General Information
Course Description
Civic Literacy and engagement is the knowledge of how to actively participate and
initiate change in your community and the greater society. It is the foundation by
which a democratic society functions. We will learn how to develop civic literacy
and engagement using research, specific writing techniques, and oral
communication, as well as through hands-on projects in the community.

Expectations and Goals
I expect students to come to class prepared to learn. This means:
1. Completing the necessary homework in order to participate in class discussions
and activities.
2. Bringing a positive attitude to class.
3. Respecting your fellow classmates, instructor and community partners.
4. Trying your best!
Communication
I will communicate with you regularly through classroom discussions, email, and
the Weebly website. I will regularly update the website blog with instructions,
assignments, and other crucial information. You will also communicate with
classmates, either face to face or online as you collaborate on projects, ask and
answerquestions within your peer group, and develop your speaking and listening
skills.
Assignments
Assignments will generally be completed and turned in digitally using Google Docs,
Presentations, etc.
Assignments will be turned in online via email
To receive credit for this course, you must obtain a grade of 70% or higher.

50% Assessments
25% Homework/Class work
25% 21st

Scale:
90 100% A
80 89.9% B
70 79.9% C
60 69.9% I (remediation is possible by teacher discretion)
Below 60% F (student does not receive credit and must retake the credit)
Late Work Policy
Late work will be graded down 10% of the total grade each day it is late.

other student expectations.
