Puro or a
Filipino Puro.

Rizal PLANTED SEED of revolution; Bonifacio WATERED IT.

I dont buy this that Rizal planted the seed and Bonifacio watered it.
First of all, Bonifacio was a TABAK revolutionario, he probably cut the seed when it
started to grow that made the Spaniard angry..

Second, Rizal might be a Hero, a rebel hero against Spain during a short period when
Spain is about to abandon the Philippines.
He cannot be a true Filipino hero as his name is Rizal, there is no letter Z in our ABAKADA
for him to be called truly Filipino hero.

I would rather prefer LAPU LAPU as the Hero of our time.truly filipino, home grown.
His name is Lapu lapu without family name, a name during that time.
He was the one who planted the seed of revolution and he cut Magellan and his men
with his Itak and TABAK.

Ang mga manunulat noon, may pen name Rizal is the pen name of our hero. Dr.
Jose Rizals parents were Teodora Alonzo, the mother and Francisco Mercado, the
father.

ApoNiLolo

Wrong! Jose took the Rizal surname (his paternal grandmothers maiden
name) to disassociate him from Paciano so he could enroll in Letran. Paciano
was kick-out from Letran because of his subversive activities while studying
there.

You should not make-up stories to justify what you thought to be true. Read
and research is the key to arrive to a correct conclusion.

Look what happen to our claim to the Panatag group of Island. Our
Filipino-Chinese President dismally failed to protect our country against the
Chinese intrusion. We withdraw our ONLY navy ship, the American donated Coast
Guard Cutter from Scarborough Shoal during the standoff. He lied when he said,
the Chinese has declared fish ban in the said area even if it was not
true. He stopped former militaryman Faeldon to proceed to Scarborough Shoal to
make a show of force by going there with hundreds of Filipino fishermen.
He is reluctant to file the case to UNCLOS or United Nation Convention on Laws
of the Sea, to the disadvantage of our country.

PNoy our President, a Filipino-Chinese busy himself selling our

government lands and government Corporation to the Chinese. He is even silent,
pretending not to notice it, but our precious minerals like gold,
silver, copper, aluminum etc, are being stolen by the Chinese by operating

mines that are not listed. These Chinese businessmen or firms would even import
illegal Chinese miner to our country. How many times did our Bureau of
IMmigaration caught there Chinese miners in our country. And yet, PNoy, our
Filipino-Chinese President does not seem to give so much attention on what is
happening around. Our Chinese Dominated Legislative Branch is also at fault.
Why do we not institute death penalty to Chinese and Taiwanese Chemist who
manufacture these illegal drugs. YAWA! While our military
are targeting our indigenous people who are merely protecting their
birth-right to their ancestral land, PNoy has not even made an statement on
what is happening around. Take the case of that Italian priest who was
dastardly murdered in Cotobato for fighting for the cause of the indigenous
people. It is a fact that the military has a hand on the killing, yet, our
Filipino-Chinese President is closing his ears and eyes to the injustice.

Remember, when PNoy, our Filipino-Chinese President before he took

his office as our President made an Oath in the Luneta Grand Stand to defend
our Constitution and our Sovereignty. He he he. What happen now, the Chinese
has already extracting oil and gas in our PANATAG shoal and PNoy is just making
bungisngis. Is this the kind of President we want? He has committed
an act of TREASON for selling our land and government properties to the Chinese
through his Public Private Partnership, yet, nobody seems to care.

Remember the native Hawaiians, remember the American Indians,

the Eskimo of Canada and Alaska, the indigenous people of
Australia, they are now a vanishing breed. Their country is no longer their
own. We might wake up one day, and that day is just around the corner and
realize that the Philippines is no longer in the hands of the Filipinos. I will
run as Independent Mayor Candidate here in Q.C. precisely to defend our
country. Once elected, I will send a strong message to these Filipino-Chinese
to mend their ways. It is not yet too late.

The next Filipino politicians that came after Aquinaldo learned all their corruption from
him and for being a traitor when collaborated with the Japanese. Aguinaldo and his
government ministers agreed to dissolve the
rebel government and go into exile in Hong Kongthey received legal amnesty and an
indemnity of 800,000
Mexican dollars. When Japan seized the Philippines during World War II, Aguinaldo
cooperated with the occupation. He joined the Japanese-sponsored

Unschooled as Bonifacio was, he knew, as if by instinct that

Imperialist Spain would not give up the spoils

Rizal was a landed ilustrado just like the ones Uncle Sam used as

What a revolution it is where the brave died and the killer lives and glorified. So when

The problem is that books and propaganda had instilled into the minds of the filipino
that the pen is more powerful than the gun. If you noticed on rizals writings that he is
putting a small hint that ultimately a violent revolution is inevitable if the spaniards will
not grant his petition. But Rizal is a coward in my book and a hopeless romantic which
got scared when bonifacio asked his support for the upcoming revolution. Bonifacio
sacrificed everything while Rizal enjoyed a privileged life and most of his writings are
just a bunch of delusional ideas which the stupid nostalgic filipinos love to read.
Eventually here we are, our society are a bunch of more words less action type of people.
We love to revise other peoples ideas and bask on the accomplishment of others and
label it an accomplishment and pride of the Philippines. Rizal is a hero but not to be
considered as the same level than Bonifacio. Andres Bonifacio should be the true
National Hero.
About Aguinaldo? I see the likes of him still exist especially in the senate.like Enrile.

