DATA ANALYSIS
Jessica McGrath
DATA COLLECTION PROCESS
The data was collected from several types of data sources
PSSA (external data source from PA State Assessment)
F&P, DSA, and Writing Prompt (internal data sources from classroom
teacher).
The PSSA scores contained
Overall Scores
Subtests
Other student-level information that could aide data collection is
demographic and background data
race/ethnicity,
English Proficiency,
socioeconomic status, or attendance.
DATA COLLECTION PROCESS, CONT.
How to make it more eective
Create an assessment calendar to organize each assessment administration
and data collection. This will also indicate who will be recording, collecting
and compiling data from each assessment.
Collect data more frequently, the more information you have to analyze
trends. Frequency of the assessments is also crucial to understanding the
data.
F&P assessments scores should indicate the dates of the assessments and
frequency (are they given multiple times per year?) Additional information
regarding whether the student was given a non-fiction or fiction text.
Because PSSAs are given yearly, having data regarding previous year
assessments from individual students would also help to create a clearer
picture of progress.

OTHER INFORMATION
I wanted to find a way to graphically show the conditional formatting of the
proficiency ranges. I experimented with dierent chart types in Excel and I
was able to manipulate the Combo Chart to show student levels compared
to the baseline student for teachers to find additional patterns and trends
