VIBRATOR ROTATION

Check vibrator shaft rotation after all electrical

connections have been made. Operating the
vibrators in the wrong direction will result in very
poor material conveyance on the screens and will
cause structural damage to basket.
To check rotation, shut off and lock out power. With
vibrators stopped, remove hardware and then
remove counter weight end covers of each vibrator.
Once covers are removed, pulse-start vibrators to
verify correct rotation. Use extreme caution during
this procedure so that the counter weights do not
cause personal injury.
The two main vibrators on the two and three
vibrator version must operate in opposite
directions, one clockwise and one counterclockwise
as shown in Figure 2-4. The smaller third
vibrator must rotate clockwise when viewed from
the side of the unit with discharge end pointing to
the left.
If rotation problems are observed, switch any two of
the three leads to a vibrator to reverse the rotation.
After correct vibrator rotation is accomplished,
replace hardware and counter weight end covers.
Retighten all end cover bolts.

WARNING
Maximum allowable weight setting is
85%. Do not exceed 85% force
setting or can void SWECO warranty
and also cause severe property
damage.
ECCENTRICWEIGHTS
All vibrators have one set of eccentric weights
located on each end of the shaft. These counter
weights are set at the factory with identical weight
settings of 50% but maximum allowable weight
setting is 85%. An unequal setting of these weights
will generate tremendous transverse forces that can
cause damage to the equipment. Contact SWECO
for use of inverters to ensure proper conditions are
obtained. Refer to Figures 5-37 and 5-38 for Martin
vibrator force information.
NOTE: For information regarding OLI
vibrators, refer to OLI vibrator manual and
technical data sheets following unit manual.

WARNING
Do not run vibrators with one or
more attachment bolts missing or
not torqued properly. If a vibrator
bolt is missing, the separator must
immediately be shut down and new
bolts installed and torqued
appropriately. Torque the M20 large
size vibrator bolts to 320 foot
pounds (434 Nm) and the M16
smaller size vibrator bolts to 210 foot
pounds (285 Nm). Failure to follow
this procedure can result in the
vibrators coming off and causing
extensive damage.
WARNING
Vibrators MUST be mounted with
the Grade 10.9 nuts and bolts, and
special washers. Failure to comply
will void SWECO warranty and also
cause severe property damage.
VIBRATOR/MOTOR BOLTS
Both large size vibrators are secured to the
separator with M20, Grade 10.9 (Grade 8 equivalent)
nuts and bolts, and special washers. The third
smaller vibrator (optional) is secured to the separator
with M16, Grade 10.9 nuts and bolts, and special
washers. These bolts have been torqued at the
factory and tested to precise specifications. It is
recommended that these bolts be checked and retorqued
after installation of unit and after 4 to 8
hours of operation. It is necessary to use a torque
wrench and apply proper torque. Also, they should
be examined every time the screens are replaced.
Using a torque wrench, torque the large size vibrator
bolts (M20) to 320 foot pounds (434 Nm). If
applicable, torque the smaller size vibrator bolts
(M16) to 210 foot pounds (285 Nm).
When a vibrator is replaced, or bolts have been
removed, replace with new bolts or damage to
vibrator can occur. Use only SWECO recommended
special washers and Grade 10.9 hardware or
damage to vibrators can result.

WARNING
When installing or maintaining this
separator, shut off and lock out
power before removing guards.
Failure to comply could result in
severe personal injury or property
damage. Follow all local and
national electrical codes.
CAUTION
Screens are fragile. Handle them
carefully. Never place tools or
parts on the screen. As screen life
is dependent on a wide variety of
issues like mesh size, flow rate,
material properties, vibration level,
maintenance, etc., we cannot
guarantee how long a screen will
last. Screens should be frequently
inspected to check for wear or
damage. Note that if screens
continue to vibrate for hours after
initial failure (tearing), wire
segments may break loose from
the mesh and fall into the
screened product.
SCREEN INSTALLATION
The multi-motion separator is designed for pretensioned
screens with wedge mounting. There are
four pre-tensioned screens and eight wedges, four per
side of the rectangular separator. The screens are
placed on the screen bed and the wedges are driven
between each screen edge and support bars on the
basket side walls. The screen bed is slightly crowned
at the center causing the screen frames to bow when
the wedges are forced in place. This prevents the
screens from whipping up and down during
operation.
Normally the screens are shipped loose and are not
installed in the unit. The screens should be installed
after all other installation requirements and electrical
hook-ups have been accomplished. Screen installation
requires little time and effort. However, if you do not
follow these basic steps, the results can be poor
screen life and solids by-passing into the active
system.
Screen panels should be installed one at a time. The
following instructions apply to a single screen panel
and must be repeated for each additional panel.
1. Each pre-tensioned screen is secured in place by
two wedges, one per side. A hammer is required to
remove all wedges before installing screens. The
wedges can be removed by a hammer blow to the
end or to the top handle section.
2. With cloth surface up and holding outer edges of
screen, from the discharge end, lay first screen
into screen slot of basket deck. Center screen onto
deck and butt screen edge to the back of screen
deck.
3. Once in correct position, place one wedge
between screen edge and support bar on basket
side wall. Next position other wedge on opposite
side in the same manner and hammer tight. Both
wedges are to be in proper position prior to
hammering tight. Failure to do so will prevent the
second wedge from being started. Carefully
hammer both wedges to lock into place and be
cautious not to damage screen during process.
4. Follow same instructions to install remaining three
screens.
5. Water down new screens before operation.