But he retracted everything before he died. also, why he wrote everything in

spanish? it was only later translated in tagalog. how can filipino who doesnt
understand spanish read it?

http://www-blogjosemig200905com.blogspot.com/ Jose Miguel

Garcia

He wrote in spanish precisely because we filipinos from north to south at

that time understood spanish. In 1863, Queen Isabel II had decreed the
establishment of the public school system in the Philippines. This implies
that teachers assigned to it would instruct their students in Spanish.

Even up to 1916, when we were already under U.S. occupation, after several
years of our resistance to their invasion to which we only surrendered after
they resorted to massive hostage-taking and extermination of the civilians
among us, Henry Ford made a report to the president of the United States
based on his travels through the islands, using ordinary transportation and
mixing with all classes of people under all conditions. He stated that
Spanish is: everywhere the language of business and social intercourse;
almost indispensable in order for anyone to obtain prompt service from
anyone, in and outside of Manila; being customarily used by the Americans
who travel around all the islands.

Alarmed by such a uniting factor, the U.S. aggressor forces utilized education
to cut off the potency of our defense system right in our minds. This is
where the foundation of our Determinant of National Actions are located.
Generals Otis and McArthur, facilitated North American of the United States
schools, selection of textbooks, assigning of soldiers from the U.S.
occupational forces as chaplains, superintendent of schools, and, as
teachers.

It was the United States of North American aggressor forces who cut off the
Spanish Language from the Philippines.

Ronald_18

Its still debatable,. whether Rizal retracted or not. Reports of Rizal retracts
came from the priests, they are suspected of being biased for their fate and
not to fuel up the revolution.

I dont think Rizal retracted. His family suffered a lot from the

Spanish authorities and even himself. Also, the priests in our country
suppressed the Filipinos for reading his two novels until Recto and the
government passed the Rizal law.

i believe before the passage of Rizal law RCC made all the lobbying just to
put this law to rest but just like with RH bill they failed, however, RCC was
able to work around Rizal law by influencing our government to provide the
schools with castrated edition of all his writings specially Noli and El Fili,
almost all the details of dirty works of damasos were gone.

ApoNiLolo

I may not like how patrickinca sees Rizal, but what, may I ask, was Rizals
intention when he wrote the book?

http://Inquirer.net/ AlzheimersC

Simply put Rizal really wanted a revolution

You see according to Fili, the reason why that rebellion didnt succeeded
because the main characters like Basilio and Isagani change their minds
when the rebellion is about to be launch as was planned by Simoun but the
grounds for rebellion are very compelling especially to the READERS like us
and especially to the Filipinos who read at that era

Rizal laid the ground work why they should hate the Spanish authorities and
only revolution would be the logical solution

Why Ibarra posing as Simoun accepted what Father Florentino explained to

him why God was so mean to him when his planned revolution never
succeeded its because hes already dying and no matter what he says its all
for naught and perhaps he still have faith to God and his reservation about
that belief in God might be true somehow? in death!!!

But the important aspect I guess is that no matter what are the obstacles like
Isaganis love? or the death of the leader of revolution(Simoun) and the
gripping faith to God would not deter those who want to have a revolution
for the sake of saving the country from oppressive Spanish
colonizers(especially the church

revolution) should not be the reason that a revolution would not be carried

ApoNiLolo

The same assessment as my college class (w/ some small variation) when we
studied the book in our Rizal subject way back then.

What I was wondering was; why belie patrickincas understanding when his
interpretation concurs with ours?

http://Inquirer.net/ AlzheimersC

Because he didnt read it by heart and I suspect also that he didnt read a lot
more about Rizals work or his lifeor simply he got poor reading
comprehensionhehe, more likely! :)

His comments were much the same as those who oppose Rizalparticularly
those who advance neo-arms struggle to our current system of govt.

http://Inquirer.net/ AlzheimersC

Rizal is not a coward simply because he cant function as an effective military

leader because he got no military backgroundhes more adept in soliciting
support rather than bearing weapons and using them

Besides hes a very marked man in the eyes of the Spanish authorities and
that would hamper the revolution in respect to recruitment and planning of
secret attacks.

Because as I said the ground for revolution is very clear already and if Rizal
will actively participate or not it doesnt matter anymore.

