EXPERIMENT 03

AIM: To analyze the given inorganic salt and identify one acidic and one basic
radical.

APPARATUS: Test-tubes, test-tube holder, glass rod, passing-tube, filter paper,


burner etc.

REAGENTS: Common acids and bases, specific reagents, H2S gas, distilled water
etc.

PROCEDURE:

HNO3 and the solution divided into
two portions:
(1) One portion + NH4OH solution Deep blue color Cu2+ present
in excess.

(2) Second portion + acidified with Chocolate colored Cu2+ present


acetic acid + potassium ppt. obtained
ferrocyanide solution.

REUSULT: The given inorganic salt contained acetate (SO42-) as an acidic radical
and lead (Cu2+) as a basic radical.

01. Acidic radical:

02. Basic radical:

Cu2+ (aq) + H2S (g) CuS (s) + 2H+ (aq)
