Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala: born June 13, 1954, was a Finance Minister and Foreign Minister of Nigeria, notable for being the first woman
to hold either of those positions. She served as finance minister from July 2003 until her appointment as foreign minister in June
2006, and as foreign minister until her resignation in August 2006. Okonjo-Iweala was considered as a possible replacement for
former World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz. On October 4, 2007 she was appointed as Managing Director of the World Bank by World
Bank President Robert Zoellick.
Alhaji Umaru Abdul Mutallab (born December 15, 1939) is a Nigerian business and banking leader, and former minister of
Economic Development under the military government of Murtala Mohammed. Mutallab attended Barewa College, Zaria, Achimota
College, Accra, Ghana, and the South West London College, London. He was awarded an Honourary Doctorate Degree by the Obafemi
Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Mutallab was a Federal Commissioner (i.e., Minister) of Economic Development (1975) and of
Cooperatives and Supplies (1976). He was later a member of Nigeria's Federal Executive Council (197678). He left to serve as
Executive Vice Chairman, Managing Director, and CEO of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) (197888). He is the former Chairman of
Nigeria's oldest and largest bank, First Bank of Nigeria Plc (19992009). Mutallab has also served on the boards of directors of several
companies, including Arewa Textile Limited, NEPA, NACB, NCC, Nigeria Agip Oil, and Cement Company of Nigeria, and in 2009 was
Chairman of several companies, including Impresit Bakolori Plc, Incar Nigeria Plc, and Spring Waters Nigeria Limited (SWAN). He is
chairman of the Nigeria's first Islamic bank, Jaiz Bank International Plc, which was established in 2003. He is a Fellow of both the
Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA). Mutallab was
awarded the title of Commander of the Order of the Niger for services to the country, one of Nigerias highest accolades, as well as
Italian Commander of the Order of Merit.
Augustus Akhabue Aikhomu (20 October 1939 17 August 2011) was an Admiral in the Nigerian Navy, who served as the de facto
Vice President of Nigeria during the Ibrahim Babangida-led military junta from 1986 to 1993. He hailed from Idumebo-Irrua, Edo
State, in southern Nigeria. As a student, Aikhomu spent various periods of his early life studying at Irrua Government School, Yaba
College of Technology, Royal Britannia Naval College in Dartmouth, England, Long Gunnery Specilist Course, India and National
Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Nigeria. Aikhomu is survived by his wife, Rebecca, and six children.
Aikhomu in his later years was a key player in the politics of Nigeria. He was at a time the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of All
Nigeria Peoples Party, an opposition party in the country. As a nation builder, Aikhomu in the various tributes by his associates was
described as a national hero, a dependable ally, an uncommon statesman, a great naval officer, a highly disciplined gentleman and a
respected mentor to most of his subordinate officers during the Babangida Administration. Aikhomu left his footprints in his native
town of Irrua, where he bequeated many developmental projects to his name, especially the Irrua Specialist Hospital, the referral
hospital for lassa fever in the country.
Air Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin was born on 19 January 1955 at Ipetu-Ijesa in Ori-Ade Local Government Area of Osun State and
enlisted into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in 1974. Air Marshal Petinrin has held several appointments such as Officer
Commanding B Squadron in Air Defence Group Maiduguri, Operations Officer of NAF Station Maiduguri, DS AFCSC, Military Assistant
to CAS HQ NAF, S01 Operations HQ Training Command Kaduna, Group Operations Officer 99 Air Weapons School (AWS) Kainji and
later Commander 99 AWS Kainji. He was the Director of Evaluation (DOEVAL) HQ NAF before his posting to the NDC as a DS. He
became the Director, National Military Strategy at the NDC, From the NDC, Senior Air Staff Officer Tactical Air Command Makurdi,
Director Electronic Warfare Defence Headquarters, Air Offficer Commanding Training Command, Chief of the Air Staff . and also held
the post of chief of defence staff.
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu (born 1933) was a Nigerian general and politician. He announced the establishment of Biafra,
a secessionist state in southeastern Nigeria, an event that sparked the Nigerian Civil War.He attended King's College Lagos, Epsom
College, in Surrey and Lincoln College, Oxford University.He joined the army In 1957 as one of the first and few university graduates
then. After serving in the United Nations peacekeeping force in the Congo, under Major General Johnson Thomas Aguiyi-Ironsi,
Ojuwkwu was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel in 1964 and posted to Kano, where he was in charge of the 5th Battalion of the
Nigerian Army.When General Aguiyi-Ironsi took over the leadership of the country on Monday, 17 January 1966, he appointed Lt. Col.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Military Governor of Eastern Region. On 30 May 1967, Colonel Odumegwu-Ojukwu declared Eastern Nigeria a
sovereign state to be known as BIAFRA. Most European states recognised the illegitimacy of the Nigerian military rule and banned all
future supplies of arms, but the UK government substantially increased its supplies, even sending British Army and Royal Air Force
advisors. After three years of non-stop fighting and starvation,he left for Cte d'Ivoire, where President Felix Houphet-Biognywho
had recognized Biafra on 14 May 1968granted him political asylum. After 13 years in exile, the Federal Government of Nigeria under
President Shehu Aliyu Usman Shagari granted an official pardon to Odumegwu-Ojukwu and opened the road for a triumphant return
in 1982. The people of Nnewi gave him the now very famous chieftaincy title of Ikemba (Power of the people), while the entire Igbo
nation took to calling him Dikedioramma (or beloved hero). He continued in politics when activity revived briefly in the early 1990s,
and after the full return to civil rule in 1999 helped form the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), for which he ran as presidential