I really admire Rizal, a very intelligent, intellectual scholar. Indeed a hero worthy of

Rizal studied and studied, took up so many courses, degrees, masteral abroad.

My question isDid Rizal ever work to recoup what has been spent on his education.

Jose Rizal, with all due respect to his wishes, is first and foremost, an Indio Puro or a
Filipino Puro.

A document was shown Jose Rizal to which he drew attention to the fact that he was
incorrectly described as a chinese mestizo, saying that he was an indio puro. This is
from a report by Austin Coates. He is someone acquainted with the family of the sister
of Jose Rizal- Narcisa. Austin Coates reported in 1960 in Rizal: Philippine Nationalist
and Martyr published by the Oxford University Press:

It was Rizal who established using the term indio as our badge of racial pride!we
shall become Indios Bravos! This is reported in 1997 by Asuncion Lopez-Rizal Bantug
with Sylvia Mendez Ventura in, Indio Bravo: The Story of Jose Rizal.

Rizal further declared: I do not agree. This is unjust! Here it says that I am a half-breed,
and it isnt true! I am a pure Filipino! This is reported by a filipino lawyer and diplomat
Leon Ma. Guerrero in First Filipino, which won the first prize in the 1961 Rizal biography
writing competition sponsored by the Jose Rizal National Centennial Commission.

As Jose Rizal wished, he is not a malay, nor a chinese, but an Indio Puro or a Filipino
Puro.

While going over pre-war magazines I saw a copy of the marriage certificate
of Bonifacios parents. It explains why Bonifacio is not in the vecindario of
naturales in Tondo. It reads in part:

D. Jose N. Jovellanos, secular priest of the Archbisopric of Manila, parish

priest of Tondo, Manila, Philippine Islands

Certifies that in Book 9 of Marriages on page 29 is a document that reads:

SANTIAGO BONIFACIO with CATALINA DE CASTRO.

On the 24th of January 1873 Saturnino Buntan, parish priest of Tondo

authorized the marriage contracted in Tondo between [Santiago Bonifacio]
the son of Vicente Bonifacio y de Alejandra Rosales and Catalina de Castro,

FACT remains that our warriors LAPU-LAPU & SULTAN KUDARAT were brave and
unbeatable during their time.thats why they are my top favorites..UNDEFEATED &
UNFLINCHING

LAPU-LAPU

Lapu-Lapu was the king of Mactan, an island in the Visayas, Philippines, who is known as
the first native of the archipelago to have resisted Spanish colonization. He is now
regarded as the first Filipino hero.
On the morning of April 27, 1521, Lapu-Lapu and the men of Mactan, armed with spears
and kampilan, faced Spanish soldiers led by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. In
what would later be known as the Battle of Mactan, Magellan and several of his men
were killed.

Spanish chronicler Antonio Pigafetta pointed out that Lapu-Lapu wielded a sword that is
used by blue bloods of the Moro group. The mention of the name of the sword in several
oral stories also proves the widespread existence and use of kampilan across the
archipelago at that time.

Magellans voyage chronicler Pigafetta reports that the Christian king Humabon sent a
message saying that if they return the bodies of Magellan and his crew, they would give
as much merchandise as they wished.

but Lapulapus immediate response was, We will not give away the captains body for all
the riches in the world, because his body is the trophy of our victory against invaders of
our shore

cebu local gullas said Lapu-Lapu is a good example of determination and willingness to
work well. He learned how to ride on a horseback and on carabao proficiently at the age
of six years; knew how to read and write at seven; boxed well at nine; became a
champion swimmer, boxer and wrestler at eighteen; beat the Bornean marauders and
pirates twice at twenty.

According to native legend, Lapu-Lapu never died but turned into stone, and has since
then been guarding the seas of Mactan. Fishermen in the island city would throw coins
at a stone shaped like a man as a way of asking for permission to fish in the chieftains
territory.

SULTAN KUDARAT

This great Muslim leader ruled over his Sultanate of Maguindanao (now Mindanao) in a

span of 52 years (1619-1671). His career as a ruler was considered one of the most
colorful in Philippine history.

Sultan of Maguindanao in the Philippines. During his reign, he successfully opposed the
Spaniards who attempted to conquer his land and hindered the Christianization of the
island of Mindanao.