CAUTION
Keep hands clear from high
pressure spray and do not
exceed recommended water/air
pressure. Failure to comply can
cause personal injury.
SPRAY SYSTEM (OPTIONAL)
It is essential that the screens be kept clean for the
separator to operate properly. A water spray system is
available upon request to prevent the screens from
becoming dirty or blinded (material wedged between the
screen wires). It also assists to keep the material flowing
and to prevent material from sticking to the screen. It is
designed to provide nearly 100% coverage of the entire
screen surface.
For hook-up or maintaining, shut off and lock out power.
Follow all local and national electrical codes. For spray
system, connect water inlets (supplied by customer) to
the end of the manifold.
Make sure that any parts of the spray system do not
touch the vibrating screens or machine to prevent wear
or damage to parts, screen, or machine.
The spray system requires little maintenance.
Periodically inspect all parts to ensure they are properly
tightened. Also inspect all hoses for wear or leaks. If
worn or deteriorated, replace hoses with new ones.
Occasionally inspect spray nozzles to make certain they
are not plugged and clean as needed and replace if
damaged or severely worn.

CHAPTER 3
Operation
WARNING
When installing or maintaining this
separator, shut off and lock out
power before removing guards.
Failure to comply could result in
severe personal injury or property
damage. Follow all local and
national electrical codes.
WARNING
Check noise level in your
environment. If noise level exceeds
70dB, hearing protection is required
to avoid impairment or loss of
hearing.
WARNING
Higher amplitudes occur during shut
down and start-up of unit. Stand
clear of unit and keep accessory
equipment away during these
cycles.
WARNING
Do not start and stop your
separator more than four times an
hour on a continuous basis.
Frequent starting can cause heat
build-up which will damage the
vibrator. Contact your SWECO
representative if your process
requires frequent starting and
stopping.
After all instructions have been followed for the
installation of your separator, all electrical hook-ups
have been made, and screens have been installed,
read the following sections to begin operation of your
separator. Read all instructions prior to operating this
machine. Improper installation, maintenance, or
operation may cause injury to personnel or machine
failure. This equipment must be installed, operated,
and maintained by qualified personnel.
START-UP
Start machine before introducing product feed. Open
feed line slowly, increasing flow until product covers
2/3 of the screen length. Vibration should be smooth.
If periodic jerking is noticed, ensure that the screen
deck is not touching anything and the shipping
brackets are properly positioned per Chapter 2,
section Installation.
It is not recommended to operate the unit with the
third vibrator not running for an extended period due
to an uneven loading against the bearings caused by
non-rotating counter weights.
SHUT DOWN
Before shut down or stopping the unit, shut off
product flow and clean the screens.

START-UP/SHUT DOWN W/CONTROL PANEL
If your unit is supplied with a control panel, the two
motor version control panel has one (1) control switch,
one (1) start/stop button and one (1) reset button. The
reset buttons can be used to reset the motor starters if
they trip. The controls have a built-in safety feature to
shut down the other motor should one motor fail to
operate.
The three motor version has an additional special
feature controlling the operation of the third motor. The
control panel has a separate on/off switch and a reset
button for the third motor. The three motor version can
be operated in an elliptical or linear or elliptical/linear
motion. In order to stop the third motor while the unit is
in operation, a breakingfunction is required to stop the
motor otherwise the motion of the separator would keep
running even without power. It is not recommended to
operate the separator with the third motor not running
for an extended period due to an uneven loading
against the bearings caused by non-rotating counter
weights.
It is essential that the cover be properly tightened at all
times with all the bolts. This prevents liquids from
entering the starter and corroding internal components,
and maintains the integrity of the hazardous location
rating. The cover should be inspected for damage and
checked for loose or missing bolts at every screen
change.

NORMAL OPERATION
When the multi-motion separator is running under
normal conditions, there are a number of parameters
that can be considered or adjusted to optimize
performance:
1. Screen Selection
2. Flow Rate
3. Deck (Basket) Angle
4. Vibration Amplitude
SCREEN SELECTION
The selection of the screen mesh will depend on a
number of factors, namely flow rate, wet or dry material,
material size, moisture content, percentage of solids
present, and rate of penetration (ROP).
To ensure optimum performance, the finest screen size
possible should be used with consideration given to the
relative screen life. For the multi-motion separator mesh
sizes 8-170 are recommended. Consult SWECO for part
numbers of the wide variety of meshes available.
FLOW RATE
The flow rate should be adjusted so that screen flooding
does not occur. The pipe size of the inlet controls the
flow rate. The inlet pipe diameter at the feeder box is
customized to your flow rate requirements and diameter
per customers request. Consult SWECO for other
options.
