Position purpose
The primary responsibility of the Multimedia Support Officer is to support individual staff and teams in
designing and producing best practice blended and online learning resources. The role provides at the elbow
support and training to teaching staff, assisting them to plan and produce video resources using the
microstudio, mobile video, webcam, screen capture and basic editing software.
The Multimedia Support Officer consults with staff on the best methods for producing other multimedia
learning resources such as diagrams, presentations and basic audio production, linking them to appropriate
help resources. This role assists staff in choosing the most appropriate and equitable delivery method for
learning resources in Moodle. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the initiatives of the Educational
Designers for unit enhancement and the uplift of learning and teaching in the faculty.
Reporting line: The position reports to the Senior Educational Designer under general direction

Financial delegation and/or budget responsibilities: Not applicable

Key responsibilities
1. Provide support and training to teaching staff to achieve high quality enhanced learning resources and
the best student experience
2. Support academic staff in the production of effective multimedia resources for teaching including video,
audio, narrated presentations, images and diagrams
3. Consult with staff on appropriate ways to deliver these resources to students, including training staff on
uploading resources to Moodle, YouTube, Alexandria or other similar/future systems

4. Work on an appointment basis with staff to assist with setting up lighting, camera, audio and
teleprompter equipment for microstudio productions
5. Manage bookings and lending of multimedia equipment to staff to ensure effective use of time and
assets
6. As a recognised specialist, train staff and provide hands on support in using Camtasia for desktop video
and presentation recording, editing and screen capture
7. Assist the Engineering Educational Designers in the production of training resources and workshops for
Faculty of Engineering teaching staff on techniques and technology for producing blended and online
learning resources
8. Work closely with the Online Learning Systems Coordinator to ensure advice to staff on the best use of
University online resources is timely and accurate manner whilst developing and implementing
continuous improvement activities relating to learning systems

Key selection criteria


Education/Qualifications
1. The appointee will have:
a relevant degree with subsequent relevant experience, or
an equivalent combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience

Knowledge and Skills


2. Experience in designing learning resources and activities for blended and online learning
3. Demonstrated multimedia production skills including video in studio based and mobile environments
4. Experience in delivering effective and engaging training for staff
5. Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to work
as part of a team and independently
6. Strong familiarity with established and developing educational software including Moodle, YouTube and
Camtasia or similar screen capture and editing software