Sultan Kudarats ascendancy, to his defeats by the Spaniards and rival Sultans, through
his eventual triumph over Spanish colonialism, by the uniting of virtually all of the
present-day Southern Philippines

BLOODY FIGHT.In the early part of the year 1637, Hurtado de Corcuera, Captain and
Governor General of the Philippines, led personally the combined Spanish Indio forces
and attacked the Muslim citadel at Lamitan near Lake Lanao. Sultan Kudarat with 2,000
native warriors met the enemy in what was considered as the bloodiest and one of the
biggest battles of his career. The Muslim leader and his warriors including women and
children, fought great vigor and bravery, many of them heroically dying in the struggle.
Kudarat sustained a bullet wound in one arm, fought his way through the Spanish lines
& escaped. His wife, clasping her baby at her breast, also ran through the Spanish lines,
jumped over a cliff and eluded capture.( kahimyang )
Sultan kudarat said to his people.. What have you done? Do you realize what
subjection would reduce you to? A toilsome slavery under the Spaniards! Turn your eyes
to the subject nations and look at the misery to which such glorious nations had been
reduced. Look at the Tagalogs and the Visayans! Do you think that the Spaniards would
consider you of better stuff? Have you not seen how the Spaniards have trampled them
under their feet? Do you not see how they are obliged to work at the oars and at the
factories everyday with all their might and rigors? Can you tolerate anyone with a little
Spanish blood to beat you up and grasp thefruits of your labor? A Hlow yourselves today
and tomorrow you will be at the oars. I, at least, will be a pilot, the biggest favor they will
allow in a ship. Do not let their sweet words deceive you. Their promisesfacilitate their
deceits, which, little by little, will enable them to control everything. Reflect on how they
dishonored even the minor promises they made to the heads of other nations until they
had become masters of them all. See now what is being done to these heads and how
they are being led by a rod!

In the Philippine Archipelago, there had never been a native dominion as powerful and
as extensive as that of Sultan Qudarat. No other native ruler had earned more love,
respect, awe, and fear from his subjects and hatred and animosity from his enemies, the
Spaniards, who nevertheless had on occasion grudgingly admired him. (Cesar Majul,

Somehow its understandable that these collaborators allowed our colonizer

especially the new one(Americans) to reign with little resistance because its a
hopeless battle anywayTheyll gonna lose the battle no matter what theyre going
to do(of course the enemies did some convincing themselves by showing their
military might to Aguinaldohe had witness it with his very own eyes perhaps
and might convince them also that they would be more different from the previous
one(Spain))

But what would be the most tyrannical result of that collaboration is that the
problem of wealth distibution of the countrys assets favoring the few(especially
the colonizers) was never broken but only change handsto the new FEW locals as
the reward for being accomplice to the American whims. They become the new
tyrant of the Filipino people as what Rizal correctly predicted in his writings.

2013 WHERE are we NOW!? That is the problem

Youre going to retake a territory with only a handful of men? Even how well
trained they are in military techniques its still mind boggling how they can
succeed? Even if we used the entire fighting force of our country, I still had a
healthy doubt about our chances especially if Malaysia chooses to keep that
territory?

Maybe we can negotiate that but it would take more than one representative
to close a favorable result perhaps a delegation that includes the President
himself and the whole Congress to back it up(if it will lead to war) and not
some blame game directed at Aquino aloneIt seems that it made to appear
that our countrys foreign policy is very immature or amateurish??

they were trained in batchesto be our advance forces.at that time we

were number two in military might in asia.unfortunately NINOY who is a
friend of malaysian leaders exposed marcos plan of RE-CLAIM..

countrys interest, fineI really believe that plot will only be loved by class B
movie producers

that was during marcos when our afp is a tigernow ICJ-UN is our best
alternative but pnoy govt will never allow that to happen bec malaysian
leaders are friends of ninoy.

im just wondering why until now ..they are not filing a claim for sabah in icj-
un maybe there must be incriminating records that malaysians holds
with their friends & local allies here?

http://Inquirer.net/ AlzheimersC

Maybe Pnoy has the same hesitation with Ramos, Erap and Gloria?

Because our historical claim of Sabah is best interpreted when it was read
side by side with stories of fictional or of mythical values :)

I agree with you Mr. Almario! No need to pit both against each other. Each has his role
and place in history! And there are others left unnamed and yet to be acknowledged!

Rizal is not a coward simply because he cant function as an effective military leader
because he got no military backgroundhes more adept in soliciting support rather
than bearing weapons and using them

Besides hes a very marked man in the eyes of the Spanish authorities and that would
hamper the revolution in respect to recruitment and planning of secret attacks.

And because as I said earlier, the ground for revolution is very clear already and if Rizal
will actively participate or not it doesnt matter anymore. If not for the Americans
meddling that battle against Spain will not be achieve in mere days only but it will
become a battle of attrition needing continued effort from the revolutionaries especially
if Spain will send reinforcements from their other colonies.

Their deaths are inevitableof Rizal and Bonifacio but the struggle must never cease
absolutely!

What about the Muslims that never bent knee to colonizers. Who defeated the Spanish
in many battles. How come PHL never honors them. Probably cause deep down Filipinos
know Muslims are not really Filipinos. Muslims are a people apart thats the truth. A
more disciplined people. Much more difficult to conquer. A people confronted with
